Former Johor Mufti Nooh Gadot Named Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1447H

KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) -- Former Johor Mufti Datuk Dr Nooh Gadot has been named the recipient of the National Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M award.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, presented the award, which includes a cash prize, a trophy and a certificate of appreciation, to the prominent Islamic scholar at the national-level Maal Hijrah Celebration held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here today.
Nooh, 79, was born in Kampung Tekam, Pogoh in Segamat and currently serves as Adviser to the Johor Islamic Religious Council.
He served as Johor Mufti from 1999 to 2002 and was appointed in 2008 as the Religious Adviser to the then Sultan of Johor, the late Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail.
A holder of a PhD in Human Development from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Nooh has received several accolades, including the Johor Tokoh Maal Hijrah 2009 award and the National Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1434H/2013M award.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Nooh expressed his gratitude for the honour.
'May this recognition motivate me to continue serving the ummah and upholding the syiar of Islam,' he said.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia Minister of Haj and Umrah, Dr Tawfig Fawzan Muhammed Al-Rabiah, 60, was named the recipient of the International Tokoh Maal Hijrah award. He also received a cash prize, a trophy and a certificate.
Dr Tawfig has played a pivotal role in modernising pilgrimage services through digital initiatives and international cooperation, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 agenda.

Most Sabah, Sarawak Education And Health Demands Agreed At MA63 Technical Meeting
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Most of the demands concerning education and healthcare in Sabah and Sarawak have been agreed upon at the Technical Committee meeting of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63), chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today. Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said the meeting was crucial as preparation for the MTPMA63 Meeting No. 1/2025, which will be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Kuching on Sept 12. On education, he said agreements reached included state governments' involvement in the planning of education development projects, information sharing on the transfer of senior officers and allocation of funds for professional development programmes. 'As for healthcare, the meeting agreed to several demands, including increased allocations for operating and development expenditure, granting certain autonomous powers to State Health Directors, and strengthening human resources at the Health Departments of Sabah and Sarawak,' he said in a statement today. Fadillah added that other pending matters will continue to be discussed under the Joint Action Committee on Education and Health Development for Sabah and Sarawak, under the purview of the Education Ministry (MoE) and Health Ministry (MoH). In today's meeting, two briefing papers were also presented by the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department (BHEUU, JPM) and the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES), which will be brought to the upcoming MTPMA63 meeting in Kuching for decision. 'Other unresolved demands will continue to be monitored by the Technical Committee under MTPMA63 as well as relevant ministerial-level working committees,' he said. The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Federal Government, Sabah and Sarawak, including several ministers, deputy ministers and senior officials. -- BERNAMA

Unity Ministry Seeks RM250 Mln Under Budget 2026 For Five Initiatives
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The National Unity Ministry (KPN) is seeking a RM250 million allocation under Budget 2026 to implement five initiatives aimed at strengthening community harmony and empowering communities. Its minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the Unity and National Identity initiative involves an allocation of RM100 million to implement the Flagship Kembara Perpaduan programme to strengthen the nation-building agenda. 'The Community Harmony and Well-being initiative, with an allocation of RM100 million, aims for a more progressive Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) by revitalising the Voluntary Patrol Scheme, empowering Community Mediators, and implementing the MADANI Harmony Initiative. "Under the 'Ini Warisan Kita' (This is Our Heritage) initiative, an allocation of RM10 million is for the acquisition of historical materials and national heritage treasures to be preserved and inherited by future generations, while the 'Transformasi Pendigitalan' (Digitalisation Transformation) initiative, with an allocation of RM20 million, is for the digitalisation of national heritage treasures including museums, archives, and libraries to make them more accessible to the public," he said in his speech during the ministry's Budget 2026 dialogue session here today. He said that the fifth initiative, Conducive Unity Premises, with an allocation of RM20 million, aims to improve the facilities and amenities of agencies under the KPN for the well-being of the people. "Last year, the allocation we requested was RM290 million, but we only received RM90 million. For next year, we are requesting RM250 million, and we hope it will be considered because there are many more activities we want to carry out," he said. In a similar development, Aaron also hopes that the Finance Ministry and the Inland Revenue Board will consider providing tax exemption incentives to companies that contribute directly to unity programmes or activities at the community level. "We know that in Malaysia, there are many large companies that can help us provide funds for activities, but these companies, no matter how much money they give, will claim tax relief under social responsibility," he also said. Today's dialogue session involved government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), KRT, associations, and students from institutions of higher learning (IPTs) to discuss needs, suggestions, and priorities related to the Budget 2026.
