TL;DR
UAE ranks 8th globally, offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 184 countries.
It's the only country in the Middle East to make it into the Henley Passport Index Top 10.
The UAE jumped 34 places in 10 years, the biggest climb ever recorded in the index.
The United Arab Emirates has become one of the world's top players in passport strength, now ranked 8th globally in the 2025 Henley Passport Index. Emirati citizens can now travel to 184 destinations without applying for a visa beforehand, either visa-free or with visa-on-arrival access.
This wasn't always the case. A decade ago, UAE passport holders could enter just 35 countries without a prior visa. The country ranked 42nd at the time. Fast forward to today, and the UAE has not only entered the global top 10, but it has also recorded the largest leap in rankings ever seen in the 20-year history of the index.
What's even more notable? The UAE is the only country from the Middle East to appear in the global Top 10.
It now sits beside long-established global passport leaders like Canada, Estonia, and EU nations.
The rise is a clear result of years of active diplomacy, strategic partnerships, and negotiated visa waivers across continents. This isn't just about travel convenience. It also reflects the UAE's growing presence in global affairs, economics, and international cooperation.

It includes 199 passports and 227 destinations.
This isn't just a yearly snapshot. The index has been tracking travel freedom since 2006 and is often used by governments and policy experts. The 2025 update shows just how much has changed over the last decade, especially for countries like the UAE.
UAE's Big Leap
The UAE's rise isn't accidental. It's the outcome of consistent foreign policy efforts aimed at improving its citizens' global mobility.
In 2015, the UAE passport gave access to only 35 countries.
By 2025, that number rose to 185, a 34-spot jump.
This is the largest improvement by any country in the index's history.
Diplomatic efforts have played a big part. The UAE has signed dozens of visa-waiver agreements over the past few years, especially with European, Asian, and Latin American countries. These deals opened new travel options for citizens and made the passport far more useful globally.
Now, with its 8th-place ranking, the UAE sits next to long-standing passport powerhouses. It's also the only country from the Middle East to break into the top 10.
Where the Middle East Stands
The region as a whole is making gains. Several Gulf countries have improved their rankings in 2025:
Saudi Arabia now ranks 54th, with visa-free access to 91 countries.
Qatar is ranked 47th, with access to 112 countries.
Bahrain and Oman follow closely, at 55th and 56th, with access to 90 and 88 countries respectively.
Part of this boost comes from China's recent decision to allow visa-free entry to citizens of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. That move has given Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) citizens more access than ever before.
Still, none of these countries have matched the UAE's surge. It remains a clear outlier in regional passport strength.
Who's in the Global Top 10?
The strongest passport in 2025 belongs to Singapore, whose citizens can travel visa-free to 193 destinations.
Here's how the rest of the Top 10 looks:
Singapore (193)
Japan, South Korea (190)
France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Finland, Denmark, Ireland (189)
Sweden, Portugal, Austria, Netherlands (188)
Greece, Switzerland, New Zealand (187)
United Kingdom (186)
Australia, Czechia, Hungary, Malta, Poland (185)
UAE, Canada, Estonia (184)
Croatia, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia (183)
United States, Lithuania, Iceland (182)
The US, once a dominant force, is now on the edge of falling out of the Top 10, a first in the index's 20-year history.
Risers and Fallers: India, Saudi Arabia, and the US
Some countries saw dramatic changes this year:
India made the biggest ranking jump, climbing eight spots to 77th. That's despite gaining only two more visa-free destinations, now totaling 59.
Saudi Arabia added four new destinations since January, moving up to 54th.
The US and UK both slipped one place, continuing a downward trend that's lasted years.
The changes reflect shifts in diplomatic influence, global travel policies, and how nations respond to changing visa demands.
Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the 2025 ranking, with its passport allowing access to only 25 destinations.

Seize the plate, from Peru to Paloma

In recent months, the city's culinary landscape has expanded to welcome a wave of Peruvian and Latin American concepts that bring not only novel ingredients and techniques but also a deeper cultural narrative. Peruvian cuisine is a rich tapestry shaped by biodiversity and history. From the Pacific coastline and the Andes to the Amazon rainforest, Peru offers an unmatched variety of native produce. It is home to thousands of varieties of potatoes, rare chillies, tropical fruits, ancient grains and wild meats. These ingredients form the backbone of a cuisine that is earthy and refined, traditional yet constantly evolving. What makes Peruvian food truly global is its history of migration. Over centuries, Peru welcomed waves of settlers – Spanish, African, Chinese and Japanese, who introduced their own culinary traditions. Among these, the Japanese-Peruvian fusion known as Nikkei cuisine has gained significant international attention. Nikkei combines Japanese techniques and precision with Peru's dynamic ingredients, resulting in dishes that are clean, citrusy and visually elegant. The familiar yet distinct flavours of ceviche, tiradito, anticuchos [grilled skewers] and ají rocoto [spicy red pepper] have begun to charm Indian palates. RIKO, a Peruvian-Latin standalone restaurant recently opened in UB City, conceived by the Kofteci Group, known for restaurants like Oz by Kebapci and Klava. RIKO is both an homage and reinterpretation, its name means 'delicious' in Spanish, a promise delivered across seven sections of a thoughtfully curated menu. Highlights include bomba de choclo, a crispy corn custard sphere, and ceviche de mango y maracuyá, where passion fruit and lime elevate fresh prawns. The robust pollo a la brasa, a rotisserie chicken cooked over an open flame, pays tribute to traditional fire-led cooking, while desserts like cachapa con miel, a corn pancake drizzled with honey, offer comforting finishes. RIKO's approach is unconventional in more ways than one. It does not serve alcohol, focusing instead on innovative, flavour-driven non-alcoholic beverages. Think Brazilian lemonade made with lime and condensed milk, and a cooling cucumber-coconut agua du fresco. Its interiors, too, reflect a blend of old and new, with clay installations, microcement textures and a curated library of cultural artefacts. 'RIKO is about memory, not mimicry,' say co-founders Aasim and Adeeb Shah. 'Our aim was to interpret Latin American culinary traditions with integrity and intent.' Adding to the Latin wave is the newly opened Una Hacienda, perched above Bengaluru's busy streets with a beautiful conservatory. Designed by bar maestro Arijit Bose for the hospitality firm Investorant, this space evokes the spirit of a traditional Latin American estate house. Bose describes the concept as a return to the informal intimacy of evenings spent at a friend's home, long before Bengaluru's nightlife exploded. With tropical foliage, vintage furniture and golden lighting, Una Hacienda exudes a laid-back charm that is both nostalgic and modern.

Rang Ghar gets a luminous makeover as Sivasagar launches illumination project

1 2 3 4 Dibrugarh: Centuries-old Rang Ghar, often hailed as Asia's oldest amphitheatre, now stands bathed in luminous splendour as the Sivasagar district administration has successfully completed its ambitious monument illumination project. The initiative, which has transformed the visual landscape of the historic Ahom-era structure, represents a significant step toward preserving and promoting the state's rich cultural heritage. The illumination project has not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the iconic two-storied pavilion but has also sparked renewed public interest in the monument that once served as the royal sports pavilion of the Ahom kings. Built in 1746 during the reign of Swargadeo Pramatta Singha, Rang Ghar stands as a testament to the architectural brilliance and cultural sophistication of the Ahom dynasty. "This illumination project is part of our comprehensive effort to showcase the historical significance of our monuments to both domestic and international tourists. The response from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing amazement at how the lighting brings out the intricate architectural details of the structure," Sivasagar DC Ayush Garg said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2022 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo The district administration's vision extends beyond the Rang Ghar, with plans already underway to illuminate other significant Ahom-era monuments. The majestic Talatal Ghar, a seven-storied palace complex that served as the military base of the Ahom army, will soon get a similar facelift. The Kareng Ghar, another architectural marvel that functioned as the royal palace, is also slated for illumination, along with the serene Sivasagar Pukhuri (Lake) and the sacred Shiva Dol temple. "These monuments represent our glorious past and the advanced civilisation that flourished in Assam centuries ago. The illumination project will help younger generations connect with their heritage, while attracting tourists who appreciate the grandeur of Ahom architecture," Garg added. The district administration has also undertaken comprehensive programmes focusing on cleanliness and beautification of historical monuments, temples, tourist spots, parks, and other significant sites across the district. These initiatives aim to create a holistic tourism experience that honours the region's cultural legacy while meeting modern visitor expectations. "Our goal is to transform Sivasagar into a premier heritage destination. The illumination of these monuments is just the beginning of our larger vision to preserve and promote our historical treasures," Garg said.
