BHUBANESWAR: After what has been a long and gruelling season, Animesh Kujur got pushed and then pushed himself to deliver in front of a packed stadium to win the 200m title ahead of South Korea's KO Seunghwan in a close race at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level meet at Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday.

The South Korean, who has a personal best of 20.45 seconds, kept pushing Kujur throughout the race but India's national record holder in 100 and 200m prevailed in 20.77 seconds. Seunghwan came second in 20.95 seconds while Ragul Kumar finished third in 21.17 seconds.
Asked how he managed to finally win it, Kujur said, 'My coach always tells me to maintain my form in the final stretch.
It is the last 50m where most athletes lose their form. However, I was able to hold it as the coach said and win it.'
Poll
Do you think Animesh Kujur can break his personal best soon?
Yes, definitely
Maybe, if he stays healthy
No, he might struggle
While he did claim the title, the timing was nowhere close to PB of 20.32 seconds. He did sound a tad disappointed but now his focus is on giving his best at the Worlds for which he will qualify on the back of the ranking points.
Moreover, what might have hindered his performance on the night is the fact that he caught a mild cold after coming back from Europe.

Hopefully, he will be able to take care of it ahead of the Inter-state meet where he will have to perform in similar weather conditions.
He however did enjoy competing in front of the huge crowd but did feel some pressure too.
'I didn't exert too much during the heats because I was just aiming to qualify. However, I was under a bit of pressure to perform in the final in front of such a big crowd and in my home track,' said Kujur, who did start the 100m heats in the morning but did not finish.
Meanwhile,
Murali Sreeshankar
saved his best for the last as he won the long jump title with a final leap of 8.13m, which was his season's best. As a result, Shahnavaz Khan was left heartbroken after he had managed to take the lead following his fourth jump of 8.04m, which was also his PB. Lokesh Sathyanathan meanwhile came third with a leap of 7.85m.
Among the other big names who won as expected in the men's section were Mohammad Afsal in men's 800m with a time of 1:46.60 and Abdulla Aboobacker, who grabbed the men's triple jump title with a leap of 16.53m.
Among the women, Shaili Singh won the long jump with an effort of 6.28m,
Annu Rani
took the javelin title with a throw of 62.01m and Abinaya Rajarajan grabbed the top spot in 100m in 11.57 seconds.
However, the big surprise was Sachin Yadav's failure in the men's javelin as failed to cross the 80m-mark. 22-year-old Rumesh Tharanga from Sri Lanka walked away with the honour with a throw of 86.50m. It wasn't only his PB but he also bettered the World Athletics automatic qualification mark of 85.50m.
India's Shivam Lohakare finished second with 80.73m while Sumedha Ranasinghe, also from Sri Lanka, settled for third spot with 80.65m.
As expected, Malaysia's Muhd Azeem Fahmi won the men's 100m title in 10.35s. But the other shock came in the very end as India's 4x400m relay team was beaten by a young Sri Lankan quartet in a photo finish.
Ramraj twins disappoint:
It wasn't a great outing for the Ramraj twins as Vithya was disqualified from the 400m event after a false start while her sister Nithya competing in the 100m hurdles crashed with the third-last hurdle and failed to finish the race. At that moment, she was leading the race, but the crash left her reeling in pain on the track. Vithya confirmed that her sister had a fracture on the left leg as the duo left for the hospital with their coach Nehpal Singh to get an MRI scan.

World's first humanoid robot games: China plays host; from football fumbles to racing mishaps, what is inside

A human operator tries to keep up with a robot in the 1500m event for the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, China, Friday, Aug. 15, 2025. (AP Photo/Ng Han Guan) The world's inaugural humanoid robot games commenced Friday in Beijing, featuring over 500 androids competing in events ranging from the 100-metre hurdles to kung fu. Hundreds of robotics teams from 16 countries vied for gold at the Chinese capital's National Speed Skating Oval, constructed for the 2022 Winter Olympics. The games encompassed traditional sports such as athletics and basketball, alongside practical tasks including medicine categorisation and cleaning. "I believe in the next 10 years or so, robots will be basically at the same level as humans," enthusiastic 18-year-old spectator Chen Ruiyuan told AFP. Human athletes may not be intimidated at this stage. During one of the initial events on Friday morning, five-aside football saw ten robots the size of seven-year-olds maneuver around the pitch, frequently becoming entangled in scrums or toppling over en masse. However, in a 1500-metre race, domestic champion Unitree's humanoids maintained an impressive pace, easily surpassing their competitors. The fastest robot AFP observed completed the race in 6:29:37, considerably slower than the human men's world record of 3:26:00. In one incident, a mechanical racer crashed into a human operator. The robot remained upright, while the human was knocked to the ground but did not appear to be injured. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Best SIP Plans for NRIs in Montenegro – Get ₹2L Monthly Pension | Invest ₹18K PB Learn More Undo National strategy Robot competitions have been held for decades, but the 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games marks the first to concentrate specifically on robots that resemble human bodies, organisers stated. The Chinese govt has invested heavily in robotics with the aim of leading the industry. Beijing has placed humanoids at the "centre of their national strategy," the International Federation of Robotics stated in a paper on Thursday. "The govt wants to showcase its competence and global competitiveness in this field of technology," it added. Authorities are endeavouring to raise awareness of the sector across society. Cui Han, accompanying her 10-year-old son, told AFP that her son's school had organised and funded the trip to the Games. "I hope it will encourage him to learn more about these new technologies," she said. In March, China announced plans for a one-trillion-yuan (approx Rs 1,22,000 crore) fund to support technology startups, including those in robotics and AI. The country is already the world's largest market for industrial robots, official statistics indicate, and in April, Beijing held what organisers described as the world's first humanoid robot half-marathon.

Tim David of Australia bats during the T20 international cricket match between Australia and South Africa (Jono Searle/AAPImage via AP) Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns will host the high-stakes decider on Saturday as Australia and South Africa head into the 3rd T20I locked at 1-1. After Australia's dominant win in the opener, the Proteas roared back in style in Darwin, inspired by a record-breaking innings from Dewald Brevis. The 22-year-old smashed an unbeaten 125 off just 56 balls – the highest individual T20I score by a South African – to set up a convincing 53-run win in the second match. Brevis's blistering knock, featuring 12 fours and eight sixes, rescued his side from a shaky 57 for three and propelled them to 218 for seven. Tristan Stubbs chipped in with 31, while the Proteas' bowlers, led by teenage pacer Kwena Maphaka (3/57), dismantled Australia for 165 in 17.4 overs. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. Tim David's 50 kept them in the chase, but regular wickets derailed momentum. Glenn Maxwell impressed early with the ball, removing South African captain Aiden Markram and Lhuan-dre Pretorius, but his batting dismissal in the middle overs proved a turning point. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Egypt Solar Panels: See How Much It Will Cost To Install Them (See Prices) Solar Panel | Search Ads Learn More Undo Heading into the decider, both sides have plenty to play for. Australia will rely on the experience of captain Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, and Josh Hazlewood, along with the firepower of David and Maxwell, to reclaim control. South Africa, buoyed by Brevis's heroics, will look to Markram's leadership and the pace threat of Rabada, Ngidi, and the young Maphaka to seal a rare T20I series win on Australian soil. The tropical Cairns conditions could make batting trickier than in Darwin, putting a premium on disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. With the series in the balance, expect a fierce contest where one individual performance could once again decide the outcome.
