F1 Monaco GP now more of a lottery than ever
In an attempt to spice up racing around the tight, twisty streets of Monte Carlo, the FIA World Motor Sport Council confirmed in February that each driver must make a minimum of two pitstops during the race.

'I think everyone that is not starting on pole is welcoming the two-stop. Only the guy who will be on pole will be cursing a bit the fact that the year that he starts on pole is the year that is a mandatory two-stop, and a lot of unknowns could happen.
'I'm just a bit worried of teams playing a bit too much with the pace to help the other team-mates. I hope there's not too many gimmicks with that.'
Meanwhile, Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg feels the move will still not alter the fact that position on track is vital – regardless of how many times a driver is forced to pit.
'It is difficult to say and to predict,' he said when asked if a driver from the midfield could get lucky.

'It can be. But I think it all depends on where you start, your track position at the time, the timing of things. But it definitely adds another variability into the race that can go your way or really against you, I guess.'

NFL preseason live updates: Caleb Williams debuts under head coach Ben Johnson, Tyler Shough starts for Saints
[NFL preseason schedule | NFL team feeds | NFL preseason live blog] The second week of NFL preseason action is in full swing, and there are plenty of storylines to follow. Caleb Williams is starting for the Bears on national television Sunday night vs. the Bills, our first glimpse of the 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick under new head coach Ben Johnson. That game headlines Frank Schwab's top QB situations to watch this week. Later, Tyler Shough gets the start for the Saints as he competes with Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener for QB1 in New Orleans. He threw for 165 yards on 15-of-22 passing in the Saints' preseason opener. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] On Saturday, Giants rookie Jaxson Dart put up another impressive preseason performance coming off his gem last week against the Bills. On Saturday against the Jets, he completed 14 of 16 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown to go along with a TD run. Could starting QB Russell Wilson be hearing footsteps? Rookie Dillon Gabriel saw his first action of preseason Saturday, and it was an up-and-down day for the third-round pick. He finished 13-of-18 for 143 yards passing but also turned it over twice. He thew a pick 6 and also lost a fumble on a botched handoff exchange. He was otherwise solid and in control in the passing game. Fellow rookie QB Shedeur Sanders sat out due to an oblique injury. Much will be made in the coming days, especially on the talking heads shows, about his in-game comments of the QB competition he's in with Sanders. Gabriel later clarified he was referring to the media, not Sanders. Elsewhere in the QB world, the Colts battle for the starting job continues to heat up, with Daniel Jones ending up 7 of 11 passes for 101 yards while Anthony Richardson competed 6 of 11 passes for 73 yards. Those two appear to be neck-and-neck for the starting job, and head coach Shane Steichen told reporters he plans to decide the starter "very soon." Kevin O'Connell drops F-bomb while mic'd up on Vikings TV broadcast
NFL preseason games have added a different element to provide entertainment. As a way to give further insight into the sport, coaches and players are frequently mic'd up in contests that don't count. That can have drawbacks, as Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell learned on Saturday. The Minnesota coach was giving a live interview from the sideline when he dropped an F-bomb. Fox 9 In the third quarter of the Vikings' game against the Patriots at U.S. Bank Stadium, O'Connell was on with the Fox 9 broadcast. Advertisement 'I'm excited about this year's team and excited about this play-call, fellas,' O'Connell told the broadcasters. 'We've got a fast-motion …' At that point, O'Connell realized the Vikings were going to get called for an illegal formation penalty. 'Oh no! F–k … It's coming back,' a disappointed O'Connell told the announcers. Advertisement The Vikings lost the game, 20-12, to the Patriots. They are coming off a surprising season. They went 14-3 a year ago behind Sam Darnold and reached the playoffs, losing to the Rams. With Darnold now in Seattle, the Vikings are turning to J.J. McCarthy, the 2024 first-round pick who missed his whole rookie season with a knee injury.

NFL Scout Praises 'Uncommon' Abilities of Bears Quarterback Caleb Williams
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. There are fans of the Chicago Bears who are expecting the team to take a sizable leap forward this season. Last season was a mess for the Bears, as they lost 10 games in a row and finished 5-12, and that ineptitude cost Matt Eberflus his head coaching job with them. But they have made some solid offseason additions, and their young core, which includes wide receiver Rome Odunze, cornerback Jaylon Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams, has another year of experience under its belt. People across the NFL still seem split on Williams and whether he has what it takes to succeed big-time at the pro level. One scout of a rival team told Athlon Sports that despite Williams' struggles, he displayed tangible reasons to be hopeful for him moving forward. "'Caleb Williams was running for his life at times,' one rival scout told Athlon Sports. Still, the scout did add that he liked what he saw of the 23-year-old. 'Unlike most rookies, Williams displayed uncommon poise and improvisational ability, and his ad-libbing skills extended plays as he completed passes from a variety of angles.'" Read more: 49ers' Brock Purdy Gets Honest About Christian McCaffrey The book on Williams coming into the NFL was that he was great at freelancing and creating something out of nothing, but not so great in the pocket and at running scripted plays. In 2024, he threw for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns and completed 62.5% of his pass attempts. He posted an anemic 87.8 passer rating and 46.7 QBR. GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - JANUARY 5: Quarterback Caleb Williams #18 of the Chicago Bears warms up prior to an NFL football game against the Green Bay Packers, at Lambeau Field on January 5, 2025 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. MoreWhile at the University of Southern California, Williams threw for a total of 7,870 yards, 72 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 26 games. In 2022, his sophomore year of college, he was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and won the Heisman Trophy. One reason for hope regarding Williams this year is Chicago's revamped offensive line. Last year, he was sacked a whopping 68 times, which led the NFL by far. "'There's a lot of belief in Williams at Halas Hall,' the scout said, adding that he thinks the team did a nice job rebuilding the offense around their young quarterback — specifically the offensive line. 'The Bears were smart with their offseason moves, building a better offensive line by spending on Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman and Jonah Jackson to go with returning tackles Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright,' he said. 'They can be more competitive now and protect Williams.'" Odunze had a solid rookie year in 2024 with 54 catches, 734 yards and three touchdowns. Fellow wide receiver D.J. Moore has quietly been one of the NFL's most productive skill players over the last several years. Although he has never been named to the Pro Bowl, he has gone over 1,150 receiving yards in four of the last six seasons, and in 2024, he was just 34 yards away from reaching the 1,000-yard mark. Read more: Chargers Urged to Trade Key Wide Receiver Before Start of Regular Season Chicago's new head coach is Ben Johnson, who had been the Detroit Lions' offensive coordinator the previous three seasons. In Detroit, he helped build a winning culture that had been absent there for about 30 years, and he had a hand in quarterback Jared Goff elevating his game. The Bears have never had a quarterback who threw for 4,000 yards in a single season. In fact, their last legitimate franchise quarterback was Sid Luckman, who played during the 1940s, back in the days when NFL players still wore leather helmets.
