Amid rising security concerns RPF of NF Railway enhances vigilance, recovers firearms
Guwahati (Assam) [India], May 9 (ANI): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of North Frontier Railway (NFR) has significantly strengthened its security protocols at stations, trains, and railway premises amid the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
With an increased focus on passenger safety in the current national security environment, these measures are designed to address threats such as child trafficking, human trafficking, drug incidents, stone pelting and other untoward events.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway, said that, RPF, in close collaboration with railway authorities, is actively enhancing security and surveillance across the entire network.
This includes coordinated joint patrolling with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and local law enforcement agencies to ensure a secure environment at railway stations and along track routes.
'As part of its intensified security efforts, NFR has successfully conducted coordinated mock drills at important railway stations in collaboration with district administrations. These drills, which included air siren alerts and blackout protocols, were aimed at testing and enhancing emergency response preparedness. In line with its commitment to passenger safety, NFR has reinforced women's security by deploying strengthened Anti-Crime Patrol (ACP) units and dedicated women's security teams. Anti-Trafficking Operations have also been intensified to curb illegal activities and safeguard the dignity and security of all travellers,' Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said.
He further said that, in a recent incident, on May 8, while carrying out routine duties on Tripura Sundari Express, RPF of NFR displayed exceptional vigilance. During an empty general coach inspection, they found two unclaimed bags on the upper berth.
Upon investigation, the bags contained eight pistols and 16 magazines. RPF team immediately secured the firearms and transferred them to the RPF Post at Agartala for further legal action.
Later that day, the Director General (Intelligence), Tripura, visited Agartala Railway Station to review the incident and the successful seizure. During the inspection, the DG personally appreciated RPF Jawans Anjan Pal and Ashim Aich for their quick and effective action in ensuring railway security.
'NFR remains fully dedicated to enhancing the safety and security of passengers and railway assets. Continuous improvements are being made to strengthen security measures in response to evolving challenges. The RPF, with unwavering diligence and a deep commitment to public safety, consistently takes proactive steps to ensure a secure and reliable railway environment for all travellers,' Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said in a statement. London: Branding Pakistan as a "failed state", UK MP Bob Blackman on Tuesday launched a scathing attack at India's neighbour, questioning if either "democracy or generals" was in charge of Pakistan, referring to the country's unchecked military influence in its governance. Speaking to ANI following a meeting with the all-party delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad in London, the UK MP urged the international community to stand with India in its fight against terrorism while blisteringly critiquing Pakistan for its encouragement of terrorism in sovereign Indian territory and its illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. He further slammed the nation for fostering a breeding ground for terror that undermines regional peace and stability, while calling for the reunification of Jammu and Kashmir under India as intended in 1947. "Pakistan is a failed state. We don't have democracy in Pakistan. We have the people of parts of Pakistan, who are suffering under Pakistani military rule. So who's in charge? Is it the democracy or the Generals? And it's quite clear that terrorism is encouraged from Pakistan into sovereign India," Mr Blackman stated. "And so we've got to make sure we have to call out the message that the illegal occupation of part of India in Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan should end. Those troops should leave, and the whole of Jammu and Kashmir should be united as one principal state, as was intended back in 1947. And then we can lead to the eradication of terrorism and make sure that the people of that great state can celebrate the beauty of the valley," he added. Mr Blackman further raised critical concerns over Pakistan's use of international aid money, questioning whether funds meant for the country's development were being diverted to purchase Chinese weapons for terrorism against India. He also expressed the UK's condolences and support for India's anti-terrorism actions, emphasising India's desire for peace and questioning Pakistan's misuse of aid for military purposes, advocating for its use in health initiatives like polio eradication. "We had a meeting and it's great to see the delegation from all parts of India... Everyone from the United Kingdom expresses their condolences and support for the people of India who've suffered this terrorist outrage... India wants peace and tranquillity between the two," Mr Blackman stated. "The money that's sent to Pakistan, what is it used for? What it shouldn't be used for is buying Chinese weapons that would then enable terrorists to attack India, and I take a very strong view that our international aid money that should go to Pakistan should be going for the eradication of polio and other infectious diseases that benefit the people of Pakistan rather than it being used illicitly for military purposes," he added. The BJP MP-led all-party delegation earlier held a meeting with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG)-India, which Blackman was a member of. During the meeting, the UK MPs affirmed the country's solidarity with India in isolating Pakistan and enhancing security cooperation. Key figures like House of Lords MP Lord Karan Bilimoria and former member of the UK Parliament Shailesh Vara also expressed unanimous cross-party support in the UK for India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, alongside discussions on deepening India-UK ties in trade, security, and education, despite last-minute camera restrictions leading to phone recordings.

Indian envoy to Egypt calls Operation Sindoor delegation ‘crucial' to tackle Pakistani misinformation
As an all-party delegation led by NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule visited Egypt, Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K Reddy called it a "crucial visit" and said the delegation played an important role in countering misinformation spread by Pakistan. Speaking to ANI, Reddy said, "In the age of social media and information overload, it is important that correct information is shared with everybody. This delegation was crucial to dispel the misinformation spread by Pakistan. It would help to convey the right message, so countries can ask Pakistan the right questions." He added that the visit reflected the strength of India's democracy, as it helped communicate the public sentiment following recent terror attacks. "This was an essential visit because it reflects the strength of our democracy. It helped to convey the outrage and the sentiments of the people of India. This was communicated well and also received well by Egypt," Reddy said. He added, "They (delegation) had very good engagement with the leaders of Egypt. They met the Leader of the House (Upper House of the Senate) and many distinguished Senators. After it, they had a meeting with the House of Representatives, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and other members. Their exchanges were very productive. They understood our position and strongly condemned the terrorism. They specifically stated that terrorism cannot be accepted in any form. There is no justification for terrorism." The Ambassador also mentioned that the delegation had interactions with opinion makers and the Indian community in Egypt. "This was later followed by interaction with the opinion makers... we exchanged many views. This was later followed by the vibrant Indian community in Egypt was grateful that the delegation came here and explained the situation in India to them. They shared their outrage with the members of the delegation," he said. Earlier on Tuesday, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule, who is leading the all-party delegation to Egypt, said that the group held a constructive meeting with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. He reassured them that India and Egypt need to work together in peace, trade, and culture, as the two nations are uniquely placed. While interacting with local leaders, opinion makers, and think tanks in Cairo, Sule expressed gratitude to Egyptian leadership for standing firmly with India during the challenging and painful time and expressed his commitment to peace. He said that India launched Operation Sindoor under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She said that PM Modi sent seven groups of parliamentary delegations to several nations. The delegation, led by Supriya Sule, includes Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, V Muraleedharan and Syed Akbaruddin. The Supriya Sule-led parliamentary delegation also paid a floral tribute to Indian soldiers at the Heliopolis War Memorial, who laid their lives in World War I and World War II. The delegation aims to brief international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism while engaging with leaders in key countries.

Judge rules in favour of Justin Baldoni as Blake Livelys emotional distress case faces setback
Washington [US], June 4 (ANI): In a dramatic development in the legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, a federal judge has ruled in favour of Baldoni, dismissing Lively's claims of emotional distress in their ongoing lawsuit. This decision, which could have significant implications for the future of the case, comes just ahead of the trial set to begin in March 2025, as per Deadline. The lawsuit, which centres around the making of the film 'It Ends with Us', includes a series of allegations from Lively against Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios. Lively had initially sought to include emotional distress claims in the lawsuit, but recently moved to withdraw these claims. However, Judge Lewis J. Liman of the Southern District of New York shut down Lively's request on Tuesday, ruling that the claims would not be dismissed without prejudice unless both parties agreed to the terms. In a succinct order, Judge Liman wrote, "The motion to compel ... is denied based on Plaintiff's representation that the relevant claims will be withdrawn." According to Deadline, he further clarified that Lively's request to have the claims dismissed was denied "without prejudice to renewal," meaning that Lively's legal team would need to file a formal motion for dismissal if they wish to proceed with that course of action. The judge's ruling added further weight to the situation by stating that if Lively's emotional distress claims are not dismissed, she would be precluded from presenting any evidence related to emotional distress in the case. "For avoidance of doubt, if the claims are not dismissed, the Court will preclude Lively from offering any evidence of emotional distress," Judge Liman stated, as quoted by Deadline. Lively's legal team, led by attorneys Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, responded to the ruling with a statement expressing their disappointment with the outcome. As per Deadline, they emphasised that Lively was still pursuing emotional distress damages through other claims in the lawsuit, including allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation. "The court denied Wayfarer's motion," said Lively's lawyers in their statement, adding, "He told the parties to continue their discussions about the technicalities of how two of the 15 claims will be voluntarily dismissed. Ms Lively has offered to dismiss those claims because they are no longer necessary, and she will continue to pursue emotional distress damages through other claims in her lawsuit." The lawyers also accused Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios of retaliatory tactics, arguing that these actions could expose them to significant legal and financial repercussions under California law. "This is exactly where both parties were before the Baldoni-Wayfarer Parties rushed to file this utterly pointless motion to compel, all searching for yet another press moment," they added, as quoted by Deadline. The case between Lively and Baldoni began making headlines in December 2024 when Lively filed a formal complaint accusing Baldoni and his associates of sexual harassment and retaliation. The complaint, filed with the California Civil Rights Department, was followed by a defamation and extortion lawsuit from Baldoni against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their public relations team. As the legal conflict unfolded, the situation grew more complex, with multiple lawsuits filed on both sides. Lively's legal battles have included accusations of mistreatment during the production of 'It Ends with Us', a film that was marketed as addressing serious themes of domestic violence. The film did well at the box office, but reports of tension during its press tour and premiere quickly surfaced. Despite the ongoing drama, sources close to the case have made it clear that a settlement is unlikely. Both Lively and Baldoni have expressed their intention to fight the matter out in court, and the case now involves high-profile figures, including Lively's famous husband and Hollywood powerhouses such as Taylor Swift, Disney, and Marvel, all of whom have been drawn into the legal web. With the trial scheduled to begin on March 9, 2025, the case between Lively and Baldoni is expected to intensify in the coming months.
