Meerut man kills pregnant wife, surrenders before police
According to police, Ravishankar visited his in-laws' house on Saturday morning, where Sapna had been staying for the Teej festival. He reportedly convinced her to close her eyes under the pretext of placing a locket around her neck and then allegedly slit her throat before stabbing her multiple times.
Soon after the incident, Ravishankar called the police control room and said, 'I have killed my wife. Her dead body is at home. Come and take it.' When police arrived, they found the house locked from the inside. Upon breaking the door, they discovered Ravishankar sitting beside Sapna's body, with a blood-stained knife nearby.
Circle officer (CO) Sadar Shiv Pratap confirmed Ravishankar's arrest. 'During initial questioning, the accused said he entered while Sarita was outside washing clothes, then went upstairs and killed his wife,' the CO said.
Police said Sapna had lost her parents 18 years ago and had been raised by her elder sister Sarita and brother-in-law Munna, who also arranged her marriage earlier this year on January 23. She had come to their Amheda home seven days ago for the festival.
Ravishankar, the accused, who runs a general store in Kinha Nagar under Bhavanpur police station limits, called Munna earlier in the day to check if he would be home. After confirming he would be away, Ravishankar contacted Sapna, citing a bad dream as the reason for his visit. He reached the house around 9 am.
Munna, who had raised Sapna since childhood, expressed disbelief. 'I treated her like my daughter. Ravishankar called in the morning, saying he was coming. I cannot believe he did this,' he said.
Police are yet to determine the exact motive. Initial investigation suggests possible jealousy or suspicion of an affair. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and further inquiries are ongoing.

Two held with illegal liquor worth Rs 24K
Indore: Dewas police on Saturday arrested two persons and seized 54 litre of illicit country liquor worth Rs 24,000 and a two-wheeler valued at around Rs 50,000 in Nemawar area. CM flying team seizes 8.55 quintals of adulterated mawa in Hisar
HISAR: The CM Flying team on Sunday morning raided two houses in Dhani Shyam Lal , uncovering an illegal operation producing adulterated mawa (khoya). The team recovered 8.55 quintals of contaminated mawa stored in unhygienic conditions. The adulterated product, bought from Rajasthan at Rs 130 per kg, was being sold in Hisar for Rs 180 per kg. During the raid, officials apprehended Mahavir Singh, a resident of Kawalsar village in Rajasthan's Churu district. In his presence, 675 kg of mawa was seized, much of it kept in dirty, foul-smelling water inside freezers. Mahavir admitted that the mawa was fake and was regularly supplied to prominent sweet shops in Hisar, including all outlets of Bikaner Sweets, as well as shops in Barwala and Uklana. Investigators found that during Rakshabandhan and Teej , about 35 quintals of such adulterated mawa were supplied from this facility. Mawa worth Rs 500 per kg in the market was being sold to shops for just Rs 150 per kg. ‘Come & pick up the body': Man calls cops after murdering pregnant wife
Meerut: In a chilling case from Meerut, a 28-year-old man brutally murdered his seven-month pregnant wife and then called the police to inform them of the crime. "I've killed my wife. Come and pick up the body," Ravi Shankar told officers over the phone on Saturday morning. Sapna (24) had been living with her sister in Amhera village under Ganganagar police station limits, following an argument with Ravi recently. On Saturday, he called her, saying he had a disturbing dream and wanted to meet. When he reached the house and found her alone, he attacked her with a knife, stabbing her multiple times in the face, stomach, and head. When police arrived, they found Ravi, who worked as a labourer, sitting next to his wife's blood-soaked body. He was arrested on the spot, and the body was sent for autopsy. The couple had been married for just eight months. While the exact motive is still under investigation, police suspect the murder may have stemmed from suspicions of an extramarital affair. Officers are also probing reports of frequent quarrels between the two. "We've yet to receive a formal complaint from the woman's family. Preliminary findings suggest the accused may have suspected his wife of having a relationship with a close relative, but it's too early to conclude," said SP (rural) Rakesh Mishra.
