Morocco to Develop AI Model to Simplify Government Services
Seghrouchni outlined details during the question session at the House of Representatives, detailing that the AI project is part of several initiatives her department has launched.
She revealed that the ministry is also working on a digital administration law, specifically including provisions related to AI, focusing on data protection and system security.
Training programs for citizens and officials
In order to support digital transformation-related initiatives, the ministry is set to create a comprehensive training and awareness program for both government staff and citizens. The program will allow youth-focused training initiatives, such as digital skills and AI development programs that will benefit young talents aged 8 to 18.
Regional AI centers planned
The government will also expand the 'Al Jazari Institute' center of excellence across all regions of the country, which aims to develop AI-enhanced digital solutions and serve as regional bridges between research, innovation, and local ecosystems.
Al Jazari Institute is set to be a hub of excellence in artificial intelligence and technological innovation, through developing certification courses, enhancing student skills, and promoting applied research.
The ministry plans to deploy these centers first in the Guelmim-Oued Noun and Oriental (Nador) regions before rolling them out nationwide.
AI supports, but cannot replace human skills
Meanwhile, although AI's assistance is significant in big data processing and automating repetitive tasks, Seghrouchni argued that the technology cannot replace human skills in either public or private sectors.
'This technology helps human capital carry out their missions more efficiently and transparently,' she noted.
The minister's comments reflect Morocco's approach to AI adoption — using the technology to enhance government services while maintaining the central role of human expertise in public administration.
Morocco's steps forward in AI adoption
The North African country has made significant steps towards the adoption of AI in various sectors, stemming from the understanding that technology inclusion in different aspects of life is mandatory.
Morocco recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost its AI sector, positioning the country as a leader of AI in Africa.
On July 2, Seghrouchni signed an MoU with Current AI, backed by significant government funding, making Morocco a founding member of the global initiative that aims to put AI technology to work for the common good.
Morocco considers AI as a tool for progress rather than inequality and is working towards a structured collaborative vision to make AI a driver of sustainable and sovereign development across the continent.

Rabat – Morocco reportedly seeks to send more humanitarian aid to Gaza, asking Israel to allow the aid to enter the Palestinian enclave, which has been subjected to a starvation war and genocide since October 2023. Israel Hayom reported today that King Mohammed VI previously asked Benjamin Netanyahu to allow humanitarian assistance to enter Gaza from Morocco. In June 2024, Morocco's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said King Mohammed VI had sent urgent directives to deploy a medical aid operation for the people in Gaza. The aid package included 40 tons of medical supplies, with the aim of addressing medical needs amid the IOF's genocide. In March of the same year, Morocco also sent 40 tons of humanitarian aid to alleviate the situation in Gaza. The North African kingdom has consistently called for the entry of humanitarian aid into the enclave, as well as the lifting of the blockade and an immediate ceasefire to halt Israel's genocidal war. People have been starving to death as Israel troops continue their relentless attacks on Palestinian homes. According to converging reports, famine has so far killed at least 154 Palestinians, including many children. In the past 24 hours alone, seven people, including a child, succumbed to starvation. UM6P, Tanger Med Launch AI Program to Transform Industrial Operations
Marrakech – The University Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P) and Tanger Med Group signed a new partnership agreement on Tuesday, launching the 'AI Tanger Med' program. This initiative mobilizes students from the 1337 MED campus to develop artificial intelligence solutions for real industrial challenges faced by companies within the Tanger Med ecosystem. The program operates under the scientific guidance of UM6P's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory to ensure strong academic foundations while addressing practical operational needs. Students work on concrete projects involving automation, data analysis, and cybersecurity – all directly connected to port, logistics, and industrial operations. 'The terrain becomes a classroom and puts innovation at the service of operational excellence,' states the joint press release from both organizations. This approach creates a dual benefit: Tanger Med brings together its partners to formulate operational problems, while students gain an immersive, structured experience connecting their technical skills to industrial realities. The agreement builds upon a successful collaboration that began in 2021 with the establishment of the 1337 MED campus in Martil near Tangier. Today, this campus hosts nearly 400 students trained through a unique model in Morocco based on project learning, mutual assistance, and autonomy. Without traditional lectures or professors, students develop problem-solving skills through collaborative projects. This partnership propels the North African country's digital landscape forward alongside other technological initiatives. Earlier in July, the Ministry of Digital Transition held the first national conference on artificial intelligence under the theme 'An Efficient and Ethical AI Strategy Serving Our Society.' During this conference, Digital Transition Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni declared that 'integrating AI into the national strategic horizon is a prerequisite for sovereignty.' She asserted that AI must be viewed 'not as a subsidiary technical solution, but as a fundamental institutional responsibility.' The government has recently launched several initiatives to position Morocco as a regional leader in AI. On July 22, a protocol agreement between government ministries, the Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency (AMDIE), and the French group, Onepoint, established a data and AI excellence center in the Casablanca-Settat region. The project plans to recruit 500 Moroccan engineers over four years, strengthening expertise in AI, middleware, and data management. Additionally, the Ministry of Digital Transition signed partnerships with UM6P in early July to advance research in data centers and digital sovereignty as part of the 'Morocco Digital 2030' national strategy.

King Mohammed VI calls for early preparation of Morocco's 2026 legislative elections
Estimated read time: 1' In a speech delivered on Tuesday, July 29, on the occasion of Throne Day, King Mohammed VI addressed the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for 2026. «With just over a year remaining before the next legislative elections, set to take place within the constitutional and legal deadlines, we underscore the need to finalize the General Electoral Code within the House of Representatives. This code must be adopted and made public before the end of this year», the Sovereign declared. «To this end, we have given our High Instructions to the Minister of the Interior to rigorously oversee preparations for the 2026 legislative elections. It is essential to initiate political consultations with all concerned stakeholders», he added. Several political parties, including the Justice and Development Party (PJD), have already called on Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit to begin preparations for the electoral process. They stress the importance of inclusive dialogue with all political forces wishing to take part in the elections. Key issues expected to be on the table include electoral redistricting, the electoral threshold, and the long-debated question of allowing Moroccans residing abroad to vote directly from their countries of residence.
