Curse of Omaze strikes again as stunning £6million prize winner home falls foul of council's planning rules
Yet another Omaze property has left its new owners with a huge headache. A £6 million prize house on the North Norfolk coast has fallen foul of planning rules, with officers saying the home was built differently to the plans which were approved by the local council. A member of the public alerted the council after realising that the Blakeney home appeared to be larger than what was previously approved. The company has now been forced to submit new applications to North Norfolk District Council to address the changes which were made to the building's initial design. Larkfields, situated in the upmarket resort of Blakeney and designed in the style of the exclusive homes found in The Hamptons area of Long Island, was gifted to a prize winner in March. An additional swimming pool, summer house and tennis court were all built on the property without approval from the council. An extension to the east of the house, a four-bay garage and garden landscaping, were also added to the property, despite not being in the planning documents. Omaze is hoping that all the elements can remain as it submitted retrospective plans for the changes, alongside a door which was supposed to have been a window. The company did not build the house itself but purchased it to be used in a prize draw for Comic Relief. The competition which gave away the house was endorsed by a number of famous faces including Lenny Henry, Jamie Oliver, Rylan Clark and Davina McCall. Omaze previously insisted it had done 'due diligence' and the mansion is legal. Permission was granted for a previous property on the site to be demolished and a three-bedroom replacement built in 2020. Further permission was granted the following year for the window sizes to be altered and a flat roof veranda to be extended. But the eagle-eyed tipster claimed the 2020 floorplans differed from those publicised by Omaze, which purchased the property in July 2024. The house's new owner Vicky Curtis-Cresswell, is still yet to recieve the keys to her new home. The company has promised to resolve a series of planning breaches before ownership is transferred as well as paying any costs involved. North Norfolk District Council and Omaze have been contacted for comment. One of the bedrooms at the £6m coastal home in Norfolk The original approved ground floor plans for the home in Blakeney The Daily Mail previously revealed that all, but a handful of the 39 winners of Omaze home draws in the UK, have sold or are planning to sell them. Last month a widow put her £4million Scottish Highland home up for sale just months after winning it in a raffle. Patricia Moule, 81, from Southampton, won the property in Perthshire on the banks of Loch Rannoch after it was raffled by Omaze in April. The widow described the house as 'breathtaking', adding: 'The scenery is spectacular, I've never seen anything so beautiful in all my life.' But the property has gone on the market only four months later with offers over £3.9 million. The house comes with five bedrooms, five bathrooms, three reception rooms, a factor's cottage, a steading with garaging and workshop, a summer house, and formal gardens with an orchard and lawns. It also has about 1km of frontage to Loch Rannoch, along with a tennis court, a private stone jetty and a slipway. The estate agent describes the property as 'an exquisite, contemporary house finished to the highest standard'. The 81-year-old had settled down to watch Friday night TV when she got the call about her life-changing win. She said: 'It was just another Friday night really, I was just getting ready to settle down with a cup of coffee and watch a bit of telly. 'Then all of a sudden, I get a call and the Omaze team turns up to tell me I've won a £4million house in the Scottish Highlands, I was absolutely overwhelmed!' The former property manager bought her £4million winning entry for just £25 as part of her Omaze subscription. She said her plan to sell the house will be 'transformational' as she will be able to offer her family 'a generational legacy' that will secure their future. The mansion comes with £160,000 worth of furnishings and is mortgage-free, with all stamp duty and legal fees covered. Winners also get a whopping £250,000 in cash to help them settle in and can decide to either live in the house, rent it out for a supplementary income, or sell it and become a cash multi-millionaire. If she had decided to rent it out, local estate agents estimate that the property could achieve a long-term rental value of between £8,000 - £10,000 per month. The grandmother said she will 'definitely come up for a big family holiday before we sell it'. Lauren Keene, 24, won a six-bedroom Hollywood-style home last December, but the full time nanny chose to cash in on the house in the Wirral, Merseyside, and putting it on the market for £2.5million, a discount of £500,000 on the original £3million valuation. Grandfather Tom Steenson, 63, won an amazing £2million four bedroom home including a gym, cinema and swimming pool in November last year. But less than two months later, it was revealed that he had put the property in Exmouth, Devon, on the market for £2.35million which is £350,000 more than the valuation when he won it. The Highlands property has been meticulously renovated, combining two existing cottages in a contemporary style, whilst still maintaining a sense of historical character. The result is a harmonious blend of original period features, flawlessly finished with modern luxuries and conveniences. The lounge, living and dining rooms in the 8,870 sq ft house all benefit from dual aspect views. The lounge also features a vaulted ceiling and oak bookcases. A summer house looks out over the loch and features two stained-glass windows which were salvaged from St Paul's Newington Church, Edinburgh. It was built in the vernacular style by Sir James Menter for his beloved wife. Outside, a manicured formal garden blends perfectly with the natural landscape beyond.

Mother-of-two lands £4million Omaze mansion off £25 ticket... but her husband thought they had won a lifetime supply of SAUSAGES
A mother-of-two has won a luxurious £4million property for just £25 - after her husband initially thought they'd landed a lifetime supply of sausages. Emily Ward, 48, is now the owner of a four-bedroom home in the exclusive Alderley Edge Conservation Area in Cheshire's Golden Triangle - a hot spot for Premier League footballers and celebrities. Her new home - snapped up in the latest Omaze Million Pound House Draw - comes with panoramic countryside views, a full indoor leisure suite and landscaped gardens. Ms Ward said: 'At first, my husband thought we'd won a lifetime supply of sausages, but then we realised it was actually a £4million house instead, now that's a real banger.' Famous residents past and present include Cristiano Ronaldo, Sir David and Victoria Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy. Its celebrity attraction has earned it the reputation as the Beverly Hills of the North. Ms Ward's new home comes mortgage-free, with all legal fees covered and an additional £250,000 in cash to help her settle in. When Omaze first arrived at her house to tell her that they'd scooped a prize, she and husband Richard, 60, were out buying tent pegs for a new campervan, so neighbours reached out to her. She won a luxurious £4million property after buying a £25 ticket - but her husband initially thought they'd won a lifetime supply of sausages. The mother, from Devon, added: 'One of the Omaze team had a sandwich on their t-shirt - so the neighbour thought I'd won a lifetime supply of food. 'They posted in the WhatsApp group and I replied, 'If it's not Omaze or Premium Bonds, I'm not interested.' A few minutes later, Omaze were on the doorstep. 'My husband thought we might have won a lifetime's supply of sausages - which he was genuinely thrilled about. 'Winning this house is more a case of bangers and cash. 'I said we can cook all the sausages he wants in the new house, so my husband is doubly happy.' And what did they do to celebrate the banging win? 'We went to the pub that night and then for a nice dinner with friends the next evening, where we splashed out on a special bottle of champagne,' a cheery Ms Ward said. 'My jaw hurts because I haven't stopped smiling since we found out. 'When I told my friends, they were so happy for us but just kept saying "you're joking" no one could believe it. I still don't think I believe it.' On her new house, she said: 'The house is spectacular - I can see why it's so popular with millionaire footballers. 'It's crazy to think that I might bump into Wayne or Coleen Rooney when popping out for a pint of milk. 'The house has got everything you could ever possibly want - a swimming pool, sauna, gym, wine store, incredible countryside views-It's definitely in the premier league of houses. 'We can't wait to jump into the pool and test out the sauna - I wish I'd brought my costume.' Although the couple haven't decided whether to sell or keep the house yet, she added: 'We'll definitely enjoy the house for a family holiday - maybe we'll enjoy a big Christmas up here. 'We're so excited to experience a house like this because it's not the kind of place you get to visit every day, let alone own. 'Whatever we decide to do long-term, winning this house has changed all our lives forever, it's an incredible feeling.' Ms Ward, who has worked in the same career for 25 years, had always dreamed of scaling back on work to spend more quality time with her husband, their children and the family dogs - but didn't imagine it would ever become a reality. 'People say that money can't buy time, but winning a house worth millions means we can finally work less and spend more time together. 'This win will give us the freedom to go on adventures. We'd actually just bought a campervan to try and go away more as a family - it's fair to say winning this house is a bit of an upgrade on a campervan.' The couple, who have a large family between them - Richard has three grown-up children in their 30s and four grandchildren - are looking forward to hosting in the luxury kitchen and stunning outdoor terrace area. She added: 'I've always said if I ever won something like this, I'd focus on enjoying life properly. Now that dream's suddenly a reality. 'It means I can finally take a breath after 25 years of working flat out. It's not just a win, it gives us so many incredible opportunities for the future. 'It changes everything - not just for us, but for our children too. 'Thanks to the £250,000 we also get as part of our win, we could afford to stay here for years if we decided to. Or maybe we'll rent it out to a new Man City signing.' The striking new home features dramatic cantilevers, walls of glass and recessed balconies - offering more than 6,300 sq ft of light-filled living space across three floors. The layout includes a double-height living room, with a floor-to-ceiling glazed wall and a wraparound, south-facing terrace connects directly to the landscaped gardens below. On the first floor, the custom-built kitchen includes a range of high-end Miele appliances. On the ground floor, a full leisure suite features an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym with dedicated changing facilities. There's also a walk-in wine store, as well as a fourth bedroom with additional shower room. The second floor has the principal bedroom suite, complete with an en suite bathroom and large dressing room overlooking the garden- alongside two further en suite bedrooms. The house also offers a standalone home office tucked into a secluded corner of the garden- offering Emily a peaceful spot to work or unwind. James Oakes, President of Omaze, said: 'Everyone at Omaze is thrilled that Emily has won this spectacular home in Cheshire's Golden Triangle, whilst also helping to raise £3.7million for Anthony Nolan.
