PSL to Implement VAR technology from next season, promises Gayton McKenzie

McKenzie said his work on the matter is already done.
McKenzie explained that the Premier Soccer League ( PSL ) will be on track to implement VAR soon, as the funds have been released to the SA Football Association ( SAFA ).
The use of VAR has once again been one of the big talking points this season in the Betway Premiership, and the patience of the SA football fraternity appears to be wearing thin.
The Video Assistant Referee ( VAR ) will be coming to South African football next season, according to Minister of Sport and Recreation Gayton McKenzie .

'People are asking me where is the VAR?' Said McKenzie in a video post on his X profile on Thursday.
'I promised and I said the month of April. I've done it. The money is there, the advert went out. FIFA will tell you, they don't want the department to do it.
'They want Saffa to do it. So the R90 million is there, we went to Spain with the help of SuperSport again, we tested VAR. It works 100%.'
The matter now lies with Saffa, explained McKenzie.
'Now we're waiting for Saffa to announce the company that will win the tender to do VAR.
'So people, stop asking me where is VAR. I have done what I promised to do. There's nothing more I can do, the money is the most important [thing].
'SuperSport assisted us so next season there will be VAR. Let's give Saffa a chance to finalise. There will be VAR in our soccer in South Africa.'

Special reminder: Why Bulls have retired No 14 jersey
Last month, former Springbok and Bulls star Cornal Hendricks tragically passed away from a heart attack, with tributes and special messages pouring in ever since the news came to light. After returning to rugby after being diagnosed with a serious heart condition, Hendricks largely revived his career at the Bulls over the last few years, and the Pretoria-based franchise has led a number of special tributes to Hendricks since his death. One of these includes no longer fielding the No 14 jersey, having chosen to 'retire' the number in honour to Hendricks until the end of the season. Each jersey worn will also carry photos of Hendricks within the number on the back of the jerseys, with the Bulls hoping to go all the way in the URC in honour of the former winger. 'Many people were shocked and sad when his career was cut short in 2015,' Bulls boss Jake White recently commented as he shared memories of coaching Hendricks. 'When we had the opportunity to get him back on the park, he took that with open arms and made a remarkable use of his second lease in professional rugby. We all witnessed him leave no stone unturned as he inspired his teammates and the South African community through his story of hope and courage. 'It was a privilege and honour to have been his coach, a fantastic role model for the next generation and his appetite for life was infectious. Rugby has lost one of the good ones today.' URC: Kick off times for semi-finals
The Bulls and Sharks kept the South African flag flying in a drama-filled knockout round of the URC this past weekend, and they will now face off in an all-South African semi-final in Pretoria this Saturday. To qualify for the final four, the the Bulls had to deliver under pressure in a competitive encounter against Edinburgh in Pretoria on Saturday to register a 42-33 victory. Meanwhile, there was drama in Durban, where the Sharks and Munster drew 24-24 after 80 minutes, which forced the match into extra time, and then a penalty shootout, which the hosts won 6-4. Log-leaders Leinster will face the Glasgow Warriors in the first semi-final, at 15:45 (SA time) at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin this Saturday after they defeated the Scarlets 33-21 in the other quarter-final. The Bulls and Sharks will then clash from 18:15 at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria for a place in the Grand Final. Both home teams will be regarded as favourites going into the penultimate round of the competition, and both the Bulls and Sharks will certainly be determined to produce vastly improved performances. 'We didn't play particularly well in the first 20-30 minutes of the game, but then we got on top,' Sharks coach John Plumtree commented after the quarter-final. 'We had a couple of bad moments when they got to 21-10 and then we just clawed our way back in [to the game]. 'And going down to the kickers like that, I was just so proud of them.' Meanwhile, Bulls coach Jake White said that at least the team was consistently showing a fighting spirit. 'People think the team placed seventh must lose to the team that finishes second,' he said.
