Sam Kerr's fiancee Kristie Mewis steps out with their newborn baby after revealing social media post - and Matildas fans will be thrilled to learn why

Daily Mail15-05-2025

Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis have been giving fans on social media glimpses into their new lives as parents.
The football stars welcomed their son Jagger into the world one week ago and have been seen beaming with elation after taking their newborn out for walks while enjoying life at home as a family.
Kerr, who plays for the Matildas and Mewis, who plays for the US National team, stepped out with Jagger earlier this week for a walk in the park.
The footballers published a heartwarming snap of each other walking hand-in-hand down the street as they pushed Jagger along in a stroller.
They also published a snap of Kristie's parents, Melissa and Robert, meeting their grandchild over dinner.
In recent days, speculation has begun to emerge that Kerr has returned to Chelsea training.
The pair have been glowing with joy in recent days having shared glimpses of their lives as new parents on social media
This Masthead understands that Kerr had been picked up by a private car that had been rented by her club, Chelsea, and had been taken to the training ground one morning earlier this week.
It comes as Chelsea face Manchester United in the Women's FA Cup final on Sunday at Wembley.
Kerr has been out of action for over a year after she suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament back in January 2024.
The footballer later underwent surgery on the injury but has not played for the Matildas or Chelsea since.
Kerr has been seen training on grass with her team-mates in recent months and returned to Australia in April, to spend time around Tom Sermanni's side during their recent friendlies against South Korea.
It is not yet clear when Kerr could be fit to return to action.
Sonia Bompastor recently said she had hoped that Kerr could make a comeback before the end of the season but was unable to give a firm answer on the matter.
'She's working really hard,' Bompastor said in a press conference at the end of April.
Mewis also took to Instagram to share with her fans that she has been taking things slowly in the past few days
'All the performance staff are doing everything for her to play this season.
'We'll see how it goes. We know we only have a few games left now. 'Hopefully, yes, but it's difficult for me to have a clear answer.'
West Ham star Mewis, meanwhile, was later seen stepping out of their London home with Jagger and a friend.
Mewis donned a pair of sunglasses and a black hat, as she pushed Jagger along in a black pram.
The new mum, who cut a low profile, stopped for a moment to play with her baby boy as they enjoyed a walk in the London sun.
Mewis also took to her Instagram this week to give fans another glimpse into their life at home.
She took a selfie of herself nursing her baby boy, Jagger, while wearing a pair of boob pads.
She captioned the Instagram story: 'Slow mornings and boob pads!!'
Many of their friends, team-mates and family members have been taking to social media to congratulate the happy couple on the exciting news.
Matildas stars MacKenzie Arnold, Caitlin Foord and Emily Van Egmond were among those writing congratulations messages.
Kerr had also issued her support to her fiancee Mewis this week, writing in the comments of Mewis' recent Instagram post: 'You are the best,' adding a 'heart' emoji.
Kerr revealed to fans during her high-profile court case this year that she and Mewis were planning to get married later this December.
She also shed a light on how the couple first met.
The pair had met around 2019, after the Australian had moved to London to play for Chelsea just before the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 31-year-old striker explained to the court that the American had 'slid into her DMs' and the pair subsequently began dating.
She also revealed during the trial that the pair were expecting a baby boy.
It is unclear when Kerr could return to action, having spent over a year on the sidelines due to the injury
They are understood to have first met in 2019, just after Kerr moved to London, with Kerr revealing earlier this year that Mewis had 'slid into her DMs'
She and Mewis also made headlines in 2021, after the West Ham midfielder was seen consoling Kerr on the football field during the Olympics.
The US National side had beaten Australia 4-3 in the third-place play-off in Tokyo and Kerr cut an emotional figure following the loss.
She and Mewis gathered in the centre circle with the American subsequently embracing a teary-eyed Kerr in heartwarming scenes.
Mewis, 34, and Kerr, 31, would get engaged in 2023. The US soccer star revealed the heartwarming news to People Magazine, stating: '[She's] my biggest supporter, always listening to me nag and complain at all of my crazy antics.'
Mewis' last game for West Ham came in September 2024.
The Massachusetts-born footballer, who wears No 15 for the Hammers, began her senior professional footballing journey, playing for Canberra FC. She'd later move back home to the US and enjoyed spells with several teams, notably the Boston Breakers and the Houston Dash. She'd also spend a season out on loan with the Breakers at Bayern Munich and Japanese side Iga FC Kunoichi.
She'd also turn out for the NJ/NY Gotham FC during the 2022-23 season before moving to West Ham.

Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken out about potentially playing in this summer's Club World Cup. Ronaldo, 40, currently plays for Al-Nassr who have not qualified for the tournament, but he has been linked with a transfer away to join a club that is participating. Ahead of playing in Sunday's Nations League final for Portugal against Spain, Ronaldo has now revealed that he does not expect to play at the Club World Cup. 'It's almost decided that I will not take part at the FIFA Club World Cup despite receiving many invitations and proposals,' Ronaldo told reporters. 'There have been talks, contacts… but you have to think about short, medium and long term.' More to follow...

Tottenham captain Son Heung-min breaks silence on Ange Postecoglou's brutal axeing after Europa League triumph

Son Heung-min heaped praise on Ange Postecoglou after the Australian was sacked as Tottenham manager. The football world was rocked on Friday as Tottenham announced they had parted ways with their head coach after two years. The decision came just 16 days after Postecoglou had led Spurs to glory in Bilbao, defeating Manchester United 1-0 at the San Mames to win the Europa League. Victory also marked the club's first silverware since a league cup triumph in 2008, and marked their first European trophy in over four decades. In a Instagram post on Saturday, Son hailed Postecoglou's influence in north London and claimed he is 'a better player and a better person' as a result of working under the former Celtic boss. 'Gaffer. You've changed the trajectory of this club,' the Spurs captain wrote. 'You believed in yourself, and us, since day one and never wavered for a second. Even when others did. 'You knew what we were capable of all along. You did it your way. And your way brought this club the best night it's had in decades. We will have those memories for life. 'You trusted me with the captaincy. One of the highest honours of my career. 'It's been an incredible privilege to learn from your leadership up close, I am a better player and a better person because of you. 'Ange Postecoglou, you are a Tottenham Hotspur legend forever. Thank you, mate.'

John Obi Mikel calls for three more Chelsea signings but fears one star will go

John Obi Mikel hopes to see Chelsea make at least three more signings to prove there are legitimate Premier League title contenders next season. In Enzo Maresca's first season in charge at Stamford Bridge, the Blues showed signs they were ready to fight for English football's biggest prize once again but an alarming dip after the turn of the year saw their hopes of keeping pace with Liverpool fade quickly. They swiftly found themselves among the clutch of clubs scrapping for Champions League qualification but a strong end to the campaign saw them finish fourth, confirming their return to European football's top table next season. A Europa Conference League triumph further emboldened Maresca's young side with Liam Delap since joining the squad, choosing Chelsea over Manchester United. A Club World Cup campaign in the US will give them the chance to add more silverware with Mikel, part of some of the most successful squads in Chelsea history, convinced it can reignite a winning culture in the dressing room. Chelsea's coffers will be filled to the tune of £100m if they end up winning the revamped competition with the former midfielder eager to see the money spent wisely. With Jadon Sancho returning to Manchester United, Mikel believes another winger is a must, along with a central midfielder. While Levi Cowill and Trevoh Chalobah finished the season formidably with Wesley Fofana injured again, the Nigerian believes the squad could also benefit from an experienced option at the back. 'I'm excited by the business the club has done. But if we can go again and win the Club World Cup, they can bring in more money and go again and spend,' Mikel told Metro. 'Bring in an experienced centre-back another midfield player and another winger. Jadon Sancho is going back to Manchester United, if we can bring in another winger who can take on players, create chances and score goals, that is what we need. 'We need to keep improving and I am sure Laurence Stewart, Paul Winstanley [Chelsea's co-sporting directors] and the guys there are working hard behind the scenes to bring in some really good players to improve the squad.' He continued: I think they are legitimate contenders and we should believe that. We have a great squad, a young team but a great squad, a team that has just tasted what it is like to win a trophy. 'Winning is about culture and that is what Chelsea Football Club is and we have to continue that culture. This young squad has now tasted what it feels like to win a trophy, I hope they can build on it because that creates a winning mentality around the squad.' Noni Madueke's return of 11 goals and five assists saw him emerge as an important component in that young attack, also forcing his way into the England picture. The 23-year-old found himself questioned and challenged by his manager on more than one occasion, however, warned over his performances in training in August before being dropped from the squad for a game against Aston Villa for similar reasons in December. Madueke now finds his future at Stamford Bridge uncertain with Newcastle United interested in bringing him to St James' Park. Mikel shares some of Maresca's concerns over the winger, insisting 'there is a lot of room for improvement' given the talent he has at his disposal. While he would like to see Madeuke remain part of the squad, the arrival of a new wide option could see him shown the door. 'I like him,' Mikel said of Madueke. 'There is a lot of room for improvement however, I think him as a player, he can definitely do more. He can do more defensively and in terms of scoring goals. Maybe there is a reason Maresca wants to get rid of him. 'There is a lot more expected from Noni. His relationship with the manager, all throughout the season there was a little bit of tension. But I liked that, he gave him that little kick up the backside. You have to get better. Your end product has to be better. More Trending 'Enzo knows Noni can do better, he knows there's a lot more there. I think Noni has taken it on board sometimes but he can do better. If he is the player that is going to have to be let go to bring in another top winger, it's not a bad idea but for me, I would keep him and bring in someone else. 'Because the talent is there. But he needs to perform week in week out. The manager knows better than anyone else, he must have seen something in him we haven't seen. Maybe how he trains, how he applies himself, I don't know, if that is going to happen, maybe there is a reason Maresca wants to get rid of him. But as a Chelsea fan, I keep him.'
