A member of Tom Izzo's staff at Michigan State has landed a gig elsewhere, heading to the Lone Star state to take a role as an assistant coach.
University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) head men's basketball coach Khalil Fennellannounced the hiring of Michael Provenzano. Provenzano had been a graduate assistant coach with Michigan State over the last two seasons. While assisting with recruiting, during his time in East Lansing, Provenzano assisted in player personnel scouting reports and on-court individual and group skill development workouts with a focus on the post players.
In his playing days, Provenzano was a standout at Simon Fraser University before spending a few years overseas playing professional basketball.
Prior to joining Michigan State, where he obtained his masters degree, Provenzano spent two years with the London Basketball Academy and two seasons as the associate head coach with the London Lightning of the National Basketball League of Canada.
Provenzano will now embark on his collegiate coaching journey, parlaying his graduate assistantship at MSU into an assistant coaching position with UTRGV, a division one mid major that is a member of the Southland Conference.

Falcons rookie RB Nathan Carter makes depth chart statement, shares Morice Norris injury update

Falcons rookie RB Nathan Carter makes depth chart statement, shares Morice Norris injury update originally appeared on The Sporting News Nathan Carter found himself in a spot no one would want to be in the first week of the preseason. It was his knee that had inadvertently left Lions defensive back Morice Norris Jr. on the ground with a scary injury. The Atlanta Falcons rookie RB out of Michigan State was able to touch base with Norris on Instagram this week. Carter shared with reporters Friday night, "I'm glad that he's alright. I'm glad the Lord answered our prayers." And with that sense of relief, Carter ran wild in his second preseason game. The rookie took nine carries for a total of 63 yards and a touchdown. Next Gen Stats clocked Carter reaching 20.70 miles per hour on the run. MORE: Rams' Jimmy Garoppolo decision tells us everything about Matthew Stafford's injury Carter has worked hard to make it to this point, and now he's competing for a roster spot. The Falcons have established RBs Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, but beyond them, there's a shot. The muscular Carter grew up in Rochester, N.Y. and attended Bishop Kearney High School before heading to UConn to begin his college football career. He was stellar for the Huskies, enough so to earn the transfer spot in the Big Ten. With the Spartans, Carter split the workload, so he had to make due with a smattering of opportunities. Now, he's trying to turn all that growth into an NFL opportunity. The Falcons signed Carter as an undrafted player soon after April's NFL Draft ended, showing they had genuine interest from the start. He had limited action before that first preseason game was ended early, but in his second chance, Carter seized the moment. There's one more preseason game to go, along with some key practices along the way, for Carter to keep showing he belongs. Former Spartans star signs with Polish basketball club

A pair of former Spartans are linking up in Poland. Former Spartans big man Kenny Goins has reportedly signed with the Polish club Trefl Sopot. According to 247Sports' reporter Stephen Brooks, Goins will be joining the same club as former Spartans big man Szymon Zapala. Goins played for the Spartans from 2015 to 2019, where he played a big part in the Spartans winning a pair of Big Ten titles and reaching the Final Four in 2019. It was his shot against Duke in the Elite Eight that propelled the Spartans to the Final Four that season. Since leaving Michigan State, Goins has primarily played in Europe. According to Basketball Reference, Goins has played a pair of seasons in the Greek Basketball League and one year in the France LNB Pro A. He will now be heading to Poland and play alongside a fellow former Spartan.
