UAE conducts 71st airdrop of aid over Gaza Strip
GAZA (WAM)The United Arab Emirates is continuing its humanitarian support for the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, on Thursday carrying out its 71st airdrop of aid under Operation Birds of Goodness, part of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, in cooperation with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and with the participation of Germany, Italy, Belgium, and France.The shipment included quantities of essential food supplies, prepared with the support of UAE-based charitable institutions and entities, to meet the needs of residents amid the difficult humanitarian conditions in the Strip.With the completion of this airdrop, the total amount of aid delivered by air under the operation has exceeded 3,956 tonnes of various relief items, including food and essential supplies, underscoring the UAE's steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and bolstering their resilience.
These initiatives reflect the UAE's leading role in international relief work, by mobilising regional and international efforts and promoting a humanitarian giving approach to alleviate the suffering of those affected in crisis areas.

Israel's national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir told a Palestinian political pensioner that he would "wipe" out Palestinians. Israel's Ben Gvir seen threatening Marwan Barghouti in prison in new video
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has been filmed visiting Marwan Barghouti, the most prominent Palestinian prisoner, and threatening him that Israel will "obliterate" anyone who opposes it. It is the first time that Barghouti has been seen publicly in years. Aged and gaunt, wearing a white undershirt, he is almost unrecognisable. In the video, which circulated on social media on Thursday night, Ben Gvir is seen telling Barghouti: "Whoever messes with the people of Israel, whoever murders our children, whoever murders our women, we will obliterate them. You will not defeat us." Barghouti has been in prison since 2004. A senior figure in Fatah, the party that dominates the Palestinian Authority (PA), he was targeted by Israel due to his leading role in the 2000-2005 Second Intifada and popularity among the public. Qassem Barghouti, Marwan's son, told Middle East Eye that his family feels a grave threat to his father's life, particularly after this latest footage. He was attacked for the first time two years ago at the beginning of the war and was wounded to varying degrees," Qassem Barghouti said. "It is clear today from the threat of National Security Minister Ben Gvir, who represents the highest Israeli security hierarchy, that there is a real danger to his life." Qassem Barghouti said it is "clear that there is direct threat to assassinate and kill him inside his cell" and that the targeting and abuse of Palestinian prisoners is part of the genocide that Israel is waging in the Gaza Strip. UAE condemns Israeli statements on 'Greater Israel'
The UAE on Thursday condemned statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the 'Greater Israel' vision. In a statement, the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the remarks constitute a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter. The ministry underscored the UAE's categorical rejection of any threat to the sovereignty of Arab states, and called for an end to incendiary statements and actions by extremists in the Israeli government. Mr Netanyahu, in a recent TV interview, said he felt "very much" attached to the idea of Greater Israel, and that he felt a sense of 'historic and spiritual mission" for the country. A "Greater Israel" would almost certainly include areas set aside for a future Palestinian state, and possibly parts of other countries such as Jordan and Egypt. The Arab League strongly condemned Mr Netanyahu's comments. "The statements of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding 'Greater Israel' represent an extremist and arrogant discourse that has long cost the region and its peoples dearly," Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed, said in a post on X.
