Move It calls for immediate reversal of order slashing its fleet
Motorcycle taxi-hailing firm Move It on Thursday urged the Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (MCT-TWG) to immediately overturn a recent order that slashed its fleet of rider-partners.
In a statement, Move It said it filed a supplemental appeal on May 22 regarding its motion for reconsideration. Filed last month, the motion asks the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-led MCT-TWG to stay the implementation of its April 2025 order to reduce the Move It fleet by 7,826 units.
According to the LTFRB order, Move It has 14,662 riders, which is beyond its 6,836 allocation. The LTFRB also suspended the motorcycle taxi service's operations in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.
In its appeal, Move It wants the agency to "formally declare that the motorcycle taxi company has a right to operate with 14,000 riders, including in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro."
The ride-hailing company warned that continued "inaction" on its appeal "could result in the layoff of more than 14,000 riders and could be detrimental to thousands of commuters, particularly in the face of the scheduled rehabilitation of EDSA next month."
"It is both arbitrary and unjust for the Honorable MCT-TWG to base a decision—one that effectively obliterates up to 14,000 jobs—on a single 'hearing' conducted solely by the Secretariat, without the presence of the Chairman, Vice Chairperson, the five other members of the Honorable MCT-TWG, and, most critically, without the participation of the directly affected parties, Move It and the riders," it said.
GMA News Online reached out to LTFRB Teofilo Guadiz III, no response yet has been received as of posting.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon earlier said the order slashing the Move It fleet will not be implemented for now as the company has already filed a motion for reconsideration with the LTFRB.
Move It said the order "also equates to more than 14,000 families which are in danger of losing a source of income and users who stand to lose another option for cost-efficient, safe and convenient transportation."
The ride-hailing firm clarified that it does not question the MCT-TWG's authority to regulate the motorcycle taxi sector, but stressed that "the power of regulation should be exercised in accordance with the tenets of due process as mandated by the 1987 Philippine Constitution, wherein '[n]o person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law...'"
"The enforcement of the order–which was issued in flagrant violation of the right to due process–will displace almost 7,000 riders in Metro Manila, 3,000 in Cebu, and 3,000 in CDO who depend on Move It for their livelihood," said Move It.
"Any further delay in the resolution of the motion will not just affect 14,000 riders and their families, but also the riding public, for whom the MCT pilot study was contemplated and envisioned," it said. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

Palace says no budget required for Pamilya Pass 1+3 program
President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. greets commuters inside a train of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) on Sunday, June 1, 2025, the official launch day of the Family Fare 1+3 Promo. Under the promo, families of four can have three free train rides at MRT-3 and LRT-2 every Sunday beginning June 1. Marcos was accompanied by the First Family, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, and other key government officials during the train ride. Yummie Dingding/ PPA POOL Malacañang on Wednesday said there is no budget required for the government's Family/Pamilya Pass 1+3 program or free MRT-3 and LRT-2 rides. ''Wala naman pong budget require for the MRT-3 at LRT-2 iyan din po ayon kay DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, dahil government run po ito at karaniwan naman po 'pag Sunday hindi naman po napupuno ang LRT at MRT natin,'' Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said in a briefing. (There's no budget required for the MRT-3 and LRT-2 because according to DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, this is government run and usually the LRT and MRT are not full during Sundays.) President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. earlier said the Family/Pamilya Pass 1+3 program was made in honor of Family Day and to celebrate Filipino families. In this program, families or barkadas of four members only need to pay for one passenger to ride the MRT-3, LRT-2 and LRT-1 every Sunday starting on June 1, 2025. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon had said that under the promo, only one member of the family or a group traveling together on the same trip needs to pay for a ticket and enter the turnstile while the rest of the family will pass via the side entrance. Aside from families, groups of four friends can also avail of the promo, Dizon said. Meanwhile, Castro also explained that the President had ordered for its implementation until June 2028 because he wants to give the next administration the right to decide on what programs it will enforce. ''So, wala pong budget na required for this. (There's no budget required for this and why only until June 2028? It's because the President wants to give the next administration the right to decide on what programs it will implement. That's a sign of respect from the President to the next leadership.) — BAP, GMA Integrated News

Common station, MRT-7 finished by 2027 — DOTr's Dizon
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon on Tuesday committed that the common station for LRT-1, MRT-3, and MRT-7 lines will open in 2027, coinciding with the start of the operation of MRT-7 which connects Metro Manila and Bulacan. Dizon said this prior to the approval of his ad interim appointment as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) by the transportation committee of the Commission on Appointments (CA). 'Ang goal po natin is makahanap na tayo ng bagong gagawa at magtatapos ng istasyon ng common station ngayong 2025 at ang timeline natin is kasabay sana ng opening ng MRT-7 ay tapos na rin ang common station, para by 2027 tapos na po finally,' he said. (Our goal is to find a new contractor to build and finish the common station by 2025. Our timeline is to finish the common station at the same time as the opening of the MRT-7, so that by 2027 it will finally be finished.) 'Parang 15 years na itong mga proyektong ito between common station, MRT-7, at ang koneksyon ng LRT-1 at MRT-3. Mahigit isang dekada na ito, halos 15 years na. Tingin ko, within the term of the President, lahat ng prokeytong ito ay matatapos na at operational,' he added. (These projects—the common station, MRT-7, and the connection of LRT-1 and MRT-3—have been going on for 15 years. It's been more than a decade, almost 15 years. I think, within the term of the President, all these projects will be completed and operational.) — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Cashless transactions in LRT, MRT to start in July —DOTr
Passengers can use debit cards, credit cards, and e-wallets to pay the fare in Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) starting July, eliminating long lines at train stations, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said. Instead of buying and reloading Beep cards or stored-value smart cards used in LRT and MRT, passengers can simply tap their phones or cards at the turnstile upon their entry to the railway platform. DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said the department will start deploying cashless turnstiles for the automatic fare collection (AFC) system next month. 'Mga bandang July ito, if I'm not mistaken. (This will be around July, if I'm not mistaken. We will implement it on the MRT and on our other trains. I know that credit cards can also be used. Just tap your phone. You don't need to buy a Beep card.) 'Nagtaka nga ako bakit hindi ito kaagad na-implement, 'yun naman pala kaya i-implement kaagad-agad itong cashless options sa MRT,' he added. (I was wondering why it wasn't implemented right away, the cashless options on the MRT can be implemented right away actually.) President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. earlier ordered the DOTr to develop an open-loop payment system that is integrated with multiple financial platforms, Dizon said. According to a report of EJ Gomez on GMA Integrated News' Unang Balita on Tuesday, some passengers said the cashless transaction in LRT and MRT is good news for them. The passengers said the move will eradicate long lines, hassles, and health risks. —Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
