Former Johor Mufti Nooh Gadot Named Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1447H

KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 (Bernama) -- Former Johor Mufti Datuk Dr Nooh Gadot has been named the recipient of the National Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025M award.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, presented the award, which includes a cash prize, a trophy and a certificate of appreciation, to the prominent Islamic scholar at the national-level Maal Hijrah Celebration held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here today.
Nooh, 79, was born in Kampung Tekam, Pogoh in Segamat and currently serves as Adviser to the Johor Islamic Religious Council.
He served as Johor Mufti from 1999 to 2002 and was appointed in 2008 as the Religious Adviser to the then Sultan of Johor, the late Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail.
A holder of a PhD in Human Development from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, Nooh has received several accolades, including the Johor Tokoh Maal Hijrah 2009 award and the National Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1434H/2013M award.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Nooh expressed his gratitude for the honour.
'May this recognition motivate me to continue serving the ummah and upholding the syiar of Islam,' he said.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia Minister of Haj and Umrah, Dr Tawfig Fawzan Muhammed Al-Rabiah, 60, was named the recipient of the International Tokoh Maal Hijrah award. He also received a cash prize, a trophy and a certificate.
Dr Tawfig has played a pivotal role in modernising pilgrimage services through digital initiatives and international cooperation, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 agenda.

'Israel would have killed Iran's Khamenei if given opportunity'
JERUSALEM: Defence Minister Israel Katz told media that Israel would have killed Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during the war between the two countries if the opportunity had presented itself. "If he had been in our sights, we would have taken him out," Katz told Israel's public radio station Kan yesterday evening, adding that the military had "searched a lot". "Khamenei understood this, went very deep underground, broke off contact with the commanders... so in the end it wasn't realistic," Katz told Kan. He told Israeli television Channel 13 yesterday that Israel would cease its assassination attempts because "there is a difference between before the ceasefire and after the ceasefire". Katz had said during the war that Khamenei "can no longer be allowed to exist", just days after reports that Washington vetoed Israeli plans to assassinate him. But on Kan, Katz advised Khamenei to remain inside a bunker. The movements of the supreme leader, who has not left Iran since he took power, are subject to the tightest security and secrecy. Katz said yesterday that Israel maintained its aerial superiority over Iran and that it was ready to strike again. "We won't let Iran develop nuclear weapons and threaten (Israel) with long-range missiles," he said. In his Channel 12 interview, Katz admitted that Israel does not know the location of all of Iran's enriched uranium, but that its airstrikes had destroyed the Islamic republic's uranium enrichment capabilities. "The material itself was not something that was supposed to be neutralised," he said of the enriched uranium. The impact of Israeli and US strikes on Iran's nuclear programme has been a subject to debate. A leaked US intelligence assessment estimated the programme to have set Iran back a few months, while Katz and other Israeli and US public figures said the damage would take years to rebuild. Israel and Iran each claimed victory in a 12-day war that ended with a ceasefire on June 24. The war erupted on June 13 when Israel launched a bombing campaign that it said aimed to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon -- an ambition Iran has consistently denied.

Kota MADANI development gives civil servants greater housing access
PUTRAJAYA: The Kota MADANI initiative in Precinct 19, the development of a smart city that is friendly to the people and the environment, has been welcomed by various levels of society, especially those serving in the federal government's administrative centre. What's more, the initiative has also been appreciated by civil servants from the Indian community who moved from rural areas to Putrajaya and experienced difficulty in obtaining rented housing in a short period of time. Putrajaya Indian Civil Servants Association (IMAIYAM) chairman Dr Sathiskumar K. Muthusamy said most Indian civil servants have stated that they often face problems obtaining housing, at exorbitant costs for house or room rental. 'As they are not able to find quarters, they are forced to rent outside at expensive rates. Some also complain that they are often victims of social problems when trying to obtain rented accommodation. '(So) This government move is very timely and we (IMAIYAM) really appreciate it. It is not just providing a place to live but also giving hope to many civil servants to live comfortably and peacefully under one roof in Kota MADANI,' he told Bernama when contacted today. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday (June 26) officiated the Kota MADANI development project worth RM4 billion in Precinct 19, which will be developed by Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd (PjH) through a public-private partnership model based on the concept of build, lease, maintain and transfer (BLMT), without involving government allocations at the initial stage. Kota MADANI will have 10,000 units of high-intensity residential quarters capable of accommodating more than 30,000 residents, vertical schools and various public facilities. Assistant Director of the Research and Program Planning Division of the Community Communication Department K. Yuvarany said the development of the quarters was highly anticipated as she is also facing expensive rent even for one room in Cyberjaya. 'My room rent is RM550, and the parking rental rate is RM70 per month. The cost of transportation to and from Putrajaya and sometimes there are outside assignments, and the cost of food could reach more than RM1,400 including other expenses,' she said. Yuvarany who applied for government quarters in Putrajaya in November 2024 is now placed on the waiting list and hopes that her application will be accepted as soon as possible. 'However, I admit the waiting list is quite long. When I applied, the waiting list was over 4,000 but so far the number of applicants who have passed the waiting list has only reached over 3,000 this year. If this running number is quite slow, I think it will be inconvenient for individuals who really need quarters or those who are facing financial problems. 'Maybe the process needs to be expedited by contacting the applicants themselves and questioning them on their quarters needs so that they don't have to wait long,' she said. Meanwhile, Muhammad Aliff Asyraf Ab Aziz, who is working at the Ministry of Communications, said the construction of the new quarters is seen as an added value for officers in Putrajaya. 'I once applied for quarters in Kuala Lumpur when I was working there before but failed. Now I have my own residence but not everyone is lucky enough to have their own home, especially since the cost of living is increasing,' he said. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa yesterday reported that the Kota MADANI development project is expected to provide cost of living savings of up to RM1,000 per month for civil servants. She said that through the project, civil servants can live in the quarters provided at a minimum cost, with a deduction of housing allowance and cost of living allowance (COLA) which is only around RM400 per month. The actual need for quarters in Putrajaya is 35,000 units but only 22,000 units have been available for over 20 years and that number has not increased. There are now 17,000 applications on the waiting list.

Sabah Governor urges Muslims to foster unity and strengthen knowledge
KOTA KINABALU: Tun Musa Aman has called upon Muslims to strengthen their knowledge in Islam and to build unity instead of discord. The Sabah Governor also urged Muslims to continuously upgrade themselves in terms of knowledge, education, technology, thoughts and in every aspect of their lives. He also said religious institutions, education and the media should help increase awareness on the importance of creating a community with the right values. 'The responsibility also lies with each individual to become agents of change and to embrace and practise justice, tolerance and appreciation for one another in life,' he said during the state-level Maal Hijrah celebrations at the Sabah International Convention Centre here on Friday (June 27). Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and other dignitaries.
