Zidane ‘can't wait' to take ‘dream' France job

Zinedine Zidane, widely tipped in France to take over as national coach after the 2026 World Cup, said the job would be 'a dream' and that he was 'looking forward' to taking it.
Zidane, who is 52, was speaking at an event on Monday organised by his long-time sponsors Adidas, French media reported.
'I feel qualified for the French team, where I played and spent practically 12, 13, 14 years as a player. Of course it's a dream. I can't wait,' said Zidane, a former captain of Les Bleus and the scorer of two goals as they won the 1998 World Cup final.
His midfield partner in that match and in France's Euro 200 triumph, was Didier Deschamps who has been in charge of the French side since 2012.
Deschamps led Les Bleus to the World Cup in 2018 but has announced that he will end his reign after the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
As a coach Zidane took Real to three Champions League triumphs and two Liga titles but has not taken a coaching job since ending his second spell at Real in 2021.

Alexander-Arnold has been criticised for his defensive concentration at times but brings supreme passing vision and attacking edge down the right flank.

Prodhomme wins Giro stage as Del Toro holds lead
AFP | Champoluc-Champlan Frenchman Nicolas Prodhomme won a sizzling stage 19 of the Giro d'Italia yesterday run over five Alpine peaks where an expected title showdown failed to fully ignite. Overall leader Isaac del Toro of Mexico remains 43 seconds ahead of Richard Carapaz of Ecuador while Briton Simon Yates is third at 1min 21s after losing 22sec on the day. EF rider Carapaz attacked late on in the race and Del Toro again proved he could keep up. Former Giro champion Carapaz was satisfied with his day's work. 'I think we were all very tired, and in the end I just had to give it a try. But I think it was a good stage. I think we can make it with Del Toro so I've got to be happy with my performance.' Visma rider Simon Yates was unable to follow the pair and said he would be reviewing the situation ahead of Satur-day's blockbuster, appearing annoyed at the line. 'We'll see how the legs are. The legs are good today so hoping for the same tomorrow and that I can try something,' said the pure climber who may yet take the title. His twin brother Adam Yates took it easy yesterday and will help sherpa UAE teammate Del Toro on the penultimate day. Prodhomme's face was twisted with the effort as he broke away from a large escape group. 'I've waited a long time for a win. I won my first race a week ago and now I win here in the Giro d'Italia.'

Swiatek, Sabalenka reach last 16

A former world number one, who has fallen to fifth in the WTA rankings, Swiatek has not won a title since her third consecutive title on the Parisian clay in 2024.
