My hot weather fashion hack? Flowy pants.
If you're in your 40s or 50s, there are plenty of flattering dresses I've found that are perfect for summer 2025. But if you're not so into dresses (or shorts), I'll let you in on a little fashion hack: wear flowy pants. They're lightweight, cooling and super versatile, making them a great option for everything from days at the office to afternoons spent chasing your kids at the park.
On a recent trip to the mall, I checked out 10 stores and tried on loose, flowy pants at each. Talbots was one retailer that stood out with a ton of figure-flattering styles — many on sale — and I was also impressed by Levi's and their Baggy Dad Cargo pants, as well as some chic picks from Mango, RW&CO and more. Scroll down for eight pairs of flowy pants that left me most impressed by their comfort and cuteness. The best part? Many of them can be worn well into the cooler days of fall.
RW&CO High-Rise Tapered-Leg Ankle Pants
$70 $90 at RW&CO
If I had to choose a favourite from all the pairs I tried on, it would be these striped pants from RW&CO. The stretch viscose twill fabric fits my frame perfectly, and I love the removable self-tie sash. The casual paperbag waistband adds to the appeal, and with a high-rise design that falls right at the ankle, these are pants I could run errands in all day long — and then wear to evening cocktails or a date night when paired with heels.
Gap 365 High Rise Linen-Blend Trousers
$77 $130 at Gap
These Gap pants are pure perfection! I just wish I had discovered them sooner. The high-rise fit, with the hook and bar closure, creates a tailored look, while the vertical stripes add a touch of elegance. Best of all, they're currently 40 per cent off as part of Gap's Friends & Family sale. Available in sizes 00 to 20, these pants also fit a wide range of bodies.
Mango Straight-Fit Pleated Trousers
$100 at Mango
I need more trousers in my life like these loose-fitting pleated ones from Mango. I can see these paired with a white T-shirt and oversized blazer for a chic, casual look. At 48, I also appreciate the high-waisted fit. They are definitely on the longer side (I'm 5'5" and wearing a size 4), so keep that in mind when ordering.
Talbot's Wide Leg Pull-On Pants
$129 at Talbots
The moment I spotted these pants in the store, I knew I had to try them on. I'm not usually one for bold prints, but something about these looked too good to pass up. These full-length, 100 per cent viscose pants are super easy to pull on and off, making them perfect for a weekend getaway. If you're searching for a fun and fashionable pair of everyday pants, I'd highly recommend these.
Dynamite Wide Leg Pull On Pants
$70 at Dynamite
If you're looking for a pair of pull-on elastic waistband pants that you can easily pack in your overnight bag, these Dynamite pants are a great choice. Made from 100 per cent polyester, they are not only easy to clean but also wrinkle-resistant. The lined high-rise flowy pants are so versatile, I might even grab them in all three available colourways.
Levi's Baggy Dad Cargo Women's Pants
$108 at Levi's
If you grew up in the '90s, like me, you likely owned several pairs of cargo pants — and none would have compared to these ones from Levi's. They're nostalgic, but the non-stretch twill fabric keeps them from looking sloppy. My first pair of cargos was actually a hand-me-down from my dad's time in the army — so I especially love the name of these.
Talbots Wide Crop Pull-On Gauze Pants
$70 $90 at Talbots
I loved so many of the pants I tried on at Talbots, especially these incredibly comfortable pull-on lightweight gauze ones, which also feature stylish button detailing on the sides. I'm heading to Florida later this month, and I'm taking these ultra-flowy pants with me.
Banana Republic Cotton Poplin Romper
$200 at Banana Republic
OK, it's not pants — but I have to recommend this cute romper. I've been really into rompers this year, and this one in particular from Banana Republic, with its drawstring waist and button-down front, was too cute to pass up. The tie-dye pattern is super fun, and the longer, loose-fitting shorts provide all-day comfort. Of course, the deep side seam pockets won me over. I can easily slip it on over my bathing suit for a day at the beach or dress it up with wedge sandals for lunch with the girls.

Believe it or not, it's only been a year (and some change) since Bella Hadid fully embraced her horse girl roots. You might've expected the supermodel to loosen the reins and experiment with another aesthetic by now (as most It girls do). However, Hadid's style only gets more country-ified by the day. On July 28, Hadid was spotted at a friend's baby shower in Los Angeles wearing her finest Western-wear. First, she channeled lingerie dressing in a lacy slip dress, courtesy of Mango. The $150 slip was country-chic personified, complete with a plunging camisole bodice, sheer paneling, and pleated buttons down the back. With any other shoes (think ballet flats or flip-flops), it would've felt right up Jennifer Lawrence's alley. By choosing sun-soaked cowboy boots from Shyanne, the LWD leaned more rodeo-ready, instead of on-the-go New Yorker. View Deal View Deal Now, a moment for Hadid's accessories, which hinted her horse girl style is taking a retro turn. First, she channeled summer's suede bag trend with a brown '70s-inspired tote. She's the latest star to endorse an earlier start to suede season, alongside Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Dua Lipa. Hadid's carry-all mimicked the same shape, slouch, and shade as the Valentino bag she debuted on March 25, however, it was noticeably missing the silver studs. As for her sunglasses, Hadid's loyalties usually lie with oval-shaped black shades straight out of the early aughts. This time, though, she upped the '70s boho theme with yellow-tinted wire sunglasses. They complemented her oversize hoop earrings and nostalgic enamel bangle bracelets. View Deal View Deal If you thought her baby shower set was cowboy-coded, wait until you see Hadid's next outfit. A few hours later, the horseback rider jetted from L.A. to Texas for an equestrian competition. She looked primed for the rodeo in a Western button-down from Wrangler, tucked into dark-wash jeans and suede chaps. For the full horse girl effect, Hadid popped on an ivory cowboy hat, plus a leather belt with an oversize silver buckle—presumably a vintage find. Hadid's L.A. look combines everything we love about Western-wear without going full competition mode: statement boots, suede accents, and a flowy maxi dress. It's giving undercover horse girl—a more subdued homage for cowgirls in training. Bella Hadid's Ballet-Core Sneakers Are Somehow Still in Stock

Bella Hadid has been keeping us fed on 'fits as of late. The supermodel-slash-cowboy WAG (she's living my dream, for real) has been alllll over L.A. serving looks—and I, for one, can't hit "add to cart" fast enough. I've already got tracking numbers in my inbox for her Mango slip dress and these red-hot gingham capris, but her latest look just might be my fave inspo yet. Earlier this week, Bella stepped out in the perfect Labor Day-coded look: an all-white denim Canadian tuxedo vibe complete with an ab-barring crop top and the it girl shoe of summer—ballet-inspired sneakers. While this is hardly the first time the trending style has made its way across my desk—Dua Lipa lovessss the Adidas version and Bella herself has been influencing the Cosmo office since April—it's the first time I found myself personally swayed on the subject. Which, sorry to make it all about me, but feels big! This particular shoe is just that good! The style in question, Vivaia's Jogger Re-Nylon Sneakerina, feels like a slightly more classic (yet still cutesie!) take on the trend. The design is slim and sooo lightweight à la a ballet flat but with a more traditional sneaker look. The grippy rubber outsole adds the perf amount of traction, while the elasticized heel ensures a comfy 'fit from the fist wear—and also makes them really easy to pack. The recycled re-nylon fabric looks and feels like buttery soft leather but is so much easier to care for! Seriously, you can toss these bad boys straight in the washing machine and they'll look good as new. While I'm (clearly!) infatuated with the jogger version, Bella's also been spotted in Vivaia's Square-Toe Lace-Up Satin Sneakerina, which shoppers are similarly obsessed with. "My feet can breathe even [on] a long walk. It's like walking without shoes," one reviewer says. "I took them to London and Paris and walked around for miles. The sole is super cushy and saved my feet even on European cobblestone streets," another adds. As for the rest of Bella's look, while I couldn't find her exact tank, I am feeling pretty confident she's sporting these Agolde low-slung baggy jeans and the nearly sold-out matching jacket. Since I'm too impatient to wait for a restock in my size, I'm grabbing this similar Madewell version that will coordinate just as well. Oh, and when you see me still wearing this full white fit (down to the Sneakerinas) even after Labor your business <3 Megan Schaltegger is an NYC-based writer. She loves strong coffee, eating her way through the Manhattan food scene, and her dog, Murray. She promises not to talk about herself in third person IRL.
