Phoebe Burgess breaks silence after her NRL star ex-husband Sam announced he is expecting second child with new wife Lucy

Sky News AU30-04-2025

Phoebe Burgess has broken her silence after her ex-husband announced he is expecting his second child with his new wife of six months Lucy.
Former South Sydney Rabbitohs star Sam Burgess, 36, and Lucy, 33, took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce the happy news through photos of the NRL WAG cradling her baby bump on a dreamy balcony in Capri, Italy.
The rugby league coach for England's Warrington Wolves was previously married to Phoebe, an Australian journalist, from 2015 through 2019.
However, the pair endured an acrimonious split, with Sam admitting to cheating on Phoebe while they were married during a reality TV appearance on SAS Australia.
They share two children, Poppy, eight, and Billy, six, who are the half-siblings of the NRL star and Lucy's one-year-old daughter Robbie.
On Wednesday, Phoebe took to Instagram Stories to share a sweet photo of Billy in his school uniform on the first day of the new school year.
"New term, new vibe, my little man," she wrote.
The 36-year-old later posted a glamorous video of herself shopping with her mother at Crown Sydney in the harbour city's suburb of Barangaroo.
The mother-daughter duo were out for an early Mother's Day celebration and donned sheike outfits as they embraced with a hug.
After his split from Phoebe, Sam proposed to Lucy in June 2023 nine months after they went public with their relationship.
The couple welcomed Robbie the following September and tied the knot through a lavish ceremony in Rome, Italy last October.
Sam and Lucy said their vows at the historic 17th-century Villa Aurelia perched on Janiculum Hill, overlooking stunning views and landscaped gardens.
Photos of their special day showed the mother-of-two to be in a champagne gown and veil while her husband donned a dapper suit and bow tie.
Robbie joined her parents at their nuptials and was seen wearing a dress which matched Lucy's during a celebratory napkin wave.
The family settled in Cheshire, England.
A source close to Burgess revealed the former Rabbitoh was smitten with Lucy, and she closely aligned with his plans to grow his family.
'It's been a whirlwind, but she is a fantastic woman. They get along so well. All of his friends are so happy to see how happy he makes her,' the source told the Daily Mail.
'The Burgess' are very family-oriented, and I think there was always a plan to start a family.
"From what I hear, she is genuinely good for him. When they're together, apparently, they laugh all the time - she cracks him up."

Meghan shares video of Lilibet's Disneyland celebration

The Duchess of Sussex has shared another intimate video of the family celebrating Princess Lilibet's fourth birthday at Disneyland. The post on Instagram showed the family enjoying rides at the California attraction, drawing comparisons with Prince Harry's childhood trip to Florida's Walt Disney World with Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1993. The montage also features a clip of Archie, six, and Lili meeting Disney princess Elsa, from the film Frozen. Meghan wears a Minnie Mouse hat in some of the snaps featured in the video, while another image shows a two-tier Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake for Lili. The duchess captioned the video: "Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!" The footage was reminiscent of photos taken of the duke when he was eight and his mother Diana took him and William to Walt Disney World. At the time, the royal siblings were photographed sitting at the front of a log on the Splash Mountain ride, with adults from their mother's entourage behind them and Diana seated at the back. Meghan's post follows several family shots in recent days to mark Lili's birthday. In one, she posted a throwback video of herself twerking in a bid to bring on labour while pregnant with the princess, while another post featured a black and white snap of her cuddling Lili. In another post, she described how Lili's relationship with Harry was "the sweetest bond to watch unfold". She shared two photos of the princess with her father, the duke, adding: "Daddy's little girl and favorite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!" Lili - the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's youngest child - was born on June 4 2021 and was named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Lilibet is named after her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.
