ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — A group of quilters will be showcasing their creations in Altoona this weekend for National Quilting Day.
The Chimney Rocks Quilt Guild will be presenting an exhibition of handcrafted quilts at the ArtsAltoona Performance Center along 6th Avenue on Saturday, March 15. The event will include a special exhibit highlighting women quilters for Women's History Month.
The exhibition is free to attend starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m.
Older Pennsylvanians encouraged to submit artwork for showcase
Helen Seidel, the President of the Chimney Rocks Quilt Guild, said this is the first big event the group will hold since being established last June. She hopes the exhibit will help attract new members to the guild.
'I want to share our love of quilting with the community,' Seidel said. 'We will have a display of quilts, a quilt raffle, and some hands-on demos. Also, will have information about Quilts of Valor, a national organization that encourages the recognition of our veterans for their service by presenting them with a quilt made by our group.'
Seidel added the group has given over 200 guilts to area veterans.
More information about upcoming events can be found on the ArtsAltoona website.
