JATSO seeking citizens' input about future transportation projects
JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin Area Transportation Study Organization (JATSO) is updating the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) with the launch of an online survey.
As the transportation planning agency for the Joplin metropolitan area, JATSO's goal is to provide regional mobility. The MTP helps guide the agency with long-range planning on how to improve the transportation system.
Every five years the MTP must be updated. Now, JATSO has released a survey to address safety perceptions, specific problem areas, and suggestions for improvement, the organization said.
The public can access the transportation survey here.
Public open houses will also be hosted in Joplin, Webb City, and Carl Junction, where community members can provide input for the regional transportation system. These open houses will include maps and graphics with detailed information about the project.

New Lenox Augustinian Sisters reflect on their time with Robert Prevost
In his first official appointment, Pope Leo named a woman to head a major Vatican office. Sister Simona Brambilla is now the prefect of the department responsible for all the Catholic Church's religious orders. Nuns at the Augustinian Nuns Monastery in New Lenox celebrated the appointment and their new Holy Father. Bob Prevost was a frequent visitor to the monastery as an adult. Ninety-year-old Sister Carmen Miravalles and 87-year-old Sister Mary of Good Counsel Villar met the pope in 1969 at St. Augustine Seminary High School. Special Section: Pope Leo 'We've known him for many, many years,' Sister Miravalles said. 'We love him.''I remember he was very kind, also very special,' Sister Mary of Good Counsel Villar Augustinian order asked the women to move from Spain to provide the seminarians with an example of a contemplative life.'Our life was dedicated to prayer,' Sister Mary of Good Counsel Villar said. Young Bob Prevost often showed his appreciation to the sisters.'He would come with baskets of apples for the sisters and (was) very helpful, very easy to help us in anything that we needed,' Sister Miravalles said. When Prevost was elected pope, it was evidence of the power of prayer over a lifetime.'I know he will be a very good pontiff because the whole time he has been like our brother,' Sister Mary of Good Counsel Villar said. Former Senator Jim Carlin announces candidacy for 2026 race
IOWA (KCAU) — Jim Carlin, a former Iowa Senator, has announced his candidacy for the 2026 Senate Race. Carlin served as a lawmaker from 2017 to 2022. In his announcement, Carlin points a finger at Joni Ernst, indicating she hasn't followed through with her promises. 'Iowans deserve a voice in Washington D.C. who actually listens to them and representsthem – not big donors and special interests. More than that, Iowans deservesomeone who genuinely cares about them and will work to make their lives better. Thereare enough self-serving establishment politicians in Washington. President Donald needs America First allies, not adversaries,' Carlin stated in a release. Senator Ernst has a proven record of conservative leadership—cutting waste, securing the border, and making Washington squeal to keep Iowans' hard-earned money in their own pockets. And she delivers for our families, farmers, and veterans. Iowans already saw through Carlin's last failed campaign, and they'll reject his desperate attempt at relevance again in 2026.' Pasadena bear ‘Cinnamon' makes splash in return from January fires
A bear known to residents in the Upper Hastings Ranch area of Pasadena as 'Cinnamon' made her first appearance since the deadly Eaton Fire in January by taking a dip in a resident's pool on Wednesday. 'The mountain is directly across the street from us and as you know the fire in January devastated so much,' said resident Ramona Mucciolo. Mucciolo says there were several bears that frequented her neighborhood for years but she and her neighbors had not seen any of them since the massive fire, until yesterday. 'Cinnamon (yes we name them) showed up,' said Mucciolo, whose video shows the large bear swimming around in her backyard pool on a sunny afternoon. Mucciolo said Cinnamon seemed peaceful and knew to stay safe in the shallow end of the pool, but mostly she was just happy to see one of the bears return. 'It was a big deal here since all of us who live here have been wondering if the bears survived,' she said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
