EXPERTS have revealed the golden dose of Mounjaro that helps shift the most weight - and it's not the highest one.
Weight loss jab users tend to start on lower doses and gradually increase them as their body adjusts, to a maximum of 15mg.

Many assume that anything under the maximum won't be "enough" to produce results.
But analysis of patients taking the jab found that most - 86 per cent - lost significant amounts of weight at 10mg or lower.
In fact, some of the best outcomes were seen at doses of 7.5mg, rather than the maximum 15mg.
Patients on this dose - just 5mg above the starter amount of 2.5mg - had the highest average weight loss.
Kiran Jones, clinical pharmacist at Oxford Online Pharmacy, said: 'This study reinforces that healthy, sustainable weight loss is possible without excessive pressure or maximal dosing."
The analysis is based on anonymised data from 100 patients who
were prescribed Mounjaro with Oxford Online Pharmacy.
The data was collected in April 2025 and patients who were at various points in their treatment rather than all starting at the same time, as would happen for a study in a clinical setting.
Researchers collected information such as patients' current dose, their starting body mass index (BMI) and the percentage of body weight lost.
All the patients included in the audit got started on the recommended starting dose of 2.5mg.
"Starting low helps the body adjust gradually to the medication and minimises early side effects," the report authors explained.

Just over half - 51- of the patients were taking 5mg of Mounjaro at the time.
Meanwhile, eight people were on 7.5mg, 27 people were on 10mg, one on 12.5mg and 13 on 15mg.
Patients in the analysis lost up to 39kg.
"Our audit showed that healthy, sustainable weight loss occurred at all Mounjaro dose levels," the report authors said.
"There was a general trend of greater weight loss at higher doses, mirroring what has been found in clinical trials.
"However, in our audit, the upward dose-dependent trend was not
perfectly linear."
This means that people on the highest doses didn't necessarily lose the most weight.
The 7.5mg group had the highest average weight loss, followed by
15mg.
What to do if you lose too much weight too quickly whilst on Mounjaro
IF you're losing too much weight too quickly while on Mounjaro, it's important to take action to avoid potential health risks like muscle loss, malnutrition, dehydration, and fatigue. Here's what you can do:
Evaluate Your Caloric Intake
Mounjaro reduces appetite, which can make it easy to eat too little. If you're losing weight too fast (more than two to three lbs per week after the initial adjustment period), try: Tracking your food intake to ensure you're eating enough calories (apps like MyFitnessPal can help).
Increasing protein intake to preserve muscle mass (aim for 0.6–1g per pound of body weight).
Adding healthy fats and complex carbs (e.g., avocados, nuts, whole grains) for balanced energy.
Adjust Your Dosage (With Doctor's Approval)
If your weight loss is too rapid or causing side effects, your doctor may: Pause dose increases or lower your dosage.
Adjust your treatment plan to stabilise your weight loss.
Strength Training & Exercise
To prevent muscle loss: Incorporate resistance training at least two to three times per week.
Stay active with low-impact exercises like walking or yoga.
Hydrate & Manage Electrolytes Drink enough water (Mounjaro can reduce thirst).
Electrolytes matter - Consider adding magnesium, sodium, and potassium if you feel weak or fatigued.
Monitor for Malnutrition & Deficiencies
Rapid weight loss can cause vitamin/mineral deficiencies (especially B12, iron, and electrolytes). If you experience: Fatigue, hair loss, or dizziness, ask your doctor about supplements.
Consider Further Medical Guidance
If your weight loss is excessive or causing health concerns, speak with your healthcare provider.
They might adjust your dosage, diet, or exercise plan to help stabilise your weight loss.
"At first glance, this might suggest that 7.5mg is more effective than the highest dose," researchers explained.
"However, while some patients on 7.5mg achieved greater
weight loss than those on higher doses, others lost far less.
"This variability highlights the highly individual response to Mounjaro.
Outcomes are shaped not just by dose, but by lifestyle, health status, adherence, and other personal factors."
Researchers noted that that smaller group sizes for some dosage amounts - just eight patients on 7.5mg and 13 on 15mg - make the results sensitive to outliers.
This means that if someone lost much more weight than others in the same group, this could be skewing the averages worked out by the report authors.
"A larger dataset would help smooth these fluctuations and better reflect true trends," they said.
"Still, the fact that peak average weight loss occurred at a lower dose is meaningful.
"It reinforces that the maximum dose isn't required to see
meaningful results."
The BMI patients started at did seem to influence weight loss results.
Those with a BMI over 40 when they started taking the jabs were more likely to shed over 20 per cent of their body weight.
"Patients with higher BMIs who achieved greater weight loss were more likely to be on higher doses of 10mg or more, but this was not always the case," the researchers said.
"Some patients achieved significant results at moderate doses
like 5mg or 7.5mg, reinforcing that dose alone doesn't determine
success and that response to Mounjaro is highly individual."
The study authors noted that they couldn't draw conclusions about how quickly patients were able to shed pounds on Mounjaro, as they didn't collect data on overall treatment duration, starting date, or how quickly people upped their dose.
They also advised caution in interpreting the results, especially for the higher dose groups that had fewer people in them.
Is it normal to be hungry on the jabs?
A common misconception among jab users is that they shouldn't feel any hunger at all while taking them.
This can lead to unnecessary concerns about whether their current dose is working, especially when they're taking lower doses.
One of the ways GLP-1 medications like Mounjaro work is by calming
hunger signals in the brain, helping patients feel satisfied with smaller portions.
But they do not and should not eliminate hunger
altogether.
"Hunger is the body's way of signalling it needs fuel, and
even patients on higher doses like 12.5mg or 15mg should feel hunger
at times," the report authors noted.
Kiran added: 'People think these medicines switch off hunger completely, but that's not how they work.
"Being able to eat is normal. Success looks different for everyone, and often, the biggest wins are quiet ones: more energy, less breathlessness, and better sleep.
'Becoming healthier without extreme diets or private clinics is a powerful example of what good, regulated care can achieve. Patients need safety, not pressure.'

'Although well-intentioned, the current traffic light system fails to clearly inform consumers of the health risks associated with ultra-processed foods. 'The system is based on manufacturer-designed portion sizes which are so unrealistic they border on fantasy. When did you last eat just half a biscuit or a single square of chocolate? 'Chile's approach is simple and effective. The introduction of stark black warning labels on foods high in sugar, salt, calories and saturated fat has reduced sales of harmful foods, improved public awareness, and contributed towards a drop in childhood obesity. 'I would expect a similar model in Britain to reflect these results.' Since Chile's policy was introduced, purchases of sugary foods were reportedly cut by as much as 25 per cent. Sales of ultra-processed foods with the labels in school kiosks dropped from 90 per cent to 15 per cent within six months of the law's introduction. Britain currently leads Europe in ultra-processed food consumption, with these products making up over 50 per cent of all food purchases. Steve added: 'Obesity not only increases the risk of heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes and several other diseases, but it also places huge pressure on the NHS and the UK economy. 'Changing our food labelling system and limiting sales of UPFs is a vital step towards tackling this spiralling obesity crisis. 'Addressing the root of the issue is far more effective in the long-term. We shouldn't simply be relying on weight loss jabs to solve the obesity epidemic. Mounjaro is almost tripling in price – here's what it means for you

Its amazing results have been hailed by Jeremy Clarkson, Whoopi Goldberg and The Telegraph 's own Allison Pearson, but from next month, the popular weight-loss drug Mounjaro could become inaccessible to many people across the UK. The wholesale price of the medication is set to shoot up by 170 per cent from September 1, with the highest dose (15mg) increasing from £122 per month to £330. Mounjaro (also known as tirzepatide) is an injectable drug made from a synthetic 'analogue' of the two molecules GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (gastric inhibitory polypeptide). These hormones, which are also produced naturally in the brain, regulate appetite and insulin production. 'The main effect of the hormones in Mounjaro is to tell you that you are 'full',' says Prof Ketan Dhatariya, a consultant in diabetes, endocrinology and general medicine at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. 'Imagine you've been invited to a friend's house for dinner, and the food isn't ready yet, so you fill up on Twiglets and Pringles. But when the meal is served, you are no longer hungry and you can't eat a thing.' Patients can get the medication through an NHS prescription, or more commonly from a private provider such as Boots, MedExpress or Pharmacy2U. Why is the price increasing? American pharmaceutical companies have faced pressure from Donald Trump to make drugs more affordable by offsetting higher prices to other countries, including the UK. Until now, UK providers have paid significantly lower wholesale prices than other European countries, meaning patients have been able to pay a reduced monthly fee. What will the price change be and when will it come into effect? Pharmacies in the UK currently pay between £92 and £122 for the drug, depending on the price. From September 1, a 2.5mg dose will cost £133, and the higher doses, 12.5mg and 15mg, will cost £330. Some companies, such as Pharmacy2U, have confirmed that their retail prices will freeze for the foreseeable future. Boots has confirmed that its prices will change but that it will do its best to keep them fair and accessible. Why do costs vary? Costs will vary depending on the provider and the dose. There are six strengths of Mounjaro: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg. The higher the dose, the more expensive the monthly cost. How do the price rises in the UK compare with Europe and the United States? In the UK, the highest dose of Mounjaro currently costs £122. In the US, the same dose costs roughly $1,000 (£743) without insurance. Inish Pharmacy, Ireland's leading online pharmacy, charges €289 (£250) for 2.5mg of Mounjaro and the higher doses of 7.5mg and 10mg cost €465 (£402). In Spain, patients can expect to pay an average of €271 (£235) per month and in France, a 5mg dose costs around €250 (£217). Eli Lilly, the US manufacturer of Mounjaro, originally set lower prices in the UK to avoid long supply delays, ease waiting-list pressures and compete with other GLP-1 medications. I'm on Mounjaro. What should I do next? It will depend on how you get your medication. If you get your prescription through the NHS, you are likely to be unaffected. Eli Lilly has agreed a separate supply arrangement with the NHS, which ensures that prices will remain stable. If you receive your medication through a private provider, you could speak with it directly to see whether it is offering discounts. Alternatively, you could switch to a provider with lower costs, such as Pharmacy2U. If you're thinking about switching to a cheaper medication entirely, Wegovy and Rybelsus are also available in the UK, as well as Ozempic – a type 2 diabetes medication that is prescribed off-label for weight loss. How can I get Mounjaro for free? The NHS offers Mounjaro for those who need it as part of their primary care. In order to qualify, you would need to have​ a body mass index (BMI) of 40 (or 37.5 for ethnic minorities) or above, and at least four weight-linked health conditions such as: Type 2 diabetes High blood pressure Heart disease Abnormal cholesterol or blood fats Obstructive sleep apnoea (a sleep-related breathing problem) In June 2026, it will expand to include people with a BMI of 35 to 39.9 who have four of the conditions listed above. In April 2027, it will also be offered to people with a BMI of 40 and above who have just three out of the five conditions. How can I find a reputable provider? The recent update has caused concern among some GPs that patients unable to afford the new prices may turn to the black market for the drug out of desperation.​ Patients should ensure that any potential Mounjaro provider is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council or the Care Quality Commission. They can also check customer satisfaction through sites such as Trustpilot. Pharmacies attached to high-street companies such as Boots, Asda, Lloyds Pharmacy and Superdrug can typically be trusted. What are some of the alternatives to Mounjaro? Ozempic In the UK, Ozempic is licensed only as a type 2 diabetes treatment. It is possible to find a private doctor who is willing to prescribe Ozempic for weight loss outside of licensed conditions, but NHS doctors cannot. Because of this, it is recommended that patients use Wegovy instead, as it uses the same active ingredient (semaglutide). Private providers may charge between £150 and £180 for the lowest dose (0.25mg) to £165-£180 for the highest dose (1mg). Wegovy Wegovy is a version of Ozempic that can be prescribed for weight loss. The dosing of Wegovy is more clinically suitable for weight loss and ranges between £118.98 for the lowest dose (0.25mg) and £188.98 for the highest (2.4mg). It is seen as a safer, more effective option than Ozempic. Rybelsus Rybelsus is a tablet GLP-1 medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. Like Ozempic, it is not licensed for weight loss but it also contains semaglutide and can sometimes be prescribed 'off-label'. Rybelsus can be prescribed for free by the NHS, or off-label prescriptions can be purchased from private doctors and pharmacies for between £150 and £400, depending on the number of tablets. Can I order multiple pens now so I don't have to buy them after the price rise? Reorders depend on the provider. Boots is allowing patients to purchase up to three pens in advance before September 1. Some pharmacies such as Lloyds Pharmacy are selling medication only to existing customers, and allowing only one reorder per patient. Can I stay on Mounjaro for ever? Yes, you can use Mounjaro in the long term, says Dr Kaywaan Khan, a GP and weight loss and wellbeing specialist at Hannah London. Some people 'will take the medication for ever because they not only have obesity as a chronic disease, but they [have conditions such as] heart disease or diabetes, so taking this medication is part of their core health treatment and preventative health care', Dr Khan adds. Can I switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy? You should not take Mounjaro and Wegovy at the same time. If you decide to switch, you should wait at least a week before taking the new medication. You should also increase your dose gradually.

Limit screen time Try to turn off screens at before bedtime - ideally at least an hour before. Blue light from electronics like TVs, tablets and phones can interfere with melatonin production, which is the hormone that aids in sleep. Do relaxing activities before bed Encouraging activities like reading a book, listening to calming music or having a warm bath is good for getting read to sleep. It helps children's bodies wind down for the day, rather than keeping them active. Avoid Caffeine and Sugar Parents should watch out for caffeinated drinks or sugary snacks that they give to their children in the afternoon or evening. These foods and drinks make it harder for the body to fall asleep. Keep the cool room and have fresh air It is important to have a well-ventilated, slightly cool room ideally around 16 - 20 degrees celsius. This can be done by opening a window if it is safe to do so.
