'Incredibles 3' to be directed by 'Elemental's Peter Sohn, Brad Bird set to write and produce the sequel

The Incredibles franchise is officially moving forward with a third film — and this time, there's a new director at the helm.
Peter Sohn, known for 'Elemental' and 'The Good Dinosaur', has been chosen to direct 'Incredibles 3', with original creator Brad Bird returning to write the screenplay and produce the film.
Bird, who directed and wrote the first two blockbuster films, will co-produce the third instalment alongside Dana Murray, who previously worked on 'Soul'. While Bird won't be directing this time, he remains closely involved in shaping the story.
Peter Sohn is no stranger to Pixar or the Incredibles universe. A long-time Pixar veteran, he has voiced characters in 'Ratatouille', 'Monsters University' and 'Lightyear', and worked on both Incredibles films. Sohn was mentored by Bird early in his career and is widely respected for his storytelling and animation work.
Pixar's chief creative officer Pete Docter and Bird personally selected Sohn to carry the franchise forward. His most recent film, 'Elemental', was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars.
The Incredibles films follow the Parr family — Bob (Mr. Incredible), Helen (Elastigirl), and their three superpowered children Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack — as they juggle suburban life with saving the world. Samuel L. Jackson also returns as Frozone, Mr. Incredible's longtime friend and fellow superhero.
With this new team in place, Incredibles 3 is expected to build on the legacy of its predecessors while bringing a fresh voice to the beloved superhero family's next chapter. A release date has not yet been announced.

Zoe Saldaña Says Her Oscar Award Is ‘Trans' and Uses They/Them Pronouns: ‘My Oscar Is Gender Fluid'

Zoe Saldaña has shared that her Academy Award trophy is gender-fluid and goes by they/them pronouns. The actor, who won Best Supporting Actress at the 2025 Oscars for her role in Emilia Pérez, made the comment while speaking to PEOPLE on the red carpet for Disney and Pixar's upcoming film Elio. "We have it in my office, and my Oscar is gender fluid," Saldaña said. "It's trans and goes by they/them." Saldaña earned critical acclaim for playing Rita, a lawyer who helps a cartel leader transition, in Jacques Audiard's Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez. The film and her performance were praised throughout awards season, with Saldaña taking home top honors at the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice Awards, BAFTAs, and SAG Awards before winning the Oscar. She also shared the Best Actress prize at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival with co-stars Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, and Adriana Paz, marking a rare collective win at the festival. Here's what Zoe Saldaña said in her Oscar speech During her acceptance speech at the Oscars, Saldaña paid tribute to her heritage and family. "Thank you to the Academy for recognizing the quiet heroism and the power in a woman like Rita, and talking about powerful women," she said. She continued: "Jacques, you are a beloved character in my life. Thank you for taking the interest. Thank you for being so curious about these women to tell this story. To my cast and my crew of Emilia Pérez, I'm sharing this award with you." Zoe Saldaña grew emotional as she spoke about her roots, sharing that her grandmother came to the United States in 1961. She said she was a proud child of immigrant parents and showed pride in being the first American of Dominican origin to accept an Academy Award, adding that she hoped she would not be the last. She also reflected on how meaningful it was to receive an award for a role that allowed her to sing and speak in Spanish, stating that her grandmother would have been delighted and dedicating the win to her. Saldaña's choice to refer to her Oscar statue with they/them pronouns follows Jamie Lee Curtis, who did the same after winning Best Supporting Actress for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Curtis said she did so to support her daughter Ruby, who came out as transgender in 2020.

Pixar taps ‘Elemental' director Peter Sohn for ‘Incredibles 3' as Brad Bird hands over the reins

Pixar has officially named Peter Sohn as the director of Incredibles 3, marking a major shift for the beloved superhero franchise. Brad Bird, who wrote and directed the first two films, will remain involved as screenwriter and producer but will not direct the third installment. Sohn, a Pixar veteran known for directing Elemental and The Good Dinosaur, takes over a franchise that has grossed $1.8 billion globally. The first Incredibles debuted in 2004 and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Its long-awaited sequel, Incredibles 2, was released in 2018 and brought in over $1.2 billion at the box office. Bird's decision to step back from directing comes as he begins pre-production on Ray Gunn, his upcoming sci-fi noir project with Skydance. Despite the change in leadership, Bird is staying closely connected to Incredibles 3 as both co-writer and producer alongside Dana Murray (Soul). Sohn's appointment reflects a longstanding creative relationship with Bird and Pixar. He has contributed to every Bird-led animated film to date and was handpicked by Bird and Pixar's Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter to carry the story forward. The Incredibles series centers on Bob and Helen Parr (voiced by Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter), a married couple raising three super-powered children in a world where heroes have gone underground. Returning cast members include Samuel L. Jackson and Sarah Vowell. No release date has been announced yet for Incredibles 3, which was confirmed at Disney's D23 Expo in 2024. Meanwhile, Pixar is preparing for the June 20 release of Elio, directed by Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi, and starring Yonas Kibreab, Zoe Saldaña, and Jameela Jamil.
