And in the big race of the day, jockey Paul Townend helped Galopin Des Champs past the post first in a dominant Gold Cup display.
Denied a hat-trick of Gold Cup's at Cheltenham last month, the Willie Mullins-trained horse galloped home with a 22-lengths victory.
Galopin Des Champs prevented an unwanted hat-trick in the race, having been second to Fastorslow for the past two years.
The nine-year-old horse, which was the 5-6 favourite left no doubt about it's star quality as it received rapturous applause from punters watching the big race.

'We are very, very fortunate to have him,' said the winning jockey. 'Obviously we were very disappointed coming away from Cheltenham.

'The reception he gets his special and we are just lucky to be a part of it. He's a unique horse.'
Galopin Des Champs gave his rider a scare by producing a scruffy jump at the last, but it didn't impact the end result.
Townend continued: 'It wouldn't be like him at all but the fact he done it meant he was doing things easy enough.
'In fairness he gave me plenty of warning. After that he got in a good rhythm and enjoyed it.
'He was taking me today whereas I was trying to hang in there in Cheltenham. He wasn't right in Cheltenham and thankfully it didn't leave a huge mark on him which it could have with the effort he put in.
'ALL CLASS'
'He got me out of trouble at the last, there's no lying about it. He's all class."
The Punchestown Festival has long been billed as the grand finale of the National Hunt season.
And the famous five-day spectacle in Kildare attracts Ireland's best jumps horses, jockeys, and trainers.
On Thursday, it'll run from 4pm to 7pm on Friday with RTE One then showcasing the final day from 3pm until 5:45pm.
So anyone looking for a way to stream it can do so freely via the RTE Player.

Colin Keane wins opening day feature race at Royal Ascot

FIELD OF GOLD lit up the first day of Royal Ascot with a dominant display in the St James's Palace Stakes. John and Thady Gosden's colt had been a fast-finishing second behind Ruling Court in the 2000 Guineas before easily winning the Irish equivalent, while the French Guineas winner Henri Matisse was also running. There was no doubt who emerged as the best of the three though, as Colin Keane breezed through on the 8-11 favourite before bursting clear to beat Henri Matisse by three and a half lengths, with Ruling Court back in third. 𝐖𝐨𝐰. 𝐖𝐨𝐰. 𝐖𝐨𝐰. Field of Gold absolutely storms home in The St James's Palace Stakes under Colin Keane! ☘️ — Virgin Media Sport (@VMSportIE) June 17, 2025 Advertisement Field Of Gold has now charted the same route as his sire Kingman, who also suffered defeat at Newmarket before gaining Irish redemption and adding Royal Ascot glory when trained by John Gosden. 'Like father, like son,' said Gosden, in reference to Kingman's win in 2014. 'The nerves may have got to the trainer beforehand but thankfully not to the horse or the jockey. 'It was great, a great performance and Oisin (Murphy) did a nice job on Windlord setting an even pace and he came to the head of the straight and he had a lot of horse. 'For a moment I was thinking 'whoops, this is Ascot and it climbs and have we gone a bit soon'. I wasn't watching him, I was looking back as you always have to do here, but fortunately none of the dangers were coming to get him. 'He always impressed as a two-year-old but he was a big boy and slightly outgrew himself. We ran him in France which was a mistake in itself and I should have run him in the Dewhurst and I regret that. But this year he has been exemplary in everything he has done and he's a pleasure to train because he is a pretty relaxed character.' Gosden admitted the Irish 2,000 Guineas had not originally been part of Field Of Gold's intended campaign, which could influence where the colt heads next. He added: 'It was never the plan to go to Ireland and he's had a trial and two Guineas and now this which is a lot of racing and we're not even halfway through the season yet. 'Maybe (we'll) freshen him up now and go to the Sussex, but we will see. If we hadn't gone to Ireland, I would have been keen to go to the Eclipse. 'When they win like that and make it look easy they do take a lot out of themselves and I don't want to be someone seen running him back quick in an Eclipse straight off the back of this.'

Amy Huberman details 'chance' encounter that led to marriage with BOD

Amy Huberman has recalled that her guest appearance on an Irish television chat show led to her relationship and eventual marriage with Irish rugby star, Brian O'Driscoll. Next month, the couple celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary, after saying 'I do' in a stunning Lough Rynn Castle ceremony in 2010. The wedding took place four years after they started dating, which was spurred on by Amy appearing on TV while Brian was out of sport with an injury. Amy Huberman has recalled her a guest appearance on an Irish television chat show led to a relationship and eventual marriage with Irish rugby star, Brian O'Driscoll. Pic: Brian McEvoy Speaking on Ryan Tubridy's podcast, The Bookshelf with Ryan Tubridy, Amy recalled appearing on his show Tubridy Tonight during the height of her stint on The Clinic. 'Brian was injured and he was at home and he was watching it,' Amy told presenter Ryan Tubridy. 'We were on anyway and I think he enjoyed the chat and he was like, 'I don't know who she is! Who is she?'' The rugby star rang PR Joanne Byrne wondering who Amy was and was she a 'hermit' as he had never heard of her despite being the same age. Amy explained that the women had been in tracksuits at the time. Despite the set-up being organised for Brian, the Leinster player was 'shy' on the night as he had a 'crisis' about duping Amy. Pic: Brian McEvoy 'Joanne said, no, she's living in London,' Amy explained. 'The next time I came home, they'd kind of orchestrated that we'd kind of bump into each other. 'Norma Sheehan, she's a great friend of mine as well, we went to visit another friend of ours. Coming back, she was like I've to drop a book to somebody in the Merrion.' Amy explained that the women had been in tracksuits at the time. Despite the set-up being organised for Brian, the Leinster player was 'shy' on the night as he had a 'crisis' about duping Amy. 'I think it's quite sweet,' Amy noted, with Ryan confirming it was indeed a 'good sign.' The pair were around 26 years old at the time, with Amy previously telling Doireann Garrihy on the Laughs of Your Life podcast that she 'first shifted him downstairs [in Cafe en Seine].' More than 20 years on since their 'chance' encounter, the pair now share three children — Sadie, 12, Billy, 11, and four-year-old Ted.
