With less than five weeks left until the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin on August 6th, PGA Tour players are scrambling for every point that could punch their ticket to the postseason.
A few events offer more leverage than others, like the Open Championship at Royal Portrush, where 600 FedEx Cup points are up for grabs. But for one PGA Tour winner, the only thing more frustrating than missing out is not knowing if he's even in, and he's not staying quiet about it.

Michael Kim, currently ranked No. 55 in the Official World Golf Ranking and 29th in the FedEx Cup standings, took to X on Thursday to call out the R&A for its lack of communication regarding his Open Championship status.
"You'd think with less than two weeks before the Open Champ starts, the R&A could give me a decent idea of whether I'm playing it or not... but nope," Kim wrote. "All I've gotten is 'you have a slight chance.'"
He followed up with another jab: "My friend who looked at all the qualifications has given me more info than the R&A has."
"There's still 6 spots left and if they fill it with OWGR, then I'm most likely in—but even that they won't say anything about."
Kim's frustration isn't unfounded. With a strong 2025 season that includes three top-10 finishes and a T4 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he's been one of the most consistent performers outside the top tier.
His OWGR average of 2.09 and FedEx Cup total of 1,057 points put him ahead of several players.
Meanwhile, the R&A has continued to finalize its 156-player field, with recent additions including Sergio Garcia, who earned his spot via the LIV Golf exemption after landing fifth in the LIV Golf's standings.
Lee Westwood, another LIV veteran, qualified through Final Qualifying at Dundonald Links, marking his first Open appearance since 2022. Other big names confirmed include Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and Tommy Fleetwood.
To date, six spots remain unfilled, and the R&A has yet to clarify whether they'll be awarded via OWGR, alternates, or special exemptions. For players like Kim, who sit on the bubble, the silence is deafening.

$41 Million PGA Tour Golfer Is Going Viral for the Wrong Reasons

$41 Million PGA Tour Golfer Is Going Viral for the Wrong Reasons originally appeared on Athlon Sports. PGA Tour veteran Lucas Glover, with $41 million in career earnings, teed off at the John Deere Classic on Thursday, finishing 1-over par. He is tied at the 113th position and runs the risk of missing the cut if he doesn't improve his standing Friday. Advertisement But it's not his play that's making headlines. On his SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio show, Glover unleashed scathing criticism of players who defected to LIV Golf. 'I don't want to play with them, me personally," Glover declared. "I don't think they should be back here. I don't want them here. They made their decision. I don't blame any of them. They made a decision, I don't care, but they also went away from this tour and chose to." He continued, 'As a PGA Tour player and somebody that dreamed of playing on the PGA Tour and have poured my heart and soul into this Tour and game for 21 seasons now, I don't want somebody that chose another path." Advertisement Glover added, 'I don't want them back here competing and taking part of my pie and these kids' pie that are trying to make it now." Fans on social media stood divided on his take. Some declared their support and praise for his statements, while others rebuked him for his take. In a tight-knit community like professional golf, where the chances of reunification between the PGA Tour and LIV remain uncertain, Glover's blunt comments underline the emotions at play. George Russell Sends Message to Teams Who Have Approached Him for 2026 Season

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Mercedes driver George Russell made it clear that he is getting interest from all over the Formula 1 paddock. Russell remains in the rumor mill as his contract is set to expire after the current season. Mercedes remains linked to Red Bull's Max Verstappen — leading to Russell's future becoming increasingly unclear. Even though Verstappen is under contract for several more seasons at Red Bull, the team's struggles over the past calendar year have led to the Dutch driver becoming unsettled. Photo byRussell is driving at the highest level of his career. He is getting the most out of the W16 and has been putting in impressive performances all season long. Despite the stellar races from Russell, the four-time Drivers' Champion remains to be the most sought after driver on the grid. If Verstappen were to become available, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said he would be willing to do whatever it takes to get his signature. In the lead-up to the British Grand Prix, Russell was asked whether he feels good about landing another seat on the grid: "Pretty confident, to be honest," Russell told the media. "I think what I've proven so far has been plenty enough. Not really much more to say. "Any team who have reached out in the past, I said: 'Look I am loyal to Mercedes. That's where my future lies'" Russell — throughout the entire contract negotiation process — hasn't wavered in his belief that he will drive for Mercedes next season. He raised his level to net an extended stay with the Brackley-based team and believes it is a matter of time before the deal becomes official. "Ultimately, Mercedes are my managers," he said. "So it has to be dealt through Mercedes in the first place. "There hasn't been a lack of interest, let's say, but I've been focused on my side, and I am loyal to Mercedes. "At the end of the day, everything will work itself out. The likelihood I'm not a Mercedes next year, I think, is exceptionally low." Wolff said a decision on Russell's contract will come during the summer break, by which time the team hopes to have clarity on their driver lineup for the monumental 2026 season. After spending years in Mercedes's developmental program, Russell is committed to remaining loyal, but time will tell if the team reciprocates his faith.
