TOO MUCH Orlagh Nolan stars as Dublin storm to seventh All-Ireland crown with dominant win over Meath
ORLAGH NOLAN marked her first start in over a year by leading Dublin to seventh heaven.
It has been a fairytale comeback for the Ballinteer St John's forward, who only returned from an ACL knee injury as a sub in the semi-final win over Galway.

But she was quick to deliver a reminder of her importance to the cause with a player-of-the-match display as the Dubs took their tally of All-Ireland ladies SFC titles to seven.
In front of 48,089 spectators at Croke Park, the Sky Blues were utterly dominant as they atoned for the 2021 defeat to Meath that cost them a fifth Brendan Martin Cup on the spin.
Aided by goals from Nicole Owens and Niamh Hetherton, they were 13 points ahead by the 24th minute.
The gap was briefly cut to eight after the change of ends but Dublin's prospects of regaining a crown they last won in 2023 were never in jeopardy.
It was the perfect climax to the first year of the dual reign of Paul Casey and Derek Murray, who had big shoes to fill when they succeeded five-time All-Ireland-winning gaffer Mick Bohan last December.
On Nolan's performance, Casey beamed: "When we were up at Clonshaugh and Craobh Chiaráin in the dark and the muck, Orla was in the gym and she was working so hard to come back. She always did it with a smile on her face.
"We would love to have had her back playing full games, maybe in the quarter-final, but our medical team were very strict in terms of just easing her back into it.
"But it fell perfectly for her to have her first start today."
Aiming to avoid being beaten by their neighbours for the fourth time this season, Meath were buoyed by dethroning 2024 champions Kerry in their semi-final.
Their chances of claiming a third title in five seasons were hindered by the unavailability of Katie Newe, who was ruled out with a knee injury sustained against the Kingdom.

Nevertheless, there was no stopping the blue wave as Dublin produced a performance that Casey rated as their best of the season.
The joint-manager said: "I thought they were just superb out there today. At times, their composure on the ball, the scores they got – their conversion rate must have been up around 80 per cent. It was excellent.
"But I thought defensively, and when I talk about defensively, it's from number 15 back to Abby in goals. They were superb.
"But it was all over the pitch. I think everybody played close to their best. To do it on this day of all days is very, very satisfying."
Casey was thrilled with the contribution of his mean rearguard, who restricted Meath to just four points from play.
At the other end of the pitch, the input was equally impressive as Hannah Tyrrell, Carla Rowe and Kate Sullivan combined for 0-13.
With 8-38 to her name, Tyrrell ends 2025 as the Championship's leading scorer. But there was an unfortunate ending to her last act as an inter-county footballer.
The Na Fianna woman, who turns 35 next week, limped off with what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the closing stages. Still, it is unlikely to tarnish her triumphant swansong.
Dublin committed nine first-half fouls within scoring range, yet Meath had just 0-4 on the board by half-time.
Emma Duggan frees were responsible for that entire tally as the Royals failed to score from play while attacking the Hill 16 end.
A dismal first half, which they ended with a 40 per cent conversion rate, was epitomised when a relatively straightforward effort by Duggan's standards came back off the post.
The pace and power of Vikki Wall always resembled Meath's most likely source of progress.
She dragged an early goal chance wide, though the 2024 AFLW Premiership winner was unhappy that Leah Caffrey was not penalised for grabbing her jersey before she pulled the trigger.
It did not take long for things to look ominous for Meath. After Tyrrell got Dublin up and running with a pair of points, their first goal arrived via Owens.
Niamh Hetherton did well to keep the ball in play, before Rowe fended off Mary Kate Lynch.
The Dublin skipper teed up Owens, who neatly tucked the ball away to leave her side 1-2 to 0-0 in front after six minutes.
Hetherton had the ball in the net on 21 minutes, only for the score to be ruled out as ref Gus Chapman had already blown for a free that was converted by Tyrrell.
But Hetherton did get her goal just a minute later. With the Dubs making inroads from their press on the Meath kickout, Hetherton was released by Éilish O'Dowd.
The Clontarf powerhouse expertly turned inside Lynch and unleashed a ferocious shot that left Meath goalkeeper Robyn Murray with no chance.
Sullivan followed up with the third of her four points, leaving Dublin in a 2-9 to 0-2 lead with six minutes remaining in the first half.
A couple of Duggan frees put a slightly better complexion on the scoreboard for Meath at the interval.
She added two more after the restart and Wall also chipped in as their outlook seemed somewhat more promising at 2-9 to 0-7.
If the winds of change were blowing, Meath's resurgence was more of a moderate breeze than a storm. In any case, it was sufficiently weathered.
A free from Rowe ended a 15-minute barren spell for Dublin. Tyrrell and Sullivan then added to their tallies and the 12-in-a-row Leinster champions remained in the driving seat down the stretch.
Meath boss Shane McCormack said: "Dublin were a little bit hungrier, to be honest. In the first five or ten minutes, they hit the blocks running.
"Dublin got ahead with the two goals and when any Dublin team get ahead, they're very hard to claw back.
"But credit to Dublin today, they're a super team with multiple All-Stars and All-Ireland medal winners.
"But we had 16 new girls onto the panel from last year and this year. I think nine girls got their first ever senior start in an All-Ireland final today, so there are a lot of positives.
"It is healthy, even with the Under-20s winning the Leinster the other night as well. So it's very positive for Meath ladies football."

Kerry FC new boy Ewan Lee strikes back to earn draw on road to Treaty United

Treaty United 1 Kerry FC 1 Ewan Lee's first Kerry FC goal six minutes from time was enough to earn Colin Healy's side a point against Treaty United in the Markets Field on Monday evening. Patrick Ferry had initially given the home side the lead just after the hour mark with a superbly taken header, but Healy's attacking substitutions turned the tide, and Kerry took advantage of Treaty trying to sit in and protect their lead. It means a total of four points from a possible six for Kerry on the Bank Holiday weekend, a much-needed boost in the league standings after a run of five without a win prior. The state of the playing surface dominated the pre-match discussion in the Markets Field. The Kerry players walked out for their usual pre-match walk an hour before kick-off and discovered several divots that, in all honesty, looked more akin to a driving range than a football pitch. As a result, the opening twenty minutes of the tie were lethargic, as both sets of players struggled to judge the weight of the pass, which was also hindered by a strong breeze. The away side, though, did have the majority of the possession, but created nothing of note. It took until the thirty-minute mark of the game for the first action in either final third, with the home side creating two chances in quick succession. Mark Byrne's looping header drifted wide of Matthew Connor's post; meanwhile, Lee Devitt's snapshot from the edge of the area sailed over the bar a minute later. Five minutes into the second half, Kerry created their first meaningful scoring attempt. Seán O'Connell's left-footed corner sailed towards the back post whilst Ronan Teahan peeled around the back of the attacking bunch, completely unmarked, but couldn't steer his header on target. Treaty United were almost gifted the opening goal of the game on the hour mark. Samuel Aladesnausi turned over the ball in his own box to Mark Byrne, whose subsequent shot from ten yards was well saved by Connor in the Kerry net. Just five minutes later, the home side broke the deadlock. With the game in a complete lull at the time, it felt like the opening goal needed to come from a moment of real quality, and full-back Evan O'Connor's assist was just that.. The right-footed cross from deep by O'Connor was pounced on by Patrick Ferry, who did well to head past Connor at the near post. After going behind, Kerry boss Colin Healy wasted no time changing the shape, introducing Brosnan, Amechi, and McGrath to try and get back level. Despite the attacking changes, their best chance of the game fell to centre-half Ewan Lee. Kerry once again used the drifting around the back tactic from a set piece, this time from an Oran Crowe free kick, but once again the resulting effort drifted just past the post. Just six minutes from time, Kerry found the equaliser. It was clear that set pieces would be their route back into the tie, and on the third major chance from dead-ball situations, they converted. A long throw from Samuel Aladesnausi caused chaos in the box, with Ewan Lee eventually managing to bundle the ball home for his first Kerry goal in front of the travelling support. Tensions began to spill over towards the end of the game, it was a Munster derby after all, but both sides committing tactical fouls to stop counterattacks within thirty seconds of each other saw the yellow cards fly in injury time. All in all, a fantastic weekend for Colin Healy's Kerry FC side, who return home to face Finn Harps in Mounthawk Park on Friday night. John Cleary expected to remain in charge of Cork senior footballers for 2026

John Cleary is expected to remain in charge of the Cork senior footballers for a fourth full season in 2026. The Cork County Board meet on Tuesday night where further light could be shed on the Castlehaven man's future in the position. There has been suggestions that there may be changes in Cleary's management team but there are strong indications he will be at the helm having initially taken over from Keith Ricken on a temporary basis in 2022. Cleary's management team for the past three seasons has comprised coach Kevin Walsh, selectors Micheál Ó Croinín, James Loughrey and Barry Corkery and performance coach Rob Heffernan. For the second year in a row, Cork bowed out in at the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final stages when they lost to Dublin. They defeated Roscommon to make the knock-out stages having beaten Donegal in the 2024 group phase before exiting the championship at the hands of Louth. Speaking to the Irish Examiner last month, Cork chairman Pat Horgan said they hoped to confirm their senior management team this week. 'We hope to be in a position by August 5, at our next county board meeting, to have sorted the senior football. We will be speaking to John and hopefully we will have that sorted by then.' Cork will avoid a third consecutive Munster semi-final meeting against Kerry in 2026 following the provincial council's decision on Thursday to seed their top two league finishers in 2024 in separate semi-finals. Horgan has placed a strong emphasis on Cork returning to Division 1. This year, they were one win short of making the top two in Division 2. They had four home games and could have the same again in 2026 as it is the start of a new two-year cycle. Like Cleary, Pat Ryan's initial three-year term as senior hurling manager has concluded but there are hopes he too will agree to remain at the helm. Despite a successive All-Ireland final defeat, Cork claimed this year's Division 1 and Munster honours. Meanwhile, Davy Fitzgerald is set to remain on for a second season in charge of Antrim. The Saffrons retained their Division 1B status in 2025 but were relegated from the Leinster championship and will contest the Joe McDonagh Cup. It is also anticipated in Galway that Pádraic Joyce will stay in charge for a seventh season. The two-time All-Ireland SFC winner's recent three-year stint concluded with the All-Ireland quarter-final loss to Meath.

Limerick's Colin Ryan regains All-Ireland Poc Fada title

Limerick's Colin Ryan hailed a sweet win after regaining the M. Donnelly All-Ireland Poc Fada title after three seasons of near misses. The 2021 winner braved high winds - which rendered almost half of the traditional 5km course unplayable - to make off with the silverware having finished second in each of the last three seasons. Two of the four sections on the Annaverna Mountain course were bypassed as a result of gale force gusting winds. But 2018 All-Ireland SHC medallist Ryan, who also lined out in the 2017 All-Ireland U-21 final win with Limerick, held his nerve for a sweet win. He shoved Offaly star Cillian Kiely into second place, defeating the 2018 and 2019 winner by just 13 metres overall. Colin Ryan of Limerick with his son Fionn. Pic: Piaras Ó Mídheach/Sportsfile Kerry man and Kilkenny hurler Fionan Mackessy, chasing a three-in-a-row of titles after his 2023 and 2024 wins, could only finish third in County Louth. Ryan's win was all the more impressive as he played at centre-back for his club Pallasgreen in the Limerick IHC on Sunday afternoon. Asked where the win ranks in his career achievements, Ryan said it's close to the top. "It's right up there for me," he said. "You're on your own, compared to playing with the club or in a team. So it's that bit tougher mentally. You're striking by yourself and there's no-one to help you with that strike, or to dig you out of a hole. "So I put this win right up there in my career. The 2021 win was special but I'd say this was even more special having come second the last three years. "To get over the line was great because you'd wonder at times would it happen again." It was Ryan's first win with his young son, Fionn. His partner, Grace, along with family members and friends, were on hand for support. Ryan completed the course in 25 pucks, the same as Kiely and Mackessy. But the 60 metres he added on from the ball going beyond the first turning point, and the finish line, won it for him. Powerhouse Kiely could only add on 47 metres and Kerry native Mackessy 35 metres. Ryan's last puck helpfully hit a rock after crossing the finish line and bounced on several metres, a stroke of good fortune. "Every bit counts when it comes down to metres," said Ryan. "I knew coming up for my last shot, we'd heard that Cillian was going well so we knew that if we hit a good one, we could win it. Thankfully I hit a rock! It took a nice little bounce and, look, it's a game of inches. It was great to get that bit of luck." Cillian Kiely of Offaly competing in the Senior Hurling competition during the M. But there was a huge ovation for Cork's Molly Lynch who completed a five-in-a-row of senior camogie wins. The goalkeeper required just 27 pucks, four ahead of the next competitor, to complete what was a full camogie course. Former champion Killian Phelan of Kilkenny won the Paul Ward Cup, awarded for the longest single puck on the day. Westmeath's Conor Raleigh won the U-16 boys title, narrowly edging out Galway's Oran Stratford while Offaly's Siofra Ginty was the outstanding U-16 camogie participant, taking the title with two pucks to spare.
