Sarah Jessica Parker's mid-interview confession causes outrage

News.com.aua day ago

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker dropped a confession in a new interview so surprising that it left even shock jock Howard Stern lost for words.
The Sex and the City star appeared on Stern's podcast to publicise the recently-launched third season of And Just Like That, a sequel of sorts to SATC.
No surprises that Stern wanted to discuss one controversial scene in particular that aired during And Just Like That' s season three premiere: SJP's character Carrie's awkward attempt at phone sex with long-distance boyfriend Aidan (John Corbett).
The scene unfolds in semi-graphic detail – something that left some longtime SATC fans shocked.
'He's having phone sex with you, he's about to, y'know, play with himself – and he licks his hand,' Stern began.
'He takes his tongue and he starts licking his hand, and he plays with his penis …'
Parker interjected during Stern's X-rated description to ask, 'I'm sorry, what?'
But she wasn't just playing coy for laughs. As Parker went on to explain, she's barely watched any of And Just Like That across its three seasons to date – or much of Sex and the City, for that matter.
'I've not seen that [scene]; I can't comment on it,' she told Stern. 'I have no knowledge. I haven't seen most of Sex and the City, ever, and I haven't seen And Just Like That. So I don't know, this is the first I'm hearing of that.'
Parker confessed And Just Like That co-creator Michael Patrick King would regularly ask her to watch specific episodes – an instruction she's apparently ignored.
A visibly stunned Stern called Parker's confession 'crazy' – and many agreed, particularly given Parker is not just the star of the show, but also one of its executive producers, a job that usually entails being across every aspect of a project from beginning to end.
The Stern interview also came as part of a PR blitz that has seen Parker and her co-stars submit to dozens of interviews to talk up the new season – apparently, at least in Parker's case, without having watched any of it.
The clip drew an incredulous reaction when popular Sex and the City podcasters Every Outfit shared it on their Instagram account, where they called Parker's blasé revelation 'truly shocking.'
'SHE IS AN EXECUTIVE PRODUCER? HOW IS THIS ALLOWED?!' asked another popular SATC fan account, @samanthajonespr.
'If she's not watching … why are we?' another fan asked.
Others suggested Parker needs to watch the rebooted show so she can grasp 'how truly bad' it is.
Those behind And Just Like That 's official Instagram account tried to weigh in to calm the outrage, commenting that Parker was 'so Carrie with this reply' – a quip that was quickly shouted down as fans told them to 'read the room.'
Parker also revealed her cluelessness about the show in another recent interview with the Guardian, revealing that she had no idea there had been a strong viewer reaction against one character.
Actor Sara Ramirez played Che Diaz, a stand-up comedian and self-described 'queer non-binary Mexican-Irish diva' who served as a love interest for Miranda. The character was quietly dropped from the show after season two amid ongoing fan backlash.
Not that Parker knew about it.
'A friend of mine brought it up to me, and it's like: 'What are you talking about?' And he said: 'Yeah, there's all this conversation,'' Parker told The Guardian.
'I've been an actor for 50 years, and I've almost never paid attention to peripheral chatter.'

Naomi Watts' daughter reveals struggles with her identity

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber's trans daughter, Kai, always had a vision for her future. 'I want to be a supermodel. Period,' Kai, 16, said in a Q&A with Interview Magazine published Wednesday when asked to share her dream career. 'I've been practising my walks in the kitchen for years; my mum can show you all the videos I forced her to film,' she continued. 'Struggling with gender identity from a young age most likely had something to do with it.' The teenager added, 'I always wanted to grow up and be a beautiful, glamorous, influential woman, like Marilyn.' Kai also told Interview that she looks up to 'the older generation of transgender people.' 'People like Alex Consani, Hunter Schafer, Hari Nef, Dara, Richie Shazam, Colin Jones, and so many more,' she said, listing her fashion role models. 'It's so great that there's a strong community of us in the fashion world; it's really a doll takeover.' Kai, who is the second child of Watts and Schreiber, made her runway debut for Valentino at Paris Fashion Week in March. The following month, the model appeared in the fashion brand's chic pre-fall campaign — with her mum celebrating the achievement on social media. 'Congratulations @kaischreiberrr — so exciting!! ï¸,' the King Kong actress, 56, gushed on Instagram, adding, 'Beaming with pride.' Last month, Schreiber discussed Kai's transgender identity publicly for the first time in an interview with Variety. 'Kai was always who Kai is,' the Perfect Couple actor, 57, told the outlet. 'But I suppose the most profound moment was her asking us to change her pronouns,' he explained. 'To be honest with you, it didn't feel like that big of a deal to me only because Kai had been so feminine for so long.' He described his fashionable daughter as being 'as feisty and outspoken as they come.' 'Kai is such a fighter,' he added. 'It's important that she goes, 'Hey, I am trans,' and, 'Look at me.'' Schreiber and Watts began their relationship in 2005 — welcoming son Sasha in 2007 followed by Kai in 2008. The former couple split in 2016 after 11 years together, but they've continued to amicably co-parent their children. The blended family came together for Sasha's graduation last week, with Watts' husband, Billy Crudup, and Schreiber's wife, Taylor Neisen, in attendance. This story originally appeared on Page Six

Bryce Dallas Howard gets brutally honest about her most notorious move flops: ‘You always know'

Hollywood star Bryce Dallas Howard has opened up about some of her most notorious box office flops. Despite starring in the likes of Twilight and Jurrasic Park, Howard has also starred in projects that became some of their respective years' biggest bombs. She starred in Lady in the Water from director M. Night Shyamalan, which failed to recoup its $154m budget, as well as notorious flop Argylle, which cost over $300m to make but didn't manage to even hit $150m at the box office. 'You can always see it coming while you're making it,' Howard recently told The Independent about her movie flops. 'I've never been shocked when something doesn't work. But I'm just an actor – you're there to serve a director's vision. If a movie doesn't turn out the way that you envisioned, you can barely feel disappointed because it's not yours. You're not the person who's building the thing.' Howard said in comparison, she has seen her father, the Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard, break down emotionally when one of his films doesn't do well. 'It blows him away that I don't do that,' she said. She went on to recall a story her father told her about Clint Eastwood back in the day. When her dad's 1992 film Far and Away with Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise flopped spectacularly at the box office, he turned to Eastwood for some sage advice. 'He said, 'Ronnie – a career is like a season of television. You've got 24 episodes, some of the episodes are going to be bad, some are going to be serviceable, maybe a little forgettable, and maybe five of those episodes are going to be really strong and last,'' Howard said. Argylle, from filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, starred the likes of Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa, but their combined starpower failed to help make the film a hit. In an interview with Empire last year, Vaughn confessed that he genuinely believed the movie was going to be a big success after test screenings ended positively. 'F**k yeah,' Vaughn said when asked if the disappointing reviews from critics were a difficult read for him. 'We had done test screenings that had gone fantastically well. The premiere was a really fun night, and it was like going back to the 'Snatch' days where there was such excitement. And I started drinking the Kool-Aid. It's a fun, feel-good movie, or I thought it was a fun, feel-good movie. We didn't make 'Citizen Kane,' but f**king hell, then the reviews came out and I'm like, 'Wait, what have I done to offend these people?' They were vitriolic. I'm not saying the movie's perfect by any means, but I didn't think it was offensive. That took me by surprise.'
