49 Maharashtra police personnel to receive Gallantry and Service Medals today
The three officers receiving Medals for Distinguished Service are the inspector general of police Anil Dashrathrao Kumbhare, commissioner of police Navinchnaadra Datta Reddy, and assistant commissioner of police Rajendrasingh Prabhisinh Gaor.
The seven personnel receiving Gallantry Medals include assistant police inspector Netaji Sukhdev Bandgar, assistant police sub-inspector Manohar Kotla Mahaka, head constable Manohar Lachma Pendam, police constables Prakash Ishwar Kannake, Atul Satyanarayan Yegolpawar, Hidayat Saddulla Khan and Late Suresh Lingaji Telami (posthumous).
The uniformed personnel include officers from the state and central police force, prison services, fire brigades and the home guards across the country. Out of the 1090 medals being honoured today, 233 will be receiving Gallantry Medals, 99 will be awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 758 will receive the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).
Out of the 99 personnel receiving the President's Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), 89 are from the Police Force, five from the Fire Brigade, three from the Civil Defence & Home Guard Services and two from the Correctional Service.
Out of 758 Medals for Meritorious Service, 635 are from the Police Force, 51 from Fire Services, 41 from the Civil Defence & Home Guard Service, and 31 from the Correctional Service.

Calling on citizens to contribute to nation-building, UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria Friday said: 'Let us build an India not just of tall buildings but of noble ideals — an India where development is inclusive, and where every citizen works with commitment and love for the nation's progress.' Kataria, who was the chief guest during the 79th Independence Day celebrations at Parade Ground, Sector 17, highlighted the key achievements of Chandigarh's development, law enforcement, education, governance, environment, and health infrastructure. He spoke about the successful rollout of the new criminal justice system, power sector reforms, and initiatives such as free uniforms, recruitment of teachers, and the enhancement of school facilities. Kataria praised Chandigarh's environmental efforts, including rooftop solar expansion and a floating solar plant in Sector 39, while also noting progress in e-governance, public safety, sanitation, and digital services. The Administrator's Police Medal was awarded to 24 Chandigarh Police personnel, while three officers received the President's Police Medal for their distinguished services. To mark the occasion, the Administrator declared Monday, August 18, as a holiday for all government, government-aided, and private schools in Chandigarh. The event was attended by Rajeev Verma, Chief Secretary of Chandigarh; Sagar Preet Hooda, Director General of Police; and other senior officials of the administration and police.

New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh has set goals for the force emphasizing on three important aspects including Atmanirbharta, Use of Technology and Healthy Competition, highlighting these points from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech delivered at the Red Fort on 79th Independence Day. He said that the force must implement the three important points swiftly and in a mission mode across the force. Singh also urged the force personnel, suggesting they must be more people friendly and have 'Sewa Bhav' to earn the trust of the public, enabling them to approach police without any hesitation in case of need. During his address to the force personnel on the occasion of Independence Day, the Delhi Police chief asked all the units to work on the aspect of 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance), and come up with a proposal within 15 days time. The aim is to make Delhi Police self-reliant on many fronts to stop dependence on others for things like commandos, bomb disposal squads, wireless sets and other things. Speaking on the use of technology, CP Delhi added that, although the force has always been making best use of technology, and is quite ahead on this front, however, still there is a need to go further. He stressed that whether it is a matter of surveillance, preventing cybercrime, the ability to fight terrorists, the use of technology is required in every field.
