Unions allege exploitation of contractual sanitation workers at RMH
Pune: Many labour unions, including Janhit Kamgar Sanghatana (Maharashtra State) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Labour Front, Pune, have raised allegations about ongoing exploitation of contractual sanitation workers at the Regional Mental Hospital (RMH), Yerawada. The unions have complained to Maharashtra health minister Prakash Abitkar seeking action on unjust treatment and financial exploitation of workers.
According to the unions, contractors have violated the Minimum Wages Act of 1947, depriving workers of their earnings. Despite monthly bills of approximately ₹14.2 lakh cleared in favour of contractors, the sanitation staff continue to receive less than minimum wage.
Statement released from unions state that contractor B.S.A. Corporation Ltd allegedly underpaid workers between October 2024 and February 2025, offering just ₹8,000 per month, much below the government's prescribed minimum wage of ₹15,000 and February 2025 salary is unpaid. Another contractor, Lokarajya Self-Employment Cooperative Service Society, is accused of withholding fair wages since 2017. The contractor is also accused of submitting falsified documents with forged worker signatures, claiming cash payments in violation of contractual norms. The unions demand a criminal case be filed for defrauding the health department and have submitted evidence. As per the unions, for several years, contractors have reportedly deducted employees' Provident Fund contributions without transferring them to the authorities. Similarly, although contributions were deducted from workers' wages, they were not issued E-Pehchan (identity) cards under the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). This forced many workers and their families to pay out-of-pocket for healthcare expenses, claimed protestors.
Sanjay Kone, secretary, Janhit Kamgar Sanghatana, said, 'We do not wish to cause inconvenience to patients or disrupt mental health services. Our demands are constitutional. If corrective action is not taken immediately, we will be left with no choice but to stop work.'
Dr Shrinivas Kolod, medical superintendent, RMH, said, 'We have received a copy of the complaint letter of the workers' union. The issue has been escalated to director of health services office for guidance and action.'

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and former Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Monday appeared before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in the Formula E race case. Rama Rao reached the ACB office in Banjara Hills amid tight security for the second round of questioning in the case. Police made elaborate security arrangements around the ACB office to prevent any gathering of BRS workers. Speaking to the media before leaving for the ACB office, the BRS leader said he would not be scared even if he had to go to jail again. KTR, as Rama Rao is popularly known, said cases registered against him and the harassment in the name of notices would not deter him from questioning the Congress government. The former minister stated that he respects the law and judiciary and that truth will ultimately prevail. 'They have so far summoned me thrice. Even if they call me 30 times, I will appear,' he said. KTR slammed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, saying he drew sadistic pleasure by making BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and former Minister T. Harish Rao appear before the Kaleshwaram Commission. 'Today, I have been summoned. They may arrest me. I went to jail in the past for the sake of Telangana. I am not scared if I have to go to jail once again. Not once, I am ready to go to jail 100 times,' he said. KTR said the Chief Minister has no courage to touch KCR's army of lakhs of cadres. He reiterated that the Chief Minister should come forward to undergo a lie detector test. 'We both have ACB cases against us. I am ready for a lie-detector test, are you ready?' he asked. Claiming that the Formula-E race boosted the image of Telangana, he alleged that the actions of the Revanth Reddy government were maligning the state. The BRS leader earlier visited the party headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, where a large number of party workers gathered to show solidarity with him. The ACB had earlier given notice to KTR to appear on May 28. The BRS leader, however, informed the agency that as he planned to leave for a foreign tour, he would appear before them after he returned. The former minister had appeared before the ACB on January 9 in the case relating to the conduct of the Formula E race in Hyderabad in January 2023, when the BRS was in power. The ACB in December last year booked a case against KTR, former Special Chief Secretary to the government, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department, Arvind Kumar and former Chief Engineer of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) B.L.N. Reddy for alleged Rs 54.88 crore irregularities in the Formula-E deal. The FIR was registered on a complaint by the Principal Secretary to the government, MA&UD department, M. Dana Kishore, who stated that foreign remittances were made without prior approvals of the relevant regulatory authorities, which resulted in an additional tax burden to HMDA to the tune of Rs 8.06 crore. The complainant also alleged that the payment was made while the Model Code of Conduct was in effect for the elections to the State Legislative Assembly without any prior approval of the Election Commission of India. The FIR was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act as well as under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).

KTR appears before ACB in Formula-E Race case
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao appeared before Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Hyderabad on Monday (June 16, 2025) morning in connection with the alleged financial irregularities in the Formula-E race deal. An FIR was registered against Mr. Rama Rao, former IT and Industries Minister on December 19, 2024, in relation to suspected irregularities in the planning and execution of the Formula-E event held in February 2023. The ACB is probing a payment of ₹54 crore, which included ₹8 crore in taxes, made to the event organisers. Allegations suggest the transaction was executed without Cabinet approval. KTR appeared before the ACB on January 9. Later, he was asked to present himself on May 28, following notices served on May 26. However, the appearance was deferred owing to his overseas travel plans. The former Minister alleged that the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is mulling to get him arrested in the case. KTR said that the cases would not stop him from questioning on behalf of people.

KTR appears before ACB again in Formula-E Racing fund misuse case
Hyderabad, June 16 (UNI) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K T Rama Rao (KTR) appeared before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday in connection with the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities related to the Formula-E car racing event. The hearing began at 1000 hours at the ACB office in Banjara Hills. KTR arrived at Telangana Bhavan by 0900 hours and later proceeded to the ACB office accompanied by his legal counsel, Ramachandra Rao. The ACB had issued a summons to him on June 13. This marks KTR's second appearance before the ACB in the case. He was previously questioned for nearly six and a half hours on January 9. The case pertains to the alleged misappropriation of government funds during the BRS regime to support the Formula-E race in Hyderabad. Posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, KTR said, 'I have been summoned by the ACB to appear for investigation on Monday at 1000 hours in the Formula-E race case, where Rs 44 crore was transferred from bank to bank, and the money is very much in the account of FE. As a law-abiding citizen, I will attend and fully cooperate with the ACB officials.' According to the FIR filed by the ACB, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) allegedly transferred funds amounting to Rs 44 crore to London-based Formula E Operations (FEO) in violation of established procedures. The payment was reportedly made as the state's share for sponsoring the second edition of the Formula-E race in Hyderabad. While the first edition in early 2023 was sponsored by the private firm Ace Nxt Gen, the company is said to have declined to support the second edition. Subsequently, KTR, who was then Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), allegedly directed senior officials to ensure that HMDA covered the costs. ACB officials claim that this was done without following due process. The ACB has already questioned several key individuals, including former MAUD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar, and representatives from Ace Nxt Gen and FEO. Meanwhile, the BRS has strongly criticised the investigation, calling it politically motivated. Party leaders have demanded a fair and transparent probe, alleging that the case is being used as a tool for a political vendetta. Through a post on the social media platform X, KTR expressed strong displeasure against the Congress government. He stated that the ongoing enquiries, commissions, and what he described as political harassment by the Congress party would not deter them. KTR affirmed that these actions would not stop the BRS from exposing the government's alleged failure in implementing the promised six guarantees. He further accused the Congress of deceiving the public with what he termed "420 promises and declarations," and asserted that no matter how many conspiracies are hatched, they will not succeed in silencing the BRS.
