Who will win Viktoria Plzen vs Rangers? Our writers deliver predictions for Champions League showdown
Russell Martin's men defeated Viktoria Plzen 3-0 last midweek thanks to Djeidi Gassama's double and a penalty from Cyriel Dessers.
New boy Oliver Antman made quite the impression on his debut but after experiencing the highs of Europe once more, the Light Blues slipped up domestically once again in as many weeks as they dropped points at home to Dundee.

Skipper James Tavernier rescued a point from the spot in added-time to make it two draws from two games in the Premiership.
Despite leading by three goals, the message will be clear from Martin and his staff that the job is not done and it is only half-time.
Record Sports' top team of writers have delivered their predictions for the outcome of the second leg at the Doosan Arena.
Scott McDermott
It's Rangers' favourite scoreline at the minute and the same again will see Martin's side through to the play-off. These players have proved - in big European away games - they can get the job done and they're halfway there after a terrific display at Ibrox. Gers should score in Czech Republic which should kill off Plzen.
Viktoria Plzen 1 Rangers 1
Andy Newport
Russell Martin's short stint as Ibrox boss has been a rollercoaster so far but his side are firmly on track for the Champions League play-offs after last week's first leg win. The new look Light Blues have toiled badly domestically against compact defences but the onus will be on Plzen to come out and try to recover some pride after that hammering in Glasgow. Martin will hope his side again find the space to exploit.
Plzen 0 Rangers 2
Keith Jackson
It's midweek and a European tie so Russell Martin can relax in the knowledge that his players will actually fancy going to their work. The tie was effectively killed stone dead at Ibrox last week but Rangers can do us all a favour and boost the coefficient with an away win against a very average Czech side.
Viktoria Plzen 0 Rangers 2
Gavin Berry
It's job done for Russell Martin's side - or at least it should be - after their emphatic win at Ibrox. The Czechs will be the ones who have to go all out to get back in the tie and it will just be about making sure there are no dramas for Rangers.
Viktoria Plzen 1 Rangers 1
Scott Burns
I know Rangers have been poor domestically but I can see them getting another win in Europe. The Czechs aren't the strongest and I can see Russell Martin's team booking their place in the play-off in style with two wins.
Viktoria Plzen 1 Rangers 2
Michael Gannon
Rangers can hit the Euro switch again and see it out. Plzen will need to have a go and it'll leave plenty of space to exploit. Gers are more likely to add to their advantage and go through with room to spare.
Viktoria Plzen 1 Rangers 2

Sevilla's Loic Bade nearing transfer to Bayer Leverkusen
Sevilla's Loic Bade nearing transfer to Bayer Leverkusen originally appeared on The Sporting News Ever since joining Sevilla on loan in January 2023, centerback Loic Bade has stood as a crucial component to the Spanish club's defense, but German side Bayer Leverkusen are working to secure a transfer for the French international. According to football insider Fabrizio Romano, Bade reached an agreement with Leverkusen sometime last week, so both the player and the approaching club are in sync on this transfer. Now, Bade's fate rests with Leverkusen's ability to strike a deal with Sevilla, but Romano indicated that an agreement may be on the horizon. Last season, Bade started 32 matches for Sevilla across its La Liga campaign and Copa del Rey ventures, registering a goal and assist in that timespan, but his primary contributions came on the defensive end of the pitch. To that effect, Bade made 47 tackles, intercepted 29 passes and blocked 22 shots during his run of La Liga play. During his time in Spain, Bade has acquitted himself as one of the most talented young centerbacks in the league thanks to his combination of size (6-3, 190 lbs.), speed and ball distribution. In fact, Bade logged one of the best pass-completion rates among La Liga centerbacks by finding his intended recipient at an 85.7% clip. In recent weeks, Sevilla's defense has been a hot commodity on the transfer market with right back Juanlu Sanchez drawing interest from the Italian side Napoli, though an agreement between the two clubs has not yet been reached. READ MORE: Barcelona have closed their transfer window From a Leverkusen perspective, the German club is likely looking to bolster a back line that suffered the departure of Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool over the summer. Now that Xabi Alonso is no longer at the club, it could be important for Leverkusen to strengthen its defense if it hopes to reach similar heights during the 2025-26 season as it did previously under Alonso. Is the pressure on for Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone as they make 7th summer signing
Is the pressure on for Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone as they make 7th summer signing originally appeared on The Sporting News Atletico Madrid have been active in the transfer window announcing another signing in Giacamo Raspadori per their website This brings their summer transfer spend to 175 million euros according to They've bought Alex Baena from Villareal, Thiago Almada from Botafago, and the aforementioned Raspadori from Napoli to reinforce an attack that already has Julian Alvarez, Antoine Griezmann, and Alexander Sorloth. Baena and Almada are also players that can play in midfield and they've also bought in Johnny Cardaso who was a standout midfielder for Real Betis last year. They've brought in Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta and Marc Pubill to start at their fullback/wingback positions and David Hancko from Feynoord to reinforce their centre back group. Seven different starter level players brought in to reinforce a team that was pretty strong last year. Atletico Madrid haven't been known to be big spenders but that brings two straight summers where they are La Liga's biggest spenders. They have been known as a scrappy defensive team that Simeone has consistently helped overachieve and occasionally beat out the big teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona to titles. This year should be different though. They shouldn't be considered favorites for La Liga or the Champions League. At the same time, expectations should be higher for this season. They should be able to push Real Madrid and Barcelona closer than last season in La Liga, make it at least to the Champions League quarter final, and aim to win the Copa del Rey. Simeone will always be a made man with the Colchoneros, but there should be more pressure for his squad to perform this season.
