Drone ban enforced in Thane amid security concerns

Commissionerate has clamped down on drone operations, imposing a comprehensive ban on all unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) within city limits, officials said on Wednesday.
The prohibition, effective from 14 May to 3 June, comes as authorities step up security measures across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The order specifically forbids all drone flights, regardless of purpose or operator, police officials told TOI.
"This is a preventive measure to maintain law and order," said a senior police official who requested anonymity. "The potential misuse of such devices could pose a significant threat to public safety."
Dr Shrikant Paropkari, Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters-1), Special Branch, who issued the order, warned that violators would face stringent action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with other applicable laws.
The ban extends to all forms of aerial equipment, including remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hand gliders, and hot air balloons.
This development follows similar restrictions implemented by Mumbai Police from 5 May, after the DGCA designated several areas as 'red zones' for drone operations. Recently, a 23-year-old was booked for flying a drone in Powai, highlighting the authorities' zero-tolerance approach.
Residents have been urged to report any unauthorised drone activity to the nearest police station or by calling the emergency number 112.

Faridabad suicide case: Family of 6 cut down to 1 after father jumps before train with 4 kids — what we know so far
Faridabad Suicide Case: A 45-year-old man from Bihar who lived with his family in Faridabad allegedly committed suicide by jumping before moving train with his four children in Ballabhgarh on Tuesday. All the five family members died on the spot after Golden Temple Express crushed them. According to eyewitnesses, Manoj Mehto clutched onto the children and refused to let them go even as they pleaded with him to be released. Moments later, the train ran over them, dismembering their body. The deceased identified as Manoj Mehto was a daily wage worker from Bihar's Sitamarhi resided in Subhash Colony with his family. Manoj Mehto is survived by his 36-year-old wife. It is alleged that her husband took the extreme step over suspected infidelity. The railway tracks where the tragic incident took place was located around 300 metres from their residence. According to railway police, his three sons were aged five, nine, and ten years while the youngest was 3 years old, PTI reported. Following an altercation with his wife, the man left the house with his children at around 12:15pm and informed his wife that he was taking them to a nearby park. As per TOI report, the mother had prepared parathas for breakfast that day. "The train, which was coming from Mumbai, crushed them under its wheels around 1.10pm," The Times of India quoted Govt Railway Police unit SHO Rajpal as saying. Manoj bought chips and cola for his children and made them sit under Elson Chowk flyover for about an hour near railway tracks. The loco pilot alerted authorities at Ballabhgarh station after which the police identified Manoj through his Aadhaar card found at the site. Besides this, a note with wife's phone number was also found, indicating premeditated actions. The remains were taken to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital mortuary for medical examination. Narrating the happenings of that morning Manoj's wife Preeti said, 'It was a normal Tuesday morning' and added, 'But I wasn't feeling well and had a lot of work to do at home, so I refused (to go). I told him to take the children out. They all left and never returned….'

Cash for bail case: Rouse Avenue Court record keeper takes back Delhi HC bail petition
NEW DELHI: A record keeper (ahlmad) posted at Rouse Avenue Court, accused of accepting bribes from undertrials to secure bail, has withdrawn his anticipatory bail plea from the Delhi High Court. Mukesh Kumar, who is under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), withdrew his plea on Wednesday, the day arguments were scheduled. Justice Tejas Karia allowed the withdrawal, granting liberty to file a fresh plea in the future. Appearing for Kumar, Advocate Ayush Jain requested the Court to direct the ACB to issue proper notice under Section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code before requiring the accused to join the investigation. He also sought permission for an advocate to be present during Kumar's statement. The ACB, represented by Additional Standing Counsel Sanjeev Bhandari, assured the Court that all legal procedures would be followed. The bail withdrawal comes amidst growing scrutiny. The High Court had recently transferred a Special Judge of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act from Rouse Avenue to North-West Rohini after the allegations against Kumar surfaced. Kumar was booked by the ACB on May 16 under Sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. According to the agency, he allegedly demanded and accepted bribes from accused persons in return for facilitating their bail.
