Gardaí nab motorist doing 210km/h on M8 over Bank Holiday weekend
Gardaí have been conducting a dedicated road traffic enforcement operation throughout the August Bank Holiday weekend which commenced at 7am on Thursday, July 31 and will continue until 7am Wednesday, August 6.
Gardaí stationed on the M8 in Mitchelstown, Cork over the August Bank Holiday weekend as part of the Bank Holiday Roads Policing Operation clocked one young motorist who was speeding at 210km/h in a 120 km/h zone.
The driver was arrested and their car was also seized.

A Garda spokesperson wrote on social media: 'As part of our Bank Holiday Roads Policing Operation, we're out checking that drivers are sticking to speed limits.
'Mitchelstown Gardaí arrested the young driver of this car along the M8 after he was clocked travelling 210km/h. The car was also seized.'
Drivers caught exceeding speed limits face a fixed charge fine of €160 and three penalty points. Failure to pay within 28 days increases the fine to €240. After 56 days, unpaid fines may lead to a court summons with fines of up to €1,000 and five penalty points upon conviction.

Murder investigation expected after discovery of man with stab wounds in Tipperary
Gardaí are expected to launch a murder investigation following the receipt of the results of a postmortem examination on Tuesday into the death of a man found with stab wounds in a house in Carrick-on-Suir in Co Tipperary early on Monday morning. The man, named locally as Ian Walsh (49) was found in a downstairs room of his house at Ravenswood in Carrick-on-Suir at around 3.30am on Monday by gardaí and emergency services when they were called to the house. An Irish Rail employee, Mr Walsh was pronounced dead at the scene by a local GP. His body remained at the scene after gardaí cordoned off the area and requested the services of the State Pathologist's Office and the Garda Technical Bureau from Dublin. Mr Walsh's remains were examined in situ by State Pathologist Dr Yvonne McCartney and were due to be removed at around 9pm on Monday night to University Hospital Waterford. It's expected that the postmortem on Tuesday will confirm that Mr Walsh died as a result of foul play. READ MORE Gardaí have not indicated whether or not they have recovered any weapon that might have been used in the killing, but it's understood that there was no sign of a forced entry at Mr Walsh's house. Gardaí believe that Mr Walsh may have been dead for some time before he was found and have not ruled out the possibility that he may have been killed some time over the weekend. Their last confirmed sighting of him alive is at 8pm on Friday night. Gardaí have carried out door-to-door inquiries in the Ravenswood and Cregg Road estates to try to establish if anyone saw Mr Walsh alive later than 8pm on Friday and whether anyone heard any disturbance at the house Gardaí have also begun canvassing houses in the area for CCTV footage that would help them identify anyone who may have entered or was seen in the vicinity of Mr Walsh's house in the last few days. Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information related to this incident to come forward, including any road users who were in the area of Cregg Road, Carrick-On-Suir between 8pm on Friday, August 1st and 3.30am on Monday, August 4th. Additionally, anyone who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and was travelling in the area at the time is asked to make it available to Gardaí at Clonmel Garda station on 052 617 7640, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Arrest made after man in his 30s allegedly assaulted in ealy hours in Sligo Town
A MAN IN his 30s has been arrested following an alleged assault that took place in Sligo Town in the early hours of this morning. A Garda spokesperson said members of the force and emergency services attended the scene at around 5:45am today. Advertisement A man in his 30s was taken to Sligo University Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. His condition was believed to be stable. Gardaí said the scene was preserved for technical examination. Man charged following death of a man (70s) found with injuries at house in Waterford
Gardaí in Waterford are appealing for witnesses after the death of a man aged in his 70s in Waterford City on Friday. Gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of an incident at the house in St Catherine's Grange shortly after 2pm. A man was discovered at the scene in an unresponsive condition. He was brought to University Hospital Waterford, where he died on Sunday. A man his 30s was arrested at the scene and was detained at a Garda station within the Waterford-Kilkenny Division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. READ MORE He was later charged and appeared before Waterford District Court on Sunday. The local Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist were notified and a postmortem examination is to be carried out. A technical and forensic examination at the scene has been completed. A senior officer is leading the investigation and a family liaison office is providing support to the deceased's family. An incident room has been established at Waterford Garda station.
