Dog walker filmed carrying 'lifeless' body of pet suffering heat stroke to house before owner finds it dead
A dog walker has been filmed carrying the "lifeless" body of a pet suffering heat stroke to its home hours before its owner found her dead.
Dave McGhee, who runs Dave's Dugs, was filmed carrying English Bulldog Shelby to her owner's Bellshill home on Tuesday, August 12. The pet's limbs were seen sticking up in the air in footage captured on Ring Doorbell as her exhausted body was carted to the property following a scorching walk in 27C heat.
Shelby's owner, disabled gran Mandy Lawrie, 63, returned home to find the two-year-old pet lying dead on the living room floor. McGhee told Mandy's daughter Michelle he had taken Shelby on a 20 minute walk and the pet was returned to the house feeling no ill-effects.
But a neighbour's doorbell camera captured McGhee carrying the dog lying in his arms up the garden path before it was left in Mandy's house.
The clip confirmed Shelby was returned to the house almost an hour after she was picked up. Last night McGhee said he was sorry over Shelby's death. Mandy, however, has been left heartbroken by the loss of her dog.
Speaking to the Record, Michelle said: 'We were shocked watching the footage. She looked lifeless. It was distressing seeing her in that condition. We couldn't believe it.
'My mum has MS and COPD. She's not fit to take the dogs out so that's why she relies on Dave." It was really hot outside. He said he took the dogs on a short walk in the shade.
'He claimed Shelby walked in the gate and was happy when he dropped her off.'
Michelle's suspicions arose and she asked her mum's next-door-neighbour for their doorbell camera footage.
Mandy, who uses a mobility scooter, hired Dave's Dugs one year ago to walk her three pets after struggling with her mobility.
McGhee had arrived at 10.30am on Tuesday to collect Shelby and Staffordshire Bull Terrier Raven and Mandy left behind a key for the dogs to be dropped off.
Her daughter Michelle told the Record her mum has been left traumatised after finding Shelby.
The 41-year-old said: 'Shelby was a bubbly wee dog. She usually runs to the front door when she hears us coming in but the house was quiet when we arrived.
'We walked in and she was lying dead on the living room floor. My mum is traumatised. I don't know how she will cope.
'She only lost her sister three weeks ago. The dogs are like her children. Her other dog Raven was just staring at Shelby's body wondering why she wouldn't move. It broke our hearts.'
The family called in police and the Scottish SPCA to review the footage.
Michelle slammed McGhee for failing to seek veterinary treatment for her beloved pooch.
She said: 'He made no attempt to get her to a vet or even call us to say she was unwell. English Bulldog s struggle in the heat due to their short muzzles - never mind being outside for an hour. It's disgusting. The way that this has happened is outrageous."

Last night Dave told the Record: 'I am deeply sorry for the loss of Shelby. I have been walking dogs for over two years and have always prioritised their wellbeing.
'What began as a tragedy has unfortunately led to threats of violence. I will not be commenting further.'
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 5.15pm on Tuesday, 12 August, 2025 we received a report of a dead dog at a property in Mossend, Bellshill.
'Appropriate advice was given to the reporter and there is no further police involvement.'

Barlinnie jail could join Edinburgh Castle on heritage A-list once £1 billion replacement opens
Labour MSP Paul Sweeney told the Record the notorious prison has been "the site of significant Glaswegian social history" and parts of it must be preserved. Scotland's most notorious prison could soon be ranked alongside Edinburgh Castle under plans being considered by heritage chiefs. HMP Barlinnie, which opened in 1882, has been described by inspectors as being in a "wretchedly poor state" with inmates stuck in wings often 30 per cent overcapacity. The jail, known locally as the " Big Hoose", is due to close in the late 2020s when a replacement nick is finally opened in Glasgow at a cost of £1 billion. The SNP Government confirmed this week that prison bosses are currently engaging with Historic Environment Scotland (HES) on whether "any part of the buildings at the prison would be considered for listed building status". If approved, the Victorian wings of the Bar-L could be A-listed - the same category as Edinburgh Castle. It follows a campaign by Labour's Paul Sweeney to ensure parts of the complex are retained for future reuse. The Glasgow MSP told the Record: "Barlinnie has played a central role in Scotland's justice system for over a century. The building reflects key aspects of Victorian-era prison design and has been the site of significant Glaswegian social history. "Protecting this history and unique architectural design is the reason why I applied to Historic Environment Scotland to explore the possibility of listing the original Barlinnie Prison complex. I am pleased that 76 per cent of Glaswegians agree with me that the building should be protected and options for reuse explored. "I have now written to the Scottish Government to request that they instruct the Scottish Prison Service to commission the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust or a similar organisation to undertake such an options appraisal and feasibility study well in advance of its planned closure." Construction of Barlinnie began in 1880 and it accepted its first inmates two years later. The jail complex continued to expand over the decades to cope with the rising numbers of prisoners being banged up. HES has found the majority of the early prison buildings are still standing - including the halls, chapel, hospital, gate house and sections of the boundary wall Conditions in Barlinnie were notoriously grim and each individual cell was not equipped with a toilet until 2004. A replacement jail was supposed to open this year but the project has been subject to repeated delays and cost increases. The new HMP Glasgow is not expected to open until 2028 at the earliest at the cost of at least £1 billion to the taxpayer. A recent report by His Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons blamed overcrowding for some prisoners being locked up for 22 hours a day and a long waiting list for rehabilitation programmes. There is also inability to offer prisoners daily showers, as well as poor library provision and unsatisfactory health care. Opposition parties were left stunned in February when the SNP Government announced the cost of building a new HMP Glasgow had doubled to £1bn. The new cost is nearly 10 times the original estimate of £100m, which was proposed in 2014.

Missing Texas woman found living among ‘African tribe' who have set up camp in Scots forest
A MISSING Texas woman has been found living among an "African tribe" who have set up camp in a Scottish forest. Kaura Taylor is now serving as a handmaiden for Kofi Offeh, 36, and Jean Gasho, 42 — who call themselves King Atehehe and Queen Nandi — in a kingdom they've named Kubala. 5 Kaura Taylor is now serving as a handmaiden in the Kingdom of Kubala Credit: Andrew Barr 5 The trio are living in tents in a forest near Jedburgh, Roxburghshire Credit: Andrew Barr 5 The group claims they have settled here to reclaim land stolen from their ancestors in the Highlands 400 years ago Credit: Andrew Barr The trio are living in tents in a forest near Jedburgh, Roxburghshire. The group claims they have settled here to reclaim land stolen from their ancestors in the Highlands 400 years ago. It is unclear as to why Taylor, who goes by the name Asnat, left the US or how she managed to join the "tribe". But in a video message from the camp, she said: "To the UK authorities, obviously I am not missing. "Leave me alone. I'm an adult, not a helpless child." The group settled on a council-owned spot in the town and declared they were reclaiming land 'stolen' from their Highland ancestors 400 years ago. Videos on social media show the trio bathing in a stream, praying by a river wearing only foraged leaves, sweeping the ground with handmade brooms and chanting by a fire under the stars. But vigilantes trampled down the camp and torched their rebuilt shelters earlier this month after they were served with a council eviction notice. 'Queen Nandi' previously told The Scottish Sun: 'We had gone out and people who had come to donate food for us, saw grown people at our tent and there was a big gas explosion. 'They threw something in the tent, big logs in the tent - they were going to kill us before they burned us down. It was terrible. It happened between about 7pm til 9pm. Brit danger tourist brands tribe pest an 'amateur' & reveals bizarre peace offering he SHOULD have made instead of Coke 'We returned and everything was burned down to ashes, the firefighters were there. We lost everything apart from the clothes on our back.' Clutching a large decorated stick, 'King' Atehene added: 'The people of Jedburgh, after hearing our story, said 'we can give you a tent' and they came to this place and built a tent - and said 'here will be quieter' for us, so we can be here, as we get over everything that just happened to us.' When reminded that the land was council owned, he added: 'There is no law in this world that we do not know because we follow a natural law, a law of the creator - the Hebrew God, the God of the bible. No other law matters to us. We have our own way of living. We rely on our god for our provision.' It is believed the 'King and Queen' have been together for about 15 years and lived in houses before setting off on their 'pilgrimage' to Scotland to live like 'their ancestors.' Their presence has been supported by some locals, but has angered others. A Co-op worker said they used the shop daily - and sit outside the store every night, to use the customer Wifi. 5 Queen Nandi painted the Kingdom's name and symbol on a tree at their previous site, which they were ordered to leave Credit: Andrew Barr 5 Vigilantes trampled down the camp and torched their rebuilt shelters earlier this month Credit: Andrew Barr Shoppers have noticed that the bench they usually sit on, has since been removed. We told how the couple left a former home after hanging a chilling banner, warning: 'Your children shall be dashed to pieces'. They previously caused concern by stringing up the banner next to a satellite dish outside their old property, with the Biblical quote in blood-like lettering. 'House of Fire' was also painted in red on a front window, while Swastika-like symbols hung on bunting inside the flat in Stockton, County Durham. One alarmed local in Jedburgh said: 'This previous threat to children is deeply concerning, considering they're now camping in woodland, behind Jedburgh Grammar Campus. 'There are obvious concerns over their mental health. The authorities need to intervene.' Scottish Borders Council said: 'Responsibility for any future legal action rests with the landowner. Along with police, we will continue to monitor the situation.'

Missing woman found alive in lost 'African' tribe in Scotland
The woman - who has been living as an 'inferior mistress' with two other people in a Scottish forest under the name Asna - has now been revealed as missing Kaura Taylor from Texas A missing woman has been found alive after she was discovered living with a 'lost African tribe' in of the Kingdom of Kubala set up camp in a forest in Jedburgh this summer in a bid to 'reclaim' land they believe was taken from their ancestors in the Scottish Highlands 400 years ago. The eccentric group of three includes leader King Atehene, 36, formerly an opera performer known as Kofi Offeh, his wife, Queen Nandi, and their loyal handmaiden, Asnat. It has now been revealed that Asnat - also known as Lady Safi - is Kaura Taylor from Texas, who has been reported missing by her relatives back home. One video filmed in the forest shows her collecting firewood with a camping trolley in the "new Kabala way".Amid attempts by the local authority to evict the trio from the land, Asnat has insisted that she has no interest in returning to her home country, and said in a separate video statement: "To the UK authorities, obviously I am not missing. Leave me alone. I'm an adult, not a helpless child." She gives her full title as "Asnat of Atehene, the handmaiden of Queen Nandi, the inferior mistress of my King". The Kingdom of Kubala say they "don't acknowledge local laws", and claim they have encountered harassment from those who don't understand their lifestyle. Offerings made to the King by his two followers have included a number of favourite Scottish treats, including Irn Bru and shortbread. Since pitching their tents in the area this summer the group have been handed eviction orders, and allege that their shelters were torched. But they have refused to talk to police, and say they only accept the laws of their God, called Yahowah. The tribe claims to live a modest, off-grid, existence, washing in a nearby creek, dwelling in tents, and communing with nature. King Atehene, who claims to be descended from the group's messiah, said: "We live a very simple life of returning to innocence. We connect to nature. We connect to the trees around us. We get grounded every morning. We bathe in the springwater. We are living a simple life of relying daily on the creator for food, shelter and clothing. "We live in a tent without walls, but we are not afraid of anyone, for we have the protection of the creator, Yahowah. Many people do not have the eyes to see and the ears to hear. "They see things and they judge without understanding. This includes the government of Great Britain, who say that culture and religion are tolerant in Great Britain, but the Kingdom of Kubala has suffered trials and tribulations at the hands of authorities, who do not understand or tolerate. But the Kingdom of Kubala cannot be destroyed, for we are helped by the creator of the heavens and the earth, our God. Until then, no one will be able to destroy the Kingdom of Kubala." The Kubala group insist they are a forgotten tribe of Hebrews, and claim their forefathers were banished when Elizabeth I expelled "native black Jacobites". The King continued: "We follow the laws of the creator - everything belongs to the ones who made it. We do not believe that any authority owns the land. The earth belongs to the father. "We do not know about any eviction - all we know is that we are here to stay and establish our authority and power, just like our ancestors did." King Atehene has described their experience as a "journey of pilgrimage", and said he believed they were in Scotland to fulfil a 400-year-old prophecy. He explained: "The prophecy said, after 400 years, when my ancestors are destroyed from the land of Scotland, from the land of Great Britain, they will go into captivity and lose their identity. "But after 400 years, I will come and bring them back to the land of promise. I am following the ancestral call and the call of the gods. The calling from our creator to embark on this journey, is the most important thing in our life. It is a journey of hope - a pilgrimage."The Scottish Borders Council has been actively working with police in Scotland to address the ongoing situation. A representative stated: "This has included the provision of advice and information about housing options and other support services."
