Former Princess Mako Gives Birth to First Baby
Mako is the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko, and the niece of Emperor Naruhito. She has two younger siblings, Princess Kako and Prince Hisahito. According to Yoshida, they are delighted by the news and wish her family continued happiness. In 2021, Mako married Kei Komuro, a former college classmate and a commoner, thereby relinquishing her royal status as required by Japan's Imperial House Law. The couple later moved to New York, where Kei Komuro now works as a lawyer.

'Dream come true': Calgary coffee roaster guides baristas to victory on world stage

Article content For the signature beverage, contestants add ingredients not normally brewed with coffee — such as fermented fruits — to bring out different flavours. Article content 'People go to pretty extreme lengths of figuring out ingredients that work well with the coffee, because you're also judged on the creativity,' Crosby said. Article content Ito said, 'I'm going to be bringing a unique perspective from Japan.' Article content Omotenashi, a Japanese hospitality concept of fulfilling guests' needs selflessly, will be central to his presentation. Article content 'It's like a hospitality and storytelling of coffee . . . and sharing with coffee with other people,' Ito added. Article content However, the routine, including the type of coffee he plans to use and other ingredients, will be kept under wraps until the competition. Article content Article content For Rosso, participating in these events goes beyond the trophies piling up at the Calgary roaster. Article content 'When we first started participating, I think it was more a sense of belonging and learning from like-minded people in the industry,' Torode said. 'It's a great structure to learn the craft of coffee.' Article content Having been involved in competitions since 2010, as they improved, they continued to compete. Article content 'It's still a pathway for growth, both professionally and personally. We learn many different skills through participation,' Torode added. Article content Knowledge from the competitions is distilled into training baristas at Rosso's five cafes in Calgary.

But Awan mines the awkwardness of her youth, the teenage angst and the insecurity of her childhood for her new one-woman show about acceptance and belonging. She finds comedy in the awkwardness, discovering Purple Rain at a likely too-young age, visiting Egypt only to find out her first name is a joke to the locals, living with a massive family that at times just doesn't get her life. It's a fun and entertaining one-hour comedy set from an expressive and vibrant performer. The show is a little rough around the edges, but this is brand new material.
