Kaitlyn Dever filmed pivotal The Last of Us scene weeks after losing her mother
Warning – Season 2 Episode 2 spoilers ahead…
The Last Of Us star Kaitlyn Dever has shared her grief at that shocking scene in season two.
Season 2, episode 2 of the hit HBO series had fans flocking to social media in their droves, with many distraught by one particularly heartbreaking moment.
Taking place five years after the events of the season 1 finale, the new season sees Abby leading the last of the Fireflies in search of Joel, played by Pedro Pascal. The Last Of Us star Kaitlyn Dever has shared her grief at that shocking season two scene. Pic:In the climactic episode, Abby finally confronts Joel about the murders at the Fireflies' base and, in a heart-wrenching moment, kills him while Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, watches.
Chatting with Entertainment Weekly, Dever opened up about filming the traumatic scene both as an actor and a fan of the show.
'I watched you guys in season 1, and your relationship was so beautiful. And watching the end of you guys was really, really hard for me, as a viewer,' she began.
'It was just a massive scene emotionally, and with blocking, too. There were so many moving parts and so many things to navigate.'
Emotions were understandably high for the star, who had lost her mother to cancer only weeks before filming the scene, with the funeral having taken place only days before production.
Thankfully, the Last of Us production team accommodated her by postponing the filming of the scene to a later date and having a closed set. Season 2, episode 2 of the hit HBO series had fans flocking to social media in their droves, with many distraught by one particularly heartbreaking moment. Pic:'To be as honest as possible. I will just say that my days leading up to this scene were horrible. I lost my mom two or three weeks before I actually shot this scene, and my mom's funeral was three days before I did my first day. So I was sort of in a fog. I was in a daze.
'Because of my life circumstances, I wasn't actually able to do my normal routine as an actor, which was really interesting because I was kind of worried about it. Usually if I have a monologue like that, I'm memorizing it three weeks before I do it. I had a different approach, and I think that it really served the character in a lot of ways. I was able to sort of… I don't know, just really let it go and not think about it too much because the words on the page are so powerful anyway.

Lovers of the show were quick to flood the comments with praise for the star, as they understood the hate she was about to receive for killing off such a beloved character.
'I know you posted this so there won't be any hate for Kaitlin after episode 2 because you're such a sweetheart! And don't worry, we love her,' one user wrote.
'I just hope nobody bullies Kaitlyn , she's an actress , not the character. Laura Bailey went through hell in 2020. Kaitlyn is an incredible actress and she plays Abby beautifully,' another penned.
'I dont hate the actress but I sure hope her character gets the same treatment from Eliie,' a third shared.

BBC Radio presenter apologises after hilarious blunder live on air
A BBC Radio presenter has apologised after accidentally yelling out a swear word live on air. It's the worst nightmare for radio presenters, that will happen sooner or later — you think you're off air, and you make an off-colour comment/swear, blissfully unaware that it went out to tens of thousands of listeners who may have been tuning in at that exact moment. This exact moment happened to BBC Radio Derby presenter Ian Skye, who was throwing over to the Kate Bush hit, Running Up That Hill. However, when the jingle for the station played… well, we'll let ye hear what he had to say. And don't worry, you won't have to listen too hard to hear it. The clip was shared by TV critic Scott Bryan, where it has since gained over 1million views on Twitter (X) — with people thinking that the clip, which came about because he suffered a cramp, was hilarious. 'Cheers, this is now my alarm ring tone,' one person joked, while another wrote 'starting a petition to make 'the sound of OH F*****G HELL' the permanent jingle for BBC Radio Derby. In fact the jingle for all local radio stations.' 'Worth the licence fee alone,' another quipped, while several others said that Ian made an 'Accidental Partridge' — a reference to Steve Coogan's iconic character. A BBC Radio presenter has apologised after accidentally yelling out a swear live on air. Pic: Getty Images Once the song wrapped up, Ian sheepishly apologised, revealing: 'I went on a course yesterday to learn to be better on the radio… I don't think they suggested suddenly getting an unbearably agonising cramp and shouting… really loud on the radio. That's probably not what I should've done.' Ian apologised for the snafu, admitting that it would've been hard not to hear it — joking: 'you'd have had to be deaf if you didn't hear a rude word. I really profusely apologise. 'You know, it just happens, and it's instinct… and my very very calm producer said 'you're still on the radio, Ian.'' Maryam Moshiri also had to apologise after she accidentally flipped off the camera when her news bulletin went on the air a second early, going viral. Pic: Twitter Of course, local radio means that not a lot of people would hear such a thing (unless of course someone screen records it and shares it to Twitter) — and sometimes, blunders similar to that can be made on national television. Case in point, when the BBC's Chief Presenter Maryram Moshiri was 'joking around a bit' with her producers as they were counting down, with her raising her eyebrows and giving the camera the middle finger before immediately changing into serious newsreader mode. 'Hey everyone, yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery,' Maryam wrote at the time. 'I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0… including the fingers to show the number. So from 10 fingers held up to one. 'It was a private joke with the team and I'm so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen and I'm sorry if I offended or upset anyone.'

‘I was seen as a terrible actress thanks to Pirates of the Caribbean,' Keira Knightley says of films that propelled her to stardom
The British star played Elizabeth Swann, the love interest of Orlando Bloom's Will Turner, in three of the swashbuckling adventure films from 2003 to 2007. The pair returned for a cameo in the 2017 sequel Dead Men Tell No Tales. While the franchise made a global star of Knightley, the Atonement actor said in 2024 that it wasn't all fun and games starring in the films, as she felt the franchise was simultaneously 'making and breaking' her. Knightley has now said the films, which starred Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, led to many believing her to be a bad actor. In a new Vanity Fair interview alongside Rosamund Pike, reflecting on their role in Joe Wright's 2005 film Pride & Prejudice, Knightley said: 'Pirates of the Caribbean had already come out, but I think in the public consciousness, I was seen as a terrible actress. 'I had this phenomenally big success with Pirates and I think Pride & Prejudice was the first one that was a phenomenally big success but was also critically acclaimed.' Knightley continued: 'I remember it coming out maybe the same year, maybe around the same time, as Pirates two – and I got the worst reviews ever for that. Then also being nominated for an Oscar at the same time, it was, in my 21-year-old head, quite confusing.' The second film, Dead Man's Chest, was released in July 2006, months after Knightley received her first Best Actress Oscar nomination for playing Elizabeth Bennet in Jane Austen adaptation Pride & Prejudice. Last year, Knightley said of the Pirates franchise, which has grossed more than $1bn at the global box office: 'They were the most successful films I'll ever be a part of and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly. So they're a very confused place in my head.' Addressing Knightley's comments earlier this year, Bloom told Entertainment Weekly: 'I definitely understand where Keira was coming from, and she does wonderful things [in the films]. Bloom said that he has 'a lot of positive takeaways' from his time starring in the blockbusters. He continued: 'It was such a huge moment in time that it feels almost like another lifetime now. But it certainly was unique and, you know, I'm always grateful.' A sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film is in the works, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer appearing to confirm in 2024 that lead star Johnny Depp would not be involved. The producer, whose sequel Top Gun: Maverick had huge box office success in 2022, told 'With Top Gun, you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant [Tom Cruise]. But we're gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don't have to wait for certain actors.' The possibility of Depp returning to the Pirates franchise was the subject of testimony during his defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp was asked by Heard's lawyer: 'If Disney came to you with $300m and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film?' 'That is true,' Depp answered.
