GRS ready for Sabah election, says CM

He said a series of courses had already been conducted in each constituency and state assembly area to strengthen the coalition's election machinery.
Advertisement Hajiji affirmed GRS's readiness after officiating the District Police Headquarters Qurban Programme on Saturday, though he noted that seat allocations had yet to be discussed. At the event, he and several state leaders symbolically handed over sacrificial cattle to district police chief Supt Noraidin Ag Maidin. Those present included Rural Development Minister cum Tamparuli assemblyman Datuk Jahid Jahim, Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister cum Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, and Pantai Dalit Assemblyman Datuk Jasnih Daya. On Hari Raya Aidiladha, Hajiji expressed hope that the celebration would inspire unity and a spirit of sacrifice among Malaysians, especially Muslims, for the common good.

Myanmar slams UN labour resolution

BANGKOK: Myanmar's ruling military on Saturday hit back at a UN resolution aimed at curbing labour violations in the war-torn nation, calling it 'politically motivated'. The International Labour Organization (ILO) on Thursday invoked Article 33 of its constitution which could see sanctions imposed against the military authorities which seized power in a 2021 coup. Advertisement The United Nations' labour agency said countries should ensure their relations with Myanmar 'in no way enable, facilitate or prolong the violations of workers' rights in respect of freedom of association and forced labour.' It called on international bodies to 'report any activities... directly or indirectly enabling or abetting' labour violations under Myanmar's junta government. On Saturday Myanmar's labour ministry released a statement saying the resolution had been adopted 'without due partiality and fairness' and was based on 'politically motivated approaches'. A UN investigation into Myanmar in October 2023 urged the country's military rulers to end forced labour in the army and to halt all violence against trade unionists. The resolution adopted Thursday at the ILO's 113th International Labour Conference in Geneva said Myanmar's military authorities had not indicated 'any sign of meaningful acknowledgement' of the 2023 report's recommendations. Myanmar said it had been 'actively implementing' the recommendations and had made 'continuous progress' and accused the ILO of 'turning a blind eye' to its efforts. The International Trade Union Confederation – Asia Pacific said it was the third time in the ILO's century-long history that Article 33 has been invoked. Royal warning on haj travel scams

His Royal Highness said it was especially disheartening that those exploiting the situation were Muslims themselves, who were willing to deceive their fellow believers for personal gain. Sultan Sharafuddin decreed that stern action be taken against any individual or travel agency offering haj packages that take advantage of and deceive Muslims. The Ruler said this in a post on the Selangor Royal Office's Facebook page, in which His Royal Highness and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, extended Hari Raya Aidiladha greetings to Muslims across Malaysia. His Royal Highness also called on Muslims to uphold the sanctity of the haj by ensuring that all arrangements are made through licensed and recognised agents and companies authorised by the authorities to manage haj and umrah affairs, Bernama reported. At the same time, Their Royal Highnesses prayed that Malaysian pilgrims would be granted a mabrur haj and return home safely. According to the statement, the Sultan and the Tengku Permaisuri also hoped that this Aidiladha would inspire all Muslims to be grateful for Allah's blessings and to perform the sacrificial rites to help the poor, as well as reflect on the plight of the less fortunate. Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin performed the solat sunat Aidiladha with more than 10,000 congregants at Masjid Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in Shah Alam yesterday. Immigration Department denies issuing viral statement on Korban meat distribution
KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 — The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has denied issuing any statement regarding guidelines for the distribution of 'Qurban' (sacrificial) meat at mosques in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration. JIM Deputy Director-General (Management) Ismail Mokhtar said the department was aware of the statement, dated June 5, 2025, that had gone viral. 'For the record, the statement is false and has never been issued by JIM,' he said in a statement here today. He also advised the public to always refer to the department's official channels for accurate and authentic information. 'JIM takes the dissemination of false information seriously, especially when it can lead to public confusion. Any unauthorised use of the department's official emblem and name is an offence and may be subject to legal action,' he added. The fake statement, dated June 5, 2025, that went viral, used the name of Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban. Among the things claimed in the statement was that only foreign nationals with valid work permits and visas, or those with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards, were allowed to receive Qurban meat at mosques. It also said that illegal immigrants who collected the meat would face immediate action. — Bernama
