Eric Dane Announces ALS Diagnosis

Yara Sameh
Eric Dane has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
The 52-year-old actor shared his diagnosis with
People
, while affirming that his health has not impacted his plans to return for 'Euphoria' Season 3. He will be on the HBO series set in the coming days.
'I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter,' Dane said. 'I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of 'Euphoria' next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.'
ALS is a fatal, progressive degenerative disease that breaks down the nerves in the body — weakening muscles and causing eventual paralysis, impacting patients' ability to breathe, speak and move — has no known cure.
On 'Euphoria,' Dane plays Cal Jacobs, the strict father to Jacob Elordi's character Nate Jacobs. Per People, Dane will begin shooting his role for the long-developing third season on April 14.
Production on new episodes began in January, with Elordi, Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney among the other cast members confirmed to return.
'There's gonna be redemption [for Cal],' Dane told Variety after Season 2 aired, teasing the trajectory of his character in future episodes. 'I can't judge the character. That's a dead end street for any actor. So I didn't pass any judgments on Cal. But I did know that eventually there was going to be a moment of truth and some sort of redemption for him.'
Along with 'Euphoria,' Dane is also beloved for his multi-season turn as Dr. Mark Sloan on 'Grey's Anatomy' and for leading TNT's naval series 'The Last Ship,' as well as more villainous performances in 'Bad Boys: Ride or Die' and 'Burlesque.'

Grammy Awards Reveals Key Dates for 2026 Show, New Categories

Yara Sameh The Recording Academy has revealed the key dates, deadlines and rule amendments for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, taking place on Sun, February 1, 2026, at Arena in Los Angeles, with nominations set to be announced on Fri, November 7, 2025. Following its annual board meeting, it has also announced several new awards and changes to the awards process, effective immediately. The Grammys also announced a few updates to its rules and categories for this year's awards, with the full list of updates available in the Recording Academy's rulebook . In the country category, there will be a new award for best traditional country album, and the current best country album category will be renamed to best contemporary country album. In the general field, the Academy has changed a rule for the best new artist category so that artists who were previously featured on a record nominated for album of the year can still be nominated for best new artist if their contributions on the album were 20 percent or less. In the packaging field, the Academy is introducing a new category for best album cover, while best recording package and best boxed or special limited edition package are being consolidated into one category. And in the classical category, the Academy said 'composers and lyricists/librettists are now eligible for GRAMMY recognition alongside all other key creative personnel including artists, producers, and engineers on winning albums.' Music released between August 31, 2024 and August 30, 2025 will be eligible for Grammy consideration for the 68th Grammy Awards. The online entry period will run from July 16 to August 29, The Academy said. The first round of voting will run from October 3 through October 15, with nominations announced November 7, and the final round of Grammy voting runs from December 12 to January 5, 2026. 'The Academy's top priority is to represent the music people that we serve each year,' Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said in a statement. 'That entails listening carefully to our members to make sure our rules and guidelines reflect today's music and allow us to accurately recognize as many deserving creators as possible. As we kick off another exciting Grammy Season, we look forward to celebrating the amazing power of music and its ability to bring so many people together.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand

Eric Dane Breaks Silence on ALS Diagnosis: 'It's Not A Dream'

Yara Sameh Eric Dane is having his first sit-down interview since announcing that he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). On Thursday, Dane, 52, got emotional in a teaser clip for an upcoming interview with Diane Sawyer on Monday's episode of Good Morning America, in which he unpacks life with his ALS diagnosis. 'I wake up every day and I'm immediately reminded that this is happening,' he told Sawyer. 'It's not a dream.' The 30-second sneak peek shows Dane and Sawyer holding hands as they talk about life following his diagnosis. It ends with the "Euphoria" star breaking down in tears, showing a glimpse of how emotional the conversation will be. After recently returning to work on "Euphoria", Dane remains optimistic about what lies ahead. 'I don't think this is the end of my story. I don't feel like this is the end of me,' he said. The "Grey's Anatomy" alum announced his health news to People in April. "I have been diagnosed with ALS,' he shared. 'I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.' Dane is married to Rebecca Gayheart and the couple shares two children, Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13. 'I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time,' he added. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a rare degenerative disease that causes progressive paralysis of the muscles. Patients first experience twitching or weakness in a limb, often followed by slurred speech. According to the Mayo Clinic, because the disease affects the nerve cells in the brain and spine that control muscle movement, patients slowly lose their ability to speak, eat, walk, and breathe independently. There's no cure for ALS, and people usually live three to five years after diagnosis, according to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. However, some patients can live decades. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean News 3 Killed in Shooting Attack in Thailand
