Korea Herald02-05-2025

Boy band Riize has set fans abuzz with the news of a tour taking the group across Asia beginning in July, coming via SM Entertainment on Thursday.
The boy band is set to visit 13 cities across Asia, including five in Japan, after kicking off the expedition in Seoul in July, under the title 'Riizing Loud.'
It will technically be the six-piece act's first such concert tour, although last year Riize visited 19 cities for its first fan concert tour, 'Riizing Day.'
The band also gave fans a taste of its upcoming first studio album, unveiling the music video for 'Bag Bad Back' on Thursday. The hip-hop tune is one of 10 tracks from the upcoming LP 'Odyssey,' which will be released May 19. The album comes about 11 months since its first EP, 'Riizing,' which topped iTunes albums charts in 10 regions and sold over 1 million copies.

BoA marks Japan debut anniversary with single, tour

BoA will release a single in Japan on Friday in celebration of the anniversary of her debut in the country, agency SM Entertainment said. It's her first new song for Japanese fans in three years, following her compilation album 'The Greatest,' which marked the 20th year since her first Japan release. She made her debut in Japan in 2000 with 'ID: Peace B' and, in a first for a Korean singer, claimed the top spot on Oricon's Weekly Album Ranking in 2002 with her first LP, 'Listen to My Heart.' The artist co-wrote the lyrics and melodies for the single 'Young & Free,' a medium-tempo tune full of summer vibes. BoA also announced plans to tour Japan for the first time in six years. The tour, dubbed 'BoA: One's Own,' is set to kick off in Osaka on Sept. 20 and will conclude in Tokyo on Nov. 1.

Hybe to sell entire stake in SM Entertainment to China's Tencent

K-pop powerhouse Hybe said Tuesday it will sell its entire stake in rival SM Entertainment to China's Tencent for 200 billion won ($145.5 million). In a regulatory filing, Hybe said it will dispose of 2,212,237 shares of SM Entertainment, which represents a 9.38 percent stake in the company. The shares will be sold at 110,000 won each, totaling about 243.3 billion won for the full transaction. The sale is scheduled to be completed Friday after the market closes through an after-hours block trade. Hybe acquired the stake in 2023 during a high-profile battle to take over SM Entertainment's management rights. "We divested non-core assets as part of a choice and concentration strategy," the company said. "Secured funds will be used to secure future growth engines," it added. (Yonhap)
