Dubai International Airport (DXB) has maintained its position as the world's busiest airport for international passenger traffic in 2024, according to a report released today by Airports Council International (ACI) World, Emirates News Agency has reported.
Preliminary figures indicate that the 2024 global total passengers are close to 9.5 billion, representing an increase of 9 per cent from 2023, and in 2025 are predicted to reach 9.9 billion.

For total passengers, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport defends its top position since 2023, followed by Dubai International Airport and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. The busiest airport for cargo is Hong Kong (HKG).
According to global travel data company OAG, Dubai International Airport (DXB) was deemed the world's busiest international airport for 2024 back in January. 60.2 million seats were sold last year, gaining the airport the top spot in the world for the second year running. DXB was also ranked first in 2019, then 2023 and now 2024 in this report too.
During just Eid, Dubai airport had one of their busiest times and saw 3.6 million people travelling through the terminals. Daily total traffic was set to average at around 276,000 guests, with the first week of April as the busiest time.

A Bahraini national have been announced as the new dollar millionaire at the latest Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise draw, held on Wednesday at Concourse C of Dubai International Airport. Mohamed Tareq Mohamed Akbar, a Bahraini national based in Manama, Bahrain became $1 million winner, in Millennium Millionaire Series 504 with ticket number 3897 which he purchased online on May 25, 2025. Akbar who is the 4th Bahraini national to have won US$1 million in the Millennium Millionaire promotion since 1999, is currently uncontactable, but will no doubt be delighted to learn of his newfound fortune. Eid Al Adha: Dubai records more than 600,000 passengers during holidays
More than 620,000 passengers have arrived in and departed from Dubai during the four-day Eid Al Adha holidays, from June 5 to June 8, the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA)-Dubai revealed on Wednesday. GDRFA said Dubai International Airport accounted for the largest share of this movement, registering 581,527 travellers; while 46,863 travellers passed through the Hatta border post, and 1,169 travellers crossed via maritime ports during the same period. The total number of incoming and outgoing passengers reached 629,559. 'This figure reflects the vibrancy that Dubai enjoys as a global hub for transit and residence,' GDRFA said in a statement sent to Khaleej Times. 'We have made it a priority to ensure a seamless travel experience through smart gates and artificial intelligence technologies, which have contributed to speeding up procedures and improving the flow of movement,' noted Maj-Gen Talal Al-Shanqeeti, assistant director general of the air ports sector at GDRFA. 'The travel experience has become part of our commitment to enhancing quality of life, in line with the Dubai government's approach to providing flexible services that meet individuals' expectations and enhance the readiness of its institutions,' he added.
