Guardiola unsure if Club World Cup will affect City's Premier League campaign
Pep Guardiola concedes he does not know if Manchester City's next Premier League challenge will be 'destroyed' by their Club World Cup campaign or not.
England manager Thomas Tuchel recently said the involvement of City and Chelsea in this summer's tournament in the United States would hand the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal a 'huge advantage' in the title race.

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has also described the event as 'the worst idea ever implemented in football' because of concerns over player welfare.
Guardiola, however, insists City – who face Al-Hilal in a last-16 tie in Orlando on Monday night (2am Tuesday UK) – are focused on rediscovering their best after a frustrating 2024-25 season and claiming the prize.
The City manager said: 'I try to relax, enjoy the days here and the good vibes that we have, the competition and we try to win it.
'The most important thing is to recover and find within ourselves what we were. That's my main target in this tournament.

'I want them to feel that this is our path again to be competitive like we have been in eight of the last nine years.
'After this, let's see what happens. Let's see what happens after the final. We will rest for the time the Premier League allow us.
'Maybe in November, December or January it will be a disaster, we are exhausted and the World Cup has destroyed us.
'I don't know, it's the first time in our lives that this has happened. We will see when we come back.'

Guardiola says he can understand the viewpoint of his old rival Klopp, now head of global soccer for Red Bull, who had a team involved in the tournament in Salzburg.
Yet he suggested people complaining might be jealous.
Speaking at a press conference, Guardiola said: 'I fought a lot with Jurgen many, many times. I know where his idea comes from.
'I respect him, I would defend his argument as well. At the same time, as managers, we are in a job. We don't organise the competitions.

'Once we are here, we are proud. Many, many teams complain about these competitions because they are not here, otherwise they might love being here.'
Weather problems have been a recurring issue in the tournament both in terms of intense heat and thunderstorms.

Chelsea's last-16 victory over Benfica on Saturday was suspended for almost two hours due to lightning in the vicinity.
Guardiola said: 'I am an extraordinary manager but to control lightning and thunder, still I am not good enough!

'If it is (suspended) here the same reason as why they suspend the other one, I will go inside and we will continue to be active and play again.
'It is not the ideal situation but I grew up to understand not to be worried about the situations that I can't control. So no problem.'

Inter knocked out of Club World Cup in last 16 by Brazilians Fluminense
Brazilian side Fluminense stunned Champions League finalists Inter by knocking them out of the Club World Cup with a 2-0 victory in the last 16 in Charlotte. The reign of new head coach Cristian Chivu, who took over following Simone Inzaghi's departure just days after that humbling 5-0 loss to Paris St Germain a month ago, has not started well as they exited the tournament before the quarter-finals. Goals from Germán Cano, after just three minutes, and Hércules in the third added minute at the end of the game sealed the Serie A side's fate. In the quarter-finals, Fluminense will face either Manchester City or Al Hilal, who were due to play each other later on Monday. If City are their opponents, it would be a rematch of the 2023 Club World Cup final, which City won 4-0 in Saudi Arabia. The match was played in front of a crowd of just 20,030 in the final game at the 74,867-capacity Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Two of the other three games at the stadium have also gone ahead with more than 40,000 empty seats. Fluminense's 44-year-old goalkeeper Fábio made four saves to seal one of the most famous wins in the Rio de Janeiro club's history, with 40-year-old former Chelsea centre-half Thiago Silva also producing a fine performance at the back. The result ensured there will be two Brazilian quarter-finalists in the first edition of this expanded tournament, with Palmeiras already having won through to face Chelsea in the last eight. Fluminense were the better side for the opening hour of another sweltering last-16 encounter, then suffered through increased Inter pressure for the final 20 minutes to keep their third clean sheet of the tournament. Lautaro Martínez came closest to pulling Inter Milan level, forcing Fábio into saves in the 80th and 82nd minutes, then striking the upright with another low effort only seconds later. In the 93rd minute, Inter's at times shaky defence was exposed for a second time. Hércules found himself free at the edge of the 18-yard box following a throw-in, and drove a composed, low finish into the bottom right corner, sending most of the crowd into delirium. Cano had put the Brazilians in front in just the third minute during a shaky start from Inter. The pattern of more Inter possession but more dangerous Fluminense chances continued early in the second half, and Sommer reacted superbly in the 62nd minute to dive and push Arias's effort from beyond the penalty area just around his left post. After the game Martínez was critical of Inter's performance. 'I gave everything on the pitch, in every training session, and I'm really sorry,' he said on Dazn. 'I don't want to lose, and I feel bad for the team. But I want to say one thing: you have to want to stay at Inter. India provide Jasprit Bumrah fitness update for second Test against England
India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has revealed that star bowler Jasprit Bumrah is fit to face England in the second Test at Edgbaston this week, though coaches have not decided whether he will feature in Birmingham. Bumrah, who took five wickets across two innings in the first Test as India fell to defeat at Headingley, will likely only feature in three matches during the five-Test series, having suffered a back injury during the final match of India's 3-1 series defeat in Australia in January. The 31-year-old previously said he needs to 'take care of my body', telling Sky Sports before the series opener that he can likely only manage three matches at the moment, with India's coaching staff now evaluating how to get the best use out of their main bowling threat. And speaking to Sky, ten Doeschate said that Bumrah is 'available for the game' at Edgbaston, but that coaching staff have not yet 'made a call' as to whether he'll feature. 'Obviously we know from the start he's only going to play three out of the five [Tests], he's obviously had eight days to recover from the last Test,' said the Dutchman. 'Given conditions and workload, and how we think we can best manage the next four games, we haven't made a call on that. We're going to see where the other guys are with their workload as well. 'So technically, yes, he is available, but we haven't made a decision on whether he's going to play or not yet,' he added. When quizzed again regarding Bumrah, ten Doeschate reiterated that 'if we feel like there's value in playing him in this Test, we'll make that call at the very last minute'. 'But, you know, I'm talking about weather, how the pitch is going to play,' he said. 'Are we better of holding him back for Lord's and maybe Manchester or the Oval? Phil Giles ‘wouldn't be massively surprised' if Bryan Mbeumo stays at Brentford
Giles, speaking on Monday afternoon at the unveiling of new head coach Keith Andrews, said the London club would be 'open' to a deal which was 'right for us financially', but insisted Mbeumo staying put was 'not off the table'. 'In terms of expectations, I don't actually know where that will end up,' Giles said. 'I think we made our point clear that Bryan had such a great season and if he earned a massive move now, which is right for us financially, then we would be open for that, but if he's here next season I wouldn't be massively surprised, it would be welcomed, we would be delighted. Brentford scored a club-record 66 Premier League goals last season en route to an impressive 10th-place finish, with Mbeumo's 20-goal haul a big factor. 'With Bryan, he had 20 Premier League goals last season so we expected lots of interest and there has been lots of interest,' Giles added. 'He has his own views for the next part of his career and where he will end up, which is fair, because it's his career and those conversations have been going on for the last couple of weeks.' If Mbeumo does leave, he would add to a growing list of summer departures from Brentford, with manager Thomas Frank joining Tottenham, goalkeeper Mark Flekken heading to Bayer Leverkusen and midfielder Christian Norgaard 'more likely than not', in Giles' words, to leave.
