Teen (16) detained by Swedish police following fatal shooting of three in Uppsala
The victims, aged 15 to 20, were shot dead late on Tuesday afternoon just as Uppsala, a university town 40 minutes north of Stockholm, was gearing up for Walpurgis Night, one of the busiest holidays in the city.
'An intensive investigation is underway. We are now gathering information and the police are conducting door-to-door inquiries and interviewing witnesses,' the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement.
'In addition, mobile phones and other material that has been seized are being analysed.'

Police told a news conference that it was too early to say if the shooting was gang related, but it was one of the theories they were pursuing 'particularly intensively'.
They said the victims were all 15-20 years old but declined to give more information about them, saying they had not been conclusively identified yet.
Sweden's legal system ranks detentions according to the level of evidence authorities believe they hold against a suspect, and the 16-year-old had been detained under the highest level, the Prosecution Authority said.
Court documents, heavily redacted due to the suspect's young age, showed a person had been arrested on Wednesday, just after midnight. The court-appointed lawyer for the suspect did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Sweden has suffered from a wave of gang-related violence for more than a decade that has included an epidemic of gun violence.
Sweden had 2.5 times more gun deaths than the EU average in 2023. So far this year, 25 people have been shot dead in the country of 10.5 million inhabitants.
There has been a wave of attacks carried out by minors at the behest of criminal gangs, who exploit the Swedish legal system which carries substantially softer sentences for people under the age of 18.
Many gang leaders direct operations from abroad, making it difficult for Swedish police to apprehend those commissioning the killings, though they have made some headway in bringing down the number of shootings.
'Regardless of what is behind it, it is a violence that no decent society can accept and must stop,' Minister of Justice Gunnar Strommer told a news conference on Wednesday.
'We will not slow down in this work,' he said.
Police said the incident was believed to be 'an isolated event' and not linked to extensive celebrations expected for Walpurgis Night, a festive occasion where families and students gather around bonfires to celebrate spring.

Debunked: Viral video of Trump berating the Irish government over immigration is fabricated
IN A VIDEO showing a White House press conference, Donald Trump railed against the Irish government, calling the Taoiseach and Tánaiste 'criminals' and 'evil'. That speech, however, never happened. The footage that appears to show the US president ranting about Simon Harris and Micheál Martin has been viewed tens of thousands of times on Facebook, despite being an AI-generated hoax. The actual footage comes from a recent announcement by Trump about an investment by the US electronics company Apple. However, in the fabricated version of the video, the audio has been switched out with what appears to be an AI-generated rant against immigration in Ireland. 'You who say Irish identity, sovereignty, and culture is backward,' Trump appears to say in the hoax video, before smiling toward Apple CEO Tim Cook, standing awkwardly next to him. 'I will punish, humiliate and belittle you, for your sick globalist and woke ideology, anti-Irish agenda'. The fabricated audio, which is filled with misinformation, goes on to depicts migrants as a threat to women and children and the Irish government as EU puppets. The speech, however, is fake. The footage is an exact match for a video posted by the US Public Affairs Network C-SPAN on 6 August, in which he announced that Apple had pledged to invest $100 Billion into America. Advertisement Trump also spoke on other issues, including insulting TV hosts such as Stephen Colbert, and saying news about the administration's handling of the Epstein situation was a 'hoax'. He did not, however, address Simon Harris or Micheál Martin, or talk about immigration in Ireland during that press conference. The audio in the fabricated video appears to be generated by Artificial Intelligence software. While the accent of the speaker is American, and the tone of the voice is not unlike Trump's, it does not sound like him. The rhythm of the speech is unnatural, and sentences are broken up in odd ways that don't make sense, possibly in an attempt to keep the audio in sync with Trump's mouth movements in the video. However, despite these flaws, the video appears to have duped many people. 'Never thought I would agree with him but in this case I do', says one comment with more than 200 likes, posted under a Facebook video. A reply saying 'that's fake AI' garnered only five emoji responses. Other posts disagreed with the message in the video, but also seemed to be convinced that the footage itself was real. 'He should talk about crime,' one comment read. 'He's the biggest criminal in history.' Defence Forces to increase patrols to combat Russian ships in Irish waters
The Defence Forces are to increase both air and naval patrols to combat Russian ships on illegal manoeuvres in Irish waters. The revelation was made by the Defence Minister Simon Harris as part of a new National Maritime Security Strategy that is currently being finalised. The Government will also speed up the €300 million purchase of a new radar defence system for the State along with sonar capability for its fleet. Four out of our eight naval ships are in operation at the moment but the pressure is now on to hire more recruits to get them all back out to sea. The Irish military has also signed up to the EU's Common Information Sharing Environment system which will help track all vessels coming in and out of our Atlantic Waters up to 200 miles off the west coast. The Government has been coming under increasing pressure from other European states to invest more money in defence and to keep a far closer eye on Russian activities in Irish territorial waters. It follows a year after various Russian ships made secret inclusions into the Exclusive Irish Economic Zone, as it is known, and acted suspiciously around the various international sea cables that come ashore off the west coast. Ireland is the main point linking the internet between Europe and the United States. Mr Harris has assured the public he is taking the Russian threat seriously. He said in a series of replies to parliamentary questions about Russia's activities in Irish water: "The Defence Forces routinely monitor foreign vessels with both Naval Service Assets and Air Corps maritime patrol aircraft as well as remote monitoring on a 24/7 basis from the Naval Operations Command Centre in Haulbowline. Tanaiste Simon Harris "It should be noted that foreign vessels transiting Irish waters must do so in compliance with international law and may be subject to sighting and observation by the Naval Service and Air Corps without their innocent passage being infringed. "In relation to additional measures being introduced to strengthen maritime security and surveillance, My Department is working to deliver Ireland's first ever National Maritime Security Strategy. "The aim of the strategy is, amongst other things, to enhance our maritime domain awareness and to protect our critical infrastructure." (Image: PA) During the past two years the Air Corps has brought into service two state-of-the-art Airbus C295 Maritime Patrol Aircraft. The Navy has also started using the P70 Class ship to further help and enable more sea operations. The new intelligence deal with the EU will also result in more secure information being shared with Ireland. Mr Harris added: "This EU programme enables structured and secure information sharing among EU maritime authorities both civil and military, allowing for more effective operations at sea amid new and evolving maritime threats."
