Malaysia Strengthens ASEAN Collaboration On Digital Tech And AI
BANGKOK, June 25 (Bernama) -- Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo highlighted the nation's initiatives in advancing responsible artificial intelligence (AI) governance and fostering regional collaboration during the 3rd UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (GFEAI 2025) on Wednesday.
Gobind emphasised Malaysia's commitment to promoting responsible AI governance, encouraging regional partnerships, and ensuring that the country's progress aligns with globally recognised ethical standards.
'As AI continues to evolve, meaningful dialogue and international cooperation are essential for building a future that is inclusive, secure, and beneficial to all,' he said during the high-level ministerial panel titled Fostering Global Dialogue on AI for a Collective Future at the UNESCO GFEAI 2025.

Earlier, Gobind participated in a panel discussion titled 'From Readiness Assessment to Enhanced Institutional, Technical and Human Capacities in AI.'
During the session, he highlighted Malaysia's achievements, including strengthening nationwide connectivity, adopting a multi-faceted approach to infrastructure, talent, and trust development, and introducing data centre regulations to position Malaysia as a regional hub for data infrastructure.
'I am confident that many more commendable milestones lie ahead. That said, I firmly believe that the next phase of advancement must be underpinned by robust and forward-looking policies and regulations.
'At the Ministry of Digital, our commitment to driving this agenda remains unwavering. We will continue to strive for a digital future that is inclusive, secure, and sustainable,' he said.
Later in the day, Gobind held a bilateral meeting with Thailand's Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Prasert Jantararuangtong, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister.
Gobind said their discussion centred on opportunities for regional collaboration in digital technology and AI, with a particular focus on transformative applications in the agriculture, health, and transport sectors.

It appreciated against the yen at 2.9070/9120 from 2.9256/9296 and escalated versus the pound to 5.7631/7726 from 5.7707/7782.

Communications Ministry Among Three Ministries Recognised For Cutting Bureaucratic Red Tape
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications is among three ministries recognised for successfully implementing reforms to reduce bureaucratic red tape, earning a special certificate of appreciation for the achievement. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the ministry significantly improved the approval process for foreign film scripts, reducing the timeline from 30 days to just seven, resulting in regulatory cost savings of up to RM2.4 million per production. "This, in turn, enhances Malaysia's competitiveness as a preferred destination for international film production," he said in a Facebook post today. The Ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, received the special certificate from Shamsul Azri at a ceremony in Putrajaya yesterday. Another ministry recognised for its achievement is the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), where reforms were driven through the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), which successfully reduced the approval time for Electric Vehicle Charging Bay Plan Certifications from 28 days to just three. He added that JBPM also expedited the approval process for non-system-based technical plan certifications, reducing it from 30 days to just seven. 'This was achieved through streamlined procedures and the strengthening of the e-Premis system and development of a central data repository, resulting in annual regulatory cost savings of RM1.776 million,' he said. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) successfully reduced barriers to financing in the aerospace sector, generating RM17 million in regulatory savings for 50 small and medium enterprises by boosting production capacity by up to 30 percent. 'Gross profit margins increased by over 20 percent through automation and certification, further strengthening the supply chain and creating more high-skilled jobs. Reforms are being intensified and improvements accelerated,' he said.

10A and above SPM students to get matriculation placements: MOE

KUALA LUMPUR: All students who obtained 10As and above in last year's Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination and applied for the Matriculation Programme will be offered places, regardless of race or background. The Ministry of Education (MOE) said this was agreed upon at today's Cabinet Ministers' Meeting. "This includes students who obtained 10As and had A- results. This policy is the same as the one announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year. "This decision is made to ensure all top-performing students in the 2024 SPM examination have the opportunity to further their studies,' it said in a statement today. It added that the existing Bumiputera quota system for the Matriculation Programme remains unaffected.
