‘A little child' – Barcelona star the subject of fresh criticism
This of course comes amid ongoing rumours pointing towards mounting tension between club and player.
The subject of goalkeeper Ter Stegen's relationship with those behind the scenes at the Camp Nou has emerged as an altogether prominent one in the media over recent weeks.
This comes with the 33-year-old all of a sudden finding himself in something of a precarious situation in Hansi Flick's squad.
After so long acting as the undisputed no.1 option between the posts in Catalunya's capital, Ter Stegen has this summer tumbled all the way down to third-choice.
Such developments are understood to have left the shot-stopper far from impressed, giving rise to widespread claims of growing tension between the parties.
Hansi Flick, meanwhile, was on more than one occasion left bemused by the behaviour of his fellow countryman this past season.
And as alluded to above, this week, Ter Stegen has been singled out for some fresh and altogether ruthless criticism.
Speaking during an appearance on El Larguero, journalist Santi Gimenez of SER embarked on the following rant regarding Barca's out-of-favour shot-stopper:
'Ter Stegen has behaved like a little child… Since last season: He acted poorly against Szczęsny, acted poorly against Peña, and stated that he wants to return and play to participate in the Nations League with Germany. He chooses moments of glory and avoids tough moments, which is absolutely unacceptable for a team captain! I mean, he went to Seville to lift the Copa del Rey, but he didn't travel to Milan to attend the team's UCL semi-final… While Koundé, for example, traveled in economy class to support his teammates. As for Ter Stegen, since there was no glory, he didn't want to show up. And on the day of the La Liga coronation, because he was angry for not playing, he sabotaged the speech that was planned in front of the crowd waiting for the players to speak at the stadium. And to make matters worse, his latest behavior was when he announced the duration of his absence before the surgery!'

Matt Turner joins Revolution on loan from Lyon as he looks to get back to national team form
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Matt Turner is returning to his MLS roots as he looks to get back into position to compete for the starting job as U.S. national team's goalkeeper. Turner will join the New England Revolution on loan from French Ligue 1 club Lyon through June 2026, the Revolution announced Friday. The deal includes an option to purchase the contract of Turner, who will be a designated player on the Revolution's roster for the remainder of the 2025 season. He'll be eligible for targeted allocation money in 2026. One of the reasons that Turner was displaced by New York City FC's Matt Freese at the U.S. starter at goalkeeper for the CONCACAF Gold Cup matches in June and July was that he hadn't played consistently at the club level for France's Lyon. Turner, 31, became the No. 1 U.S. goalkeeper ahead of the 2022 World Cup and had started 14 consecutive competitive matches for the U.S. and 23 of 24 before the Gold Cup. Turner will now look to get back to that level in New England, where he made his pro debut in 2016. He last played for New England in 2022, posting a 53.3% save percentage over five starts. ___ AP soccer:

Borussia Dortmund and Porto looking to poach Barcelona youngster on preseason tour
Barcelona have taken six youngsters from Barca Atletic or their under-19 side on their preseason tour, as Hansi Flick looks to channel more talent in the pipeline to the senior squad. However with competition for places at the club increasingly fierce, the ability to add young talent to his squad is increasingly limited. The promise of those opportunities is key to ensuring some of the game's most promising talents stick around – at least that is the case for Guille Fernandez. The 17-year-old creative midfielder is highly regarded at La Masia, but Sport say that he is not guaranteed to remain at the club this summer. Barcelona are priority for Guille Fernandez Fernandez is keen to continue at the club, but wants to ensure that he has the necessary room to grow. Given 15 minutes of action against FC Seoul, alongside cousin Toni Fernandez, he will sit down with agent Jorge Mendes to assess his situation, and his potential route forward, before making a decision on his future. That will involve sitting down with the club to hear out their plans for him. If there is no clear plan to give him chances, then Fernandez and Mendes will seek an exit either on loan or on a permanent deal. Image via Sport. European giants looking into Fernandez future Mendes already has a number of concrete proposals on the table for Fernandez, and interest from some Europe's biggest clubs. Neither of Porto or Borussia Dortmund have made an offer, but both are interested, and have strong histories of developing emerging talent before players make the jump to the very top of the game. Manchester City have also been linked with Fernandez in the past, as have Dortmund's biggest rivals Bayern Munich. The Spain under-19 international is under contract until 2027, but only penned that deal on the promise of a clear progression to the first-team, which with an array of options in central midfield already, looks a tough ask of Flick and Director of Football Deco.
