JAC warns of stir over pay revision, promotion delay in Puducherry power department
At the heart of the grievance lies the non-implementation of revised Recruitment Rules (RR) across various cadres in the department. Despite redesignation of posts, over 2,000 employees continue to be denied promotions and corresponding pay hikes, a JAC spokesperson said. Numerous posts remain vacant, while promotions due years ago are yet to materialise.
A key demand is the immediate approval of salary revisions recommended under the Fifth Pay Commission for 67 posts, which were deferred following the advice of a one-member committee. Though the Seventh Central Pay Commission had advised the Puducherry government to resolve the matter administratively, no step has been taken so far, union leaders pointed out.
The JAC further highlighted that revised pay scales were implemented in practice, with employees paid accordingly from revenue collected from power consumers over the past 15 years. Hence, union representatives argued that financial constraints cannot be cited as a reason for delaying formalisation of the revision.
While welcoming the move to recruit 73 Junior Engineers, the committee condemned the government for proceeding with direct appointments without formally amending recruitment rules, terming it "illegal and unjust".
In a meeting held on June 19, all affiliated unions resolved to besiege the offices of the Electricity Secretary and Head of Department on July 3 if their primary demand—approval of the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations—is not met within a week.

Kapu JAC announces phased fight for BC status
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh Kapu Joint Action Committee (JAC), led by President Chandu Janardhan, announced a phased movement to address the concerns of Kapu, Balija, Telaga, Ontari, Turpu Kapu, and Munnuru Kapu communities, including their demand for exclusive Backward Classes (BC) reservations. During a meeting in Vijayawada on Sunday, attended by 325 leaders, union representatives, and influential members from various sectors, the JAC passed 12 key resolutions outlining their demands. The JAC also demanded naming a prominent bridge in Krishna district after the late Vangaveeti Mohan Ranga, officially declaring Krishna Devaraya Jayanti, and allocating Rs 3,000 crore annually to the Kapu Corporation. Further demands emphasised completing Kapu Bhavan constructions, increasing Kapu representation in political and nominated posts, and appointing Kapu personnel in key roles within the police and revenue departments. Other resolutions passed during the meeting included resolving issues of Munnuru Kapu families from seven merged mandals post-bifurcation, providing 40% MSME subsidies for women of Kapu, Telaga, Balija, and Ontari communities, granting five acres for Kapu Bhavan in Amaravati, and installing statues of freedom fighter Kanneganti Hanumanthu and Krishna Devaraya in the capital.

ESMA invoked, Karnataka bans transport strike until Dec 31
BENGALURU: The Karnataka government has invoked the Karnataka Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), 2013, to prohibit strikes by employees of the state's four road transport corporations from July 1 to December 31. The order comes at a time when the Joint Action Committee of the KSRTC has announced an indefinite strike from August 5, if their demands are not met. The fresh order follows an earlier notification dated December 21, 2024, which had banned strikes from January 1 to June 30, 2025. The new extension now prohibits any form of strike in the state transport corporations for another six months, up to December 31. The order effectively blocks any industrial action or work stoppage by transport employees during the protest. Indefinite hunger strike The Federation of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporations has announced an indefinite hunger protest from July 29, at Freedom Park in Bengaluru and in front of DCs officer in all districts in the state. The protest is being organised to demand the fulfilment of demands that include implementation of equal pay under the 7th Pay Commission from January 1, 2024, payment of 38 months' arrears from January 1, 2020, announcement of labour union elections, and withdrawal of cases filed against employees and their families during the 2020 and 2021 strikes.
