According to the State, Ngcobo was home alone on May 28, 2024, studying for her exams when the men entered her home and robbed and murdered her.
Ngcobo's body was gagged and bound in her home in uMlazi. Bhengu and Jali are charged with housebreaking with intent to steal, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and murder.
During the cross-examination of Mondli Ngcobo, the father of the school girl, advocate Vicky Nattar put it to him that Bhengu denied all the crimes he is alleged to have committed.

'It is my instructions that Jali drives a Toyota Avanza and he uses it to commute school children. He is popular and well-known among schoolchildren. On the day of the incident he (Jali) insisted that he used his charm to enter your (Ngcobo) premises,' Nattar put it to Ngcobo.
Ngcobo asked Nattar how he was supposed to answer that. After a short break, Nattar put the version of his client Bhengu.
Bhengu said he went to uMlazi at midnight on 28 May, and he met with Jali and his friend Bruino and they asked him for money. Bhengu bought them food.
He said Jali wanted to stay with him because he was intoxicated from smoking crystal methamphetamine.
Bhengu said at that time he smoked Mandrax. Additionally, Jali borrowed money from Bhengu because he wanted to repair the tires of his Avanza. However, Bhengu said he did not lend him money because he was renovating his two houses.

'Jali decided to make a plan on the morning of May 28. He waited for the father (Ngcobo) and the younger sister to leave,' Bhengu added.
He said he told Jali that there was another sister in the house. Bhengu said Jali was desperate for the money and he did not listen to him. He said he watched him while he stood from the water meter of his property in uMlazi.
'I don't know how he gained access to the house, but he was there for 15 to 20 minutes," he said.
He said Jali came back with a cellphone that he bought from him for R300 as he knew it was stolen. Bhengu said Jali wanted him to make a plan for the TV that he had stolen, and he did by calling his friend Sticks. He said the three of them and another unknown male took the television from Ngcobo's home and went to sell it at Russell Street in Durban to a foreigner for R3000. He said Jali paid for petrol for the car and gave him R400. 'At this point, I didn't know that he had murdered the girl,' he said.
He said afterwards they went to the U section at uMlazi and that is when Jali told him that he killed the girl.
Judge Garth Harrison asked Nattar for clarity on the version he had put. He asked where the portion about Jali boasting to use his charms to gain access to Ngcobo's home fitted into this new version of events. Nattar tried to explain it.
'I want you to take an instruction and you tell me,' said Judge Harrison.
Bhengu confirmed his version. Last week Jali had told the court that he was intoxicated and that Bhengu was the one who entered the Ngcobo household while he was at Bhengu's home.
The gallery in this case is always full of church members, ANC members, and community members. During the proceedings, Judge Harrison has had to warn the gallery to not interfere with the trial as they would make noise.

So far, he has told the court that on the fateful day, he and his friends Linda Khuzwayo, Sandile Sambo, Njabulo Dlamini, and Sanele Merase, travelled in a Toyota Quantum to Tees Tavern in Phoenix to purchase cocaine. He said they passed through a number of roadblocks to get to Tees. According to him, they used cocaine with his friends when they were drinking alcohol so that they would not fall asleep. After purchasing the cocaine and getting ready to leave, he said they were blocked by a white Ranger bakkie and a crowd, which also came in cars and on foot. The crowd told them to get out of the taxi. He said that after they refused to sit on the ground after getting off the taxi, the driver of the bakkie fired a firearm, and they all ran away in different directions. However, Dlamini remained in the car as he was sleeping. After running away and finding himself back to where the Quantum was parked, Madlala told the court that he was forced to get inside the taxi, which was burning. He said that upon refusal, he was assaulted, adding that Sambo was also assaulted with golf clubs, baseball bats, sticks, and sjamboks. He said that at that moment, he also saw about three males dragging Dlamini, who was not moving. 'They placed him near the taxi at the rear wheel,' he said. Madlala said the assault was intense at this stage despite his cries asking for an apology. He said both Dlamini and Sambo were not moving during this time. He stated that this assault lasted for approximately 45 minutes. Afterwards, each one of them was placed with three pallets, and a liquid believed to be diesel or petrol was poured over them.

Bodies fed to pigs: Accused walks free to testify in Limpopo double murder trial

Image: NPA The State has officially withdrawn charges against farm supervisor Rudolph De Wet, accused number two in the murder case involving the deaths of two women whose bodies were allegedly fed to pigs on a farm near Polokwane last year. Zachariah Olivier, 62, a farmer, and his employees, Rodulph De Wet, 20, and William Musora, 48, allegedly shot and killed Maria Makgato and Kudzai Ndlovu in Sebayeng, outside Polokwane, in August 2024. The victims were reportedly searching for food on the farm when they were attacked. The State alleges that after the women were murdered and their bodies were fed to pigs in an attempt to destroy evidence. The decomposed remains were discovered in a pig enclosure later that month. The three men appeared at the Polokwane High Court on Thursday. Olivier is accused number one, De Wet number two, and Musora number three. According to Limpopo National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, the charges against De Wet have been provisionally withdrawn after he turned state witness under Section 204 of the Criminal Procedure Act. 'Accused number two (De Wet) has turned to be a state witness under Section 204, which means that his charges have been withdrawn for now and he's going to testify,' Malabi-Dzhangi said. The defence for accused number one, Olivier, has requested a postponement to conduct its investigation following De Wet's decision to testify against his co-accused. The trial, which began on Monday, has been postponed and is scheduled to resume from October 6 to 17, 2025. The accused are facing charges of murder, attempted murder, for allegedly shooting at Ndlovu's husband during the incident - possession of an unlicensed firearm, and obstructing justice. Musora, a Zimbabwean national, faces an additional charge under the Immigration Act for allegedly being in the country illegally. De Wet, who was working as a supervisor on Olivier's farm at the time of the murders, testified this week that Olivier was the one who shot and killed the two women. IOL News previously reported that Mametlwe Sebei, president of the General Industries Workers Union of South Africa (Giwusa), said the union welcomes the start of the trial, despite the unjustifiable delays that have deepened the pain for the victims' families and farmworkers across the country. He further stated that the horrific crime, killing impoverished Black individuals scavenging for food and leaving their bodies for pigs to consume like refuse, exemplifies the ongoing dehumanisation faced by farmworkers. Sebei said the reflects a persistent system of white terror and severe exploitation still prevalent on farms. He emphasised that they are calling for the trial, along with a harsh sentence, to send a clear message that such brutality will not be tolerated in a democratic South Africa. Sebei warned that the case reveals ongoing failures to protect and support farmworkers in rural areas, who remain isolated and vulnerable due to weak government oversight, poor access to unions, and a legacy of exploitation. He stressed the need to address these issues to prevent future abuses. 'Many farmers operate as feudal lords, believing oversight won't reach them. There is a need to send a message and create conditions where this cannot be. 'The case also epitomises how racialised, exploitative labour practices persist 30 years into democracy. Although in this case the victims might not have been workers, the reign of terror they have fallen victim to directly points to the door of this parasitic system of primitive slavery,' he said. Passion in the dock: Accused share a kiss before dropping bail bid

Stacey Lee Hector, Wade van Reenen, Kyle Francis, Igshaan Abrahams and Courtney Nortjie returned to the dock at the Atlantis Magistrates Court on Thursday. The court heard that images of the accused were allowed to be taken before proceedings started. This was the first time that the court ever had an application brought by the media to have photos taken of an accused. As they entered the dock Abrahams and Nortjie were seen in a moment of passion. This after they allegedly lured killed Pather and burned his body. The five accused were expected to apply for the bid for bail and the State intended to oppose their applications. However they opted to remain in custody. The court further heard that the case was postponed for further investigation. Pather, from Durban, disappeared on July 13 and it is alleged that he booked an appointment with "sex worker" Hector in Table View. His phone was turned off after he left his residence in Richwood, Table View. However, following the search into his whereabouts, police officials said that Pather's body was discovered burned beyond recognition on July 14 in Melkbosstrand at the back of a bakkie that was stolen in Goodwood between 12 July and 13.
