Spoiler alert! We're dishing on those gasp-inducing moments in the new Apple movie 'Echo Valley.' If you haven't watched yet, do so before you read on.
If you've watched 'Echo Valley,' you know Julianne Moore is one bad mother.
In the winding thriller (streaming now on Apple TV+), Moore portrays Kate Garretson, a woman struggling to make it through the day, shouldering the recent loss of her wife and expenses of her farm (named Echo Valley) that are piling high. Kate's also trying to balance loving her daughter, Claire (Sydney Sweeney), who has a substance use disorder, without enabling her.

Add to that Kate is now being threatened by dangerous dealer Jackie Lawson (Domhnall Gleeson) after Claire accidentally tossed his stash of drugs. (Claire, mad at her cheating boyfriend Ryan Sinclair, threw out his things, with Jackie's supply among them.)
'He's just somebody who is always looking for a victim,' Gleeson says of Jackie. 'He has an amazing spidey sense for people he can take advantage of, and I think he enjoys that.'
In an effort to cover his debt to Jackie, Ryan (Edmund Donovan) begins dealing and adds fentanyl to the drugs to stretch them. Tragically, one customer overdoses. Claire runs to her mom for help covering up the death, telling Kate the body is Ryan's and that she killed him in self-defense.
Kate, a prisoner of her unconditional love, takes the body that is wrapped from head to toe, and sinks it in a local lake. She's stunned when she learns that the body isn't Ryan's, and Jackie returns to Echo Valley to take advantage of her vulnerability. He holds her hostage on the farm, demanding she pay him money to keep her dark secret.
Kate tells Jackie she's broke but can give him insurance money if they burn down her barn and make it look like an accident. But it's all a masterful ruse: Kate recovers the body from the lake and puts it in the barn, sets the fire with a flare and leaves evidence behind indicating arson. Since Jackie was staying in the barn, the cops suspect him.

Viewers see that Kate's 'not operating at full strength when we meet her, because she's in the midst of grief and her daughter is in this terrible place," says Gleeson. "What Jackie senses is a victim, somebody he can manipulate and work and get what he wants from. He underestimates her.'
And those who tune in likely won't see Kate's plan coming, Gleeson says. 'There's something kind of amazing about the notion of underestimating someone and then the price you can pay for that.'
In the final moments of the film, Claire arrives at Kate's doorstep with tears in her eyes. Neither speaks, and the screen fades to black leaving the viewer with a slew of unanswered questions: Is Claire clean? Does Kate let Claire inside? What happens next?
'I don't have a clue,' Gleeson says. 'We don't know, and that's what makes it meaningful. We all hoped for one thing, and we worry it'll be the other. And that's the same as being alive. We're all hoping things will go a certain way and are worried it won't.'

Its latest, "Snow White," has been mired in controversy since its announcement, and unfortunately, the film doesn't offer much to overshadow that noise. To its credit, it's more watchable than some of the other Disney remakes, and there are a few new songs added into the mix for fans of the original. Those curious about all the chatter can now check out "Snow White" on Disney Plus from the comfort of their own couch. Rachel Zegler takes on the role of the titular princess, who is banished from her kingdom by her ruthless stepmother, played by Gal Gadot. To reclaim her rightful place on the throne, she teams up with a group of magical beings and a bandit leader (Andrew Burnap) to challenge the evil Queen and restore peace to the realm. Their new gig spirals out of control faster than you can say "zip, zap, zop!" While its action sequences aren't all that exciting, the sharp writing and hilarious performances in "Deep Cover" offer plenty of laughs. Orlando Bloom, in particular, is a hoot as a "serious" actor overly committed to the role of playing the group's muscle, come hell or high water. Watch it now on Prime Video Legendary James Bond director Martin Campbell returns with a "Die Hard"-style action thriller led by "Star Wars" actress Daisy Ridley. Though it wears its inspiration on its sleeve, "Cleaner" still delivers a fast-paced and entertaining ride with plenty of nerve-jangling aerial stunts to keep you on the edge of your seat. "Cleaner" kicks off when a group of radical activists storm an energy company's annual gala, taking 300 hostages in a bold attempt to expose corporate corruption. Fortunately for the guests trapped inside, an ex-soldier turned window cleaner (Ridley) just happens to be on the scene, albeit suspended 50 floors up, when the chaos erupts. Channeling her inner Bruce Willis, she springs into action in a desperate fight to save the day. Watch it now on Max One of my favorite Gerard Butler movies, "Plane," just arrived on Netflix, and it's already crash-landed in the streamer's top 10 list. In this high-octane action thriller, Butler stars as commercial airline pilot Brodie Torrance, who's hoping to wrap up one last flight before reuniting with his daughter. But when a violent storm strikes mid-flight and a lightning bolt knocks out the plane's avionics, Torrance is forced to make an emergency landing. Though he gets the plane down safely, he realizes too late that it's on the remote, pirate-controlled Jolo Islands. Stranded and surrounded by danger, he has to team up with a fugitive passenger (Mike Colter) to outwit local warlords and keep the survivors alive long enough for help to arrive. People deletes Olivia Munn story after Ms. Rachel comments draw 'threats'
In a rare move, People magazine deleted a story from its website on Wednesday after it triggered 'violent' threats against its subject, the actress Olivia Munn, and her family. The story was about Munn's distaste for children's television and bore a headline specifically citing the popular YouTuber Ms. Rachel — which apparently triggered some fans. 'There is no excuse for these abhorrent attacks, and we will always prioritize safety above all else,' the publication acknowledged in a statement explaining the decision to remove a story. It's an unusual move for any news outlet to delete, rather than amend or update, a story — even People, which is generally considered a friendly go-to outlet for celebrities to share their stories. When asked for further information about removing the article, a People representative pointed back to its original statement. The post was drawn from the magazine's recent interview with Munn for a cover story, which published online June 4. The 44-year-old actress, who was promoting her new Apple TV+ series, talked about life with her husband, 42-year-old comedian John Mulaney, their children — a 3-year-old boy and 8-month-old girl — as well as her 2023 breast cancer diagnosis. People also published several separate exclusive items using material from the Munn interview, including one in which she discussed her fertility treatments, and another post headlined, 'Olivia Munn Doesn't Let Her Kids Watch Ms. Rachel. Here's Why.' In the story, according to sites that repeated quotes from it before it was deleted, Munn shared her irritation with children's TV programming. She specifically cited Ms. Rachel, a major celebrity to young children and their parents. 'I know kids love [Ms. Rachel], but the thing is, if I can't watch it, I'm not going to spend the rest of my life going crazy,' Munn said, and added she was not a fan of 'Blue's Clues' or 'Spider-Man' either. (She did admit a tolerance for 'Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood,' because it helped her son prepare for the arrival of a baby sister.) However, the framing of the People headline drew attention on social media, especially given that Ms. Rachel, whose full name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, has been in the news for speaking out about the plight of children in Gaza — though it's unclear if this topic was even addressed in the People story. All of this was surely heightened by the strong feelings many fans harbor about Mulaney and Munn's relationship, and its timing relative to his divorce from an artist, Anna Marie Tendler, with her own significant social media following. Various publications and social media accounts started regurgitating Munn's comments, and Accurso herself expressed disappointment when she left a comment on People's Instagram post, now disappeared as well: 'WHO CARES?! I'd rather you cover me advocating for kids in Gaza who are literally starving, largest cohort of child amputees in modern history, thousands & thousands killed — no medical care, no education, no homes… do better!!!' Accurso wrote, according to multiple reports. 'Not against [Munn] at all and don't care that she doesn't want to watch the show — all my love to her and her family — disappointed in the outlets.' Later, she wrote on her own Instagram account that she and Munn had spoken and were on good terms. 'Please be kind to Olivia & her precious family,' Accurso wrote. 'I don't believe in hate, attacks or hurtful comments.' Munn also criticized the coverage. 'To Ms Rachel and your fans, I hear and respect the passion behind your support. I never anticipated the media would single out one small thing I said and distort it like they have,' she wrote in an Instagram story earlier this week. 'Every parent understands the importance of finding meaningful programming that helps us connect with our kids. I don't want something taken out of context to be a moment that steals even a minute of joy for anyone.' Mulaney weighed in Wednesday, calling for a stop to the 'violent and threatening' comments that Munn had been receiving in online comments and direct messages. 'An innocent comment my wife Olivia Munn made about what children's programs we like has somehow — unbelievably — been conflated with not caring about the deaths of children in Gaza,' he posted on Instagram. 'The people doing this are so wildly out of line and so unhelpful to any conversation. You took a nothing comment to a dark and dangerous place. This kind of behavior isn't activism.' Accurso has been creating educational children's content on YouTube, where she has more than 15.2 million subscribers, since 2019. With the help of silly and cheerful music, Ms. Rachel teaches children how to spell and use the bathroom, while also offering lessons on emotional support. Outside of her YouTube show, Accurso has been outspoken about Gaza, which led to backlash from right-wing media commentators and StopAntisemitism, a prominent pro-Israel group, which called on the U.S. attorney general to investigate the children's entertainer. (Accurso said earlier this month that she stands against 'all forms of hate.') But, Accurso told WBUR, 'I wouldn't be Ms. Rachel if I didn't deeply care about all kids. And I would risk everything, and I will risk my career over and over to stand up for them.'

AMC Says New NCM Preshow Ads Don't 'Negatively Influence Moviegoing Habits'
Word got out today that the No. 1 exhibition circuit, AMC Theatres, will start running more advertising during their pre-shows beginning July 1. Why is this a big deal? Bigger than the taxation of trade routes? Because AMC close to six years ago said it wouldn't partake in National CineMedia's new ad spots. At the time, AMC believed more ads would make moviegoers mad. Other rivals are already running longer ads during their pre-shows. Exhibition can't survive on film rentals alone. Essentially, AMC has hammered a deal with National CineMedia Inc. to run the spots during each movie's pre-shows. National CineMedia is the ad network in major circuits. There's a 'platinum spot' that will be shown on screens just prior to a movie's start. AMC will reportedly get a cut of the ad sales. Said an AMC spokesperson, 'For the past five years, AMC has sought out crucial revenue that is not reliant on the increase of base ticket prices. We've done this through more and better moviegoing enhancements like our significant expansion of PLFs, a greater selection of food and beverage offerings, and the introduction of movie-going merchandise like popcorn buckets and other collectable concession vessels. During that same time, others in our industry have taken in revenue through their partnership with NCM, via these so-called Platinum Spots.' They added, 'While AMC was initially reluctant to bring this to our theatres, our competitors have fully participated for more than five years without any direct impact to their attendance. This is a strong indication that this NCM preshow initiative does not negatively influence moviegoing habits. Our participation delivers us vital revenue as we continue on our recovery path and allows us to continue offering significant value on ticket prices through initiatives like Discount Tuesday, 20% off matinee pricing, and the upcoming 50% off Wednesday ticketing program.'
