Nearly 100 USAFA cadets accused of cheating, violating Honor Code
USAFA claims nearly 100 cadets have admitted to either cheating or tolerating cheating. The cadets who admitted to violating the Honor Code have received punitive sanctions and rehabilitation actions, and USAFA plans to hold accountable any other cadets identified during the investigation.
'The Honor Code is foundational to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the character necessary of warrior leaders,' said Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind, U.S. Air Force Academy Superintendent. 'Everyone at our Academy must live and enforce the Honor Code.'
According to USAFA, the investigation is ongoing, and it is working to identify whether more cadets cheated on the test or facilitated cheating. USAFA said it is planning to use information found during the investigation to make changes that strengthen enforcement and commitment to the Honor Code.

Retzlaff denied the allegations and said that the encounter was consensual. The plaintiff withdrew the lawsuit in June. At Big 12 media days on Tuesday, BYU coach Kalani Sitake said he planned to 'prep for everything' when it came to Retzlaff's status. 'As a coach, you're prepping for the worst-case scenario. The fact that we could be in a quarterback competition, that's gonna be the key,' Sitake said. 'We'll have somebody there to catch the snap. We just have to let them win it out.' Last season, Retzlaff threw for 2,947 yards, 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, with BYU finishing 11-2. Now, junior Treyson Bourguet, redshirt sophomore McCae Hillstead and freshman Bear Bachmeier will likely compete to start at quarterback. As for what's next for Retzlaff, while the transfer portal is not an option this late in the calendar, his decision to withdraw from BYU means he will likely enroll elsewhere as a normal student to continue playing college football. Now-Miami defensive back Xavier Lucas did the same thing after leaving Wisconsin last winter outside of the portal window. 'I'm excited to turn the page and embrace the next chapter,' Retzlaff said in his statement. 'My journey is far from over — and I'm more motivated than ever to keep chasing my goals.'

BYU quarterback Jake Retzlaff intends to transfer as he believes a seven-game suspension is coming from the school for an honor code violation stemming from a sexual assault allegation against him. Retzlaff has just one year left of eligibility as a graduate student, and with a possible suspension coming, ESPN reported his intention to go elsewhere for the 2025 college football season. The Salt Lake Tribune reported Retzlaff's anticipation of the lengthy suspension from BYU, which is run by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Engaging in consensual premarital sex is a violation of BYU's honor code, which is a strict set of rules that instructs students to "live a chaste and virtuous life," per the Tribune. While Retzlaff is not Mormon, the honor code applies to all students enrolled at BYU. A woman, who was referred to as Jane Doe A.G., is accusing Retzlaff of sexual assault in a lawsuit that was filed in May. The original complaint alleged that Retzlaff put his hands around the woman's neck and raped her after she attempted to leave his apartment, per ESPN. However, new filings on Friday have Retzlaff denying the allegations, claiming the two engaged in consensual sex. "Mr. Retzlaff specifically and categorically denies each and every and all allegations that he bit, raped or strangled [the woman], which are ridiculous and bizarre allegations, all of which are false and untrue," Retzlaff's attorneys wrote, via ESPN. Retzlaff's attorneys are also accusing the woman of extortion, claiming the quarterback never heard from the woman for more than a year. But, now that he is "an NFL Draft prospect," the lawsuit is coming out, USA Today reported, citing Friday's filings. Retzlaff transferred to BYU in 2023, and he led the way in 2024 with an 11-2 record for the Cougars. It's unknown where Retzlaff will transfer, or which teams may be interested in him for this year.
