Move It calls for immediate reversal of order slashing its fleet
In a statement, Move It said it filed a supplemental appeal on May 22 regarding its motion for reconsideration. Filed last month, the motion asks the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-led MCT-TWG to stay the implementation of its April 2025 order to reduce the Move It fleet by 7,826 units.
According to the LTFRB order, Move It has 14,662 riders, which is beyond its 6,836 allocation. The LTFRB also suspended the motorcycle taxi service's operations in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.
In its appeal, Move It wants the agency to "formally declare that the motorcycle taxi company has a right to operate with 14,000 riders, including in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro."
The ride-hailing company warned that continued "inaction" on its appeal "could result in the layoff of more than 14,000 riders and could be detrimental to thousands of commuters, particularly in the face of the scheduled rehabilitation of EDSA next month."
"It is both arbitrary and unjust for the Honorable MCT-TWG to base a decision—one that effectively obliterates up to 14,000 jobs—on a single 'hearing' conducted solely by the Secretariat, without the presence of the Chairman, Vice Chairperson, the five other members of the Honorable MCT-TWG, and, most critically, without the participation of the directly affected parties, Move It and the riders," it said.
GMA News Online reached out to LTFRB Teofilo Guadiz III, no response yet has been received as of posting.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon earlier said the order slashing the Move It fleet will not be implemented for now as the company has already filed a motion for reconsideration with the LTFRB.
Move It said the order "also equates to more than 14,000 families which are in danger of losing a source of income and users who stand to lose another option for cost-efficient, safe and convenient transportation."
The ride-hailing firm clarified that it does not question the MCT-TWG's authority to regulate the motorcycle taxi sector, but stressed that "the power of regulation should be exercised in accordance with the tenets of due process as mandated by the 1987 Philippine Constitution, wherein '[n]o person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law...'"
"The enforcement of the order–which was issued in flagrant violation of the right to due process–will displace almost 7,000 riders in Metro Manila, 3,000 in Cebu, and 3,000 in CDO who depend on Move It for their livelihood," said Move It.
"Any further delay in the resolution of the motion will not just affect 14,000 riders and their families, but also the riding public, for whom the MCT pilot study was contemplated and envisioned," it said. — VDV, GMA Integrated News

DOTr, Quezon City LGU to improve bike lanes, establish green spaces in city
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman and other officials inspect bike lanes in Quezon City on Monday, Aug. 11, 2025. Photo: Department of Transportation The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Quezon City local government are set to enhance active transport infrastructure and develop green spaces in the city. In a press statement, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said that expanding and upgrading bike lanes, public utility vehicle (PUV) stops, and pedestrian pathways reflect the government's commitment to creating a comprehensive, commuter-oriented public transport system. 'We really have to change our mindset,' Dizon said during an inspection of the bike lanes at Quezon Memorial Circle. He was accompanied by Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman and House Transportation Committee Chair Franz Pumaren. Key planned improvements in Quezon City include the expansion of existing bike lanes, construction of additional PUV stops, and the development of a directional island at the intersection of East Avenue and Elliptical Road to facilitate smoother traffic flow. 'This really sets the standard for our commuters, pedestrians and bikers—they feel safe, may greenery. Gagayahin natin ito sa ibang lugar [We will duplicate this in other areas],' Dizon added. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainable and active transportation, enhance commuter safety, and integrate green spaces in urban planning. As these projects roll out, the government aims to shift commuter behavior toward safer, more environmentally friendly transport options, consistent with the 'Komyuter Muna' campaign. No timelines were specified for the completion of the improvements. — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA Integrated News

DOTr: Clear MRT-3 walkways from vendors
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) ordered Monday the removal of vendors from the pathways of Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3). Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon made the statement after his inspection at the connected Taft and EDSA Stations of the MRT-3 and Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) systems in Pasay City. 'Naiintindihan naman natin sila at nakakaawa rin dahil kailangan nilang maghanapbuhay, pero they cannot be here. Nagpapasikip sila sa mga pasahero at pedestrian, kawawa rin sila,' Dizon said. (We understand them and we feel sorry for them because they need to make a living, but they cannot be here. The vendors are congesting the area, affecting the poor passengers and pedestrians.) The DOTr said the department and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will work together in clearing operations in MRT-3 north and southbound walkways. Aside from this, Dizon also called out a mall for allegedly charging vendors for their supposed rent at the MRT-3 southbound exit considering that the space is owned by the government. Dizon said the charging the vendors is illegal. GMA News Online has sought comment from the establishment but it has yet to provide a statement as of posting time.

Transport groups push for provisional P1 fare hike
Several transport groups have sought a provisional P1 fare hike following the big-time oil price hike of about P1 per liter this week. According to Joseph Morong's Wednesday report on '24 Oras,' the recent oil price hike caused diesel prices to reach P51.40 to P70.45 per liter, and gasoline prices, P50.50 to P66.55 per liter. On Tuesday, Aug. 7, seven transport organizations which dubbed themselves the "Magnificent 7" met with Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman Teofilo Guadiz III. 'Pang apat na taas na ito, sa computation ko, nasa P4.50 na ang itinaas ng diesel kada litro… hindi na makakaya. Lahat sa modern at sa traditional. Piso lang, malayo, malapit,' said Obet Martin, Pasang Masda president. (This is the fourth increase . Based on my computation, diesel has gone up by around P4.50 per liter. It's becoming unbearable. It affects both modern and traditional jeepneys. We propose a P1 fare hike for both short and long trips.) The groups said they will file the petition next week. However, a commuter expressed opposition to the proposed fare hike, noting that it will take more from their savings. Meanwhile, another commuter agreed to the proposed fare hike, saying that it's better than having no public transportation. The LTFRB opposed the idea of a fare hike. 'Kasi may pagkukunan ako eh. At ayoko sanang mabigatan yung mga tao (because I have a source, and I didn't want to burden the people),' Guadiz said. He added that a P2.5 billion fuel subsidy is allocated in the government's budget, which can be given to the following transportation operators: Tricycle P1,000 Delivery Trucks P1,500 UV Express P5,000 Traditional Jeep P7,000 Modern Jeep P8,000 - P9,000 However, the voucher can only be distributed once crude oil prices reach $80 per barrel in the world market.'Kung hindi mag-reach yun $80, ibig sabihin, hindi pa gaanong mataas ang presyo ng gasolina. But just the same, we will hear their petition. There might be other reasons, like yung pagtaas ng cost of living, yung sahod ng mga empleyado, yung piyesa ng mga gamit nila,' Guadiz said.(If it doesn't reach $80, it means fuel prices aren't that costly yet. But just the same, we will hear their petition. There might be other reasons, like the rising cost of living, employee wages, or the price of spare parts for their vehicles.)
