CBS viewers left shocked by risqué moment between Julie Chen Moonves and Big Brother contestant - following husband's sex scandal
The moment also triggered renewed scrutiny over her embattled legacy as the wife of disgraced former CBS chief Les Moonves, 75.
The shocking exchange unfolded during just before a live vote and eviction on the reality TV show.
It saw Chen Moonves check in with the house guests including black contestant Will Williams, a 50-year-old retired Army captain, who wanted to say hi to his wife on air.
'Shout out to my family and shout out to my babe and my chocolate drop, Gwen,' Will said.
Chen Moonves, 55, smiling playfully, leaned into the moment - and then crossed a line that many viewers couldn't believe they'd just heard.
'Will, am I your lemon drop then?', Chen Moonves asked without missing a beat.
The comment immediately set off pandemonium inside the Big Brother house.
Williams stood up in shock while the gathered house guests all erupted with laughter.
Chen Moonves appeared to recoil in embarrassment realizing what she'd just said.
'I'm just kidding. Settle down,' she said moments later, attempting to regain control as the contestants continued to howl with laughter. 'Tell your wife it was a joke! Now we have business…'
Viewers on social media exploded with many stunned that Chen Moonves would have make such a remark to a married contestant on national television.
Others questioned the racial implications of the 'lemon drop' comment, especially in the context of her husband's very public fall from grace following multiple sexual misconduct allegations.
'She said that on national TV!!! Someone's about to get real offended,' one user wrote on TikTok.
'The immediate regret in her voice and trying to walk it back - this is incredible,' another posted to X.
'My. Jaw. Dropped. It was so good,' wrote a third.
'Is this literally not racist cause lemon drops are yellow and…' a fourth asked bluntly.
The retired Army Captain initially seemed to laugh off the comment made by Chen Moonves
The viral moment, though just seconds long, immediately brought renewed attention to Chen Moonves's controversial past - and the scandal that forced her husband out of the network she still represents and broadcasts.
Although she has attempted to distance herself from her husband's public disgrace, Chen Moonves remains inseparable in the public imagination from Les Moonves, the disgraced former CEO and chairman of CBS Corporation who was forced out in 2018, after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct spanning three decades.
Moonves, once one of the most powerful executives in Hollywood, allegedly subjected women to groping, forced oral sex, and retaliation - charges he vehemently denies.
At the time, Chen Moonves publicly backed her husband and even adopted her full married name - Julie Chen Moonves - on-air, in a move widely viewed as a symbolic declaration of loyalty while the CBS network distanced itself from the scandal.
Behind the scenes, the fallout was personal with Chen Moonves ousted from The Talk chat show, a position she later said she didn't leave voluntarily.
'That was a hard time,' Chen told ABC News. 'I felt stabbed in the back. I was, you know? I don't know if I could've reconciled if I didn't have God in my life.'
Les Moonves, the disgraced former CEO and chairman of CBS Corporation was forced out in 2018 after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct spanning three decades
Chen Moonves has since turned to religion, publishing an audio memoir titled But First, God and leaning heavily into her faith as a way to reframe her public identity.
'Julie Chen before she found God was a self-absorbed, career-minded, vain, gossipy, fun to be with, but probably kind of a shallow person,' she confessed.
'Julie Chen Moonves, who now knows the Lord, is someone who wants to help others, who wants to look at everyone with a soft heart.'
But Thursday night's lemon-drop flirtation seemed to break from that rebranded image - and reignited questions about her role as a public figure on a major network.
Despite his ouster and years of legal wrangling, Moonves and CBS remain linked.
In 2021, he gave up a $120 million severance package in a settlement with ViacomCBS. The company then declared the matter 'resolved.'
Married in 2004, Julie and Les have remained together, raising their son Charlie.
'We leaned on each other and we knew that nothing could break us,' Chen Moonves told People while promoting her memoir last year. 'It was our love and our foundation that got us through.'
Still, critics say Chen Moonves presence on Big Brother continues to raise ethical questions for CBS.

'Ghost lashes' are the latest makeup trend - but Gen Z think it's a recession indicator
TikTok's latest lash trend has been leaving users divided, with some championing the clean girl look, while others think the lowkey style is linked to an economic downturn They might sound scary, but 'ghost lashes' are an emerging beauty trend – and no it doesn't involve painting them white. Instead, the trend refers to opting for a much softer mascara (or even no-mascara look). Now, some on social media are arguing that it's another recession indicator. If you've been scrolling through social media over the past few months, you'll probably have seen several prominent celebrities like Dua Lipa, Hailey Bieber and Addison Rae sporting very pared-back eye looks. It's also gained traction on TikTok, with the trend gaining millions of views over the past month. But while many online have been celebrating the more lowkey look, with some even joking it's 'a win for the lazy girl community', others think it's more closely linked to a recession. 'Ghost lashes really are grasping,' one TikTok user said. Another wrote in a caption: 'It's a trend to cover up how less people can afford to spend more money on themselves have to resort to strategic expenditure.' READ MORE: 'I switched my perfume to a cheaper alternative - and I've never had so many compliments' However, Saffron Hughes, professional makeup artist at believes it's closely linked to an increased emphasis on skincare and hair health – which has resulted in simpler makeup looks. She says: 'There's a growing awareness around lash care. Clients are asking how to strengthen their natural lashes or give them a break from daily mascara. Ghost lashes meet that need. They work with your natural lashes rather than against them.' Additionally, the look also wears better in the UK's recent spate of hot weather. 'In heat, mascara can smudge or feel sticky,' she adds. 'Ghost lashes are breathable. They're ideal for beach days, city heat, or just a more laid-back vibe.' How Saffron recommends first starting off with a completely clean base. She says: 'Any leftover product or oil will stop them from curling properly. Micellar water is ideal as it cleans without irritating the eyes.' Equally, since the look relies on healthy well-conditioned lashes, Saffron suggests using a serum to help, which can add 'strength, shine and flexibility.' She adds: 'I tell clients to use it every night for at least four weeks. That consistency makes all the difference.' The next step is to go in with your lash curler. Saffron says to aim for a 'soft lift' rather than a more dramatic bend. She explains: "Start at the base and pulse gently upwards. Heated curlers give a smoother result, but even a classic curler will work if you're careful.' After this, you can go in with a mascara if you wish. While some people are skipping lash-defining tool entirely, Saffron adds that you can still add a little definition by opting for a clear or brown formula. She says: 'Apply from the roots to the middle of the lashes only. It stops the tips from looking too thick.' Of course, the rest of your eye makeup is important, too. Saffron suggests staying clear of bold eyeshadow or eyeliner, which 'will distract from the softness of ghost lashes'. If you still want to add something a little extra, she recommends tapping a small amount of cream highlighter into the inner corners to brighten the eye without overpowering it. However, if it's all sounding like a bit too much effort for everyday, Saffron says you can also opt for a lash lift and tint which can give you a curl and colour which lasts for weeks. She says: 'I recommend it to clients going on holiday or anyone wanting less maintenance.'

Tesco shoppers spot new flavour of popular chocolate bar in stores – it's supersized & tastes ‘seriously good'
TESCO shoppers are racing to stores to get their hands on the brand new, "seriously good" flavour of a much-loved chocolate bar. The supersized salted caramel flavoured bar was quickly spotted by eagle-eyed customers. Brand new flavour of popular chocolate bar This flavour is the latest addition to the beloved KitKat Chunky range. The bar combines the classic crispy wafer with a layer of rich salted caramel. Retailing for £1.50 a pop, the limited edition bar has been dubbed the perfect balance of sweet and salty. It is also twice the treat, coming in a supersized duo packet. The bar sends shoppers into a frenzy Thrilled Tesco customers have been quick to express their excitement over the new product. After spotting the treat in stores, one customer took to Facebook to spread the news. The post was met with lots of enthusiasm by chocolate lovers, with one writing, "THESE ARE SERIOUSLY GOOD." Another happy customer added: "These are lovely." One TikTok chocolate connoisseur said: "The star of the show is the salted caramel. "It's a soft, slightly gooey caramel that melts beautifully with the chocolate." The review concluded: "This is a fantastic addition to the KitKat Chunky lineup." Viral 'Dubai-style' chocolate is pulled from UK supermarket shelves over dangerous health risk New chocolate bar flavours hit stores Shoppers were also quick to spot another limited edition KitKat bar in stores earlier this month. The rare KitKat Chunky Funky bar made its return to Sainsbury's shelves, sending chocolate-lovers racing to get their hands on the treat. The sought-after snack features a cocoa wafer in a marbled milk chocolate and white coating. Shoppers were quick to express their excitement with one describing the chocolate as "absolutely brilliant." This comes after Nestle revealed it would be launching three new chocolate bars in June of this year. Joining the Chunky Funky and Chunky Salted Caramel is a Blue Riband Vanilla flavour. The triple launch couldn't have come at a better time, with Nestlé fans still reeling from the shock axe of Clusters, a breakfast staple loved by many. It comes hot on the heels of the disappearance of Cheerios Vanilla O's, also binned by the brand last summer. How to save money on chocolate We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar. Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs... Go own brand - if you're not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you'll save by going for the supermarket's own brand bars. Shop around - if you've spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it's cheaper elsewhere. Websites like let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you're getting the best deal. Look out for yellow stickers - supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they've been reduced. They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged. Buy bigger bars - most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar. So if you've got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.
