Lord Sebastian Coe named chair-designate for Old Trafford Regeneration project
Lord Coe, who chaired London's 2012 Olympic and Paralympic bid, has been appointed as chair-designate of the Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) for the Old Trafford Regeneration project.
The former IOC president previously chaired a task force set up by United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe to look at stadium options for United amid a wider regeneration of the surrounding area.

He will now play a key part in the development of the 100,000-seater stadium, which Ratcliffe wants to be the 'Wembley of the north'.
Coe's appointment was announced at an event in Manchester city centre on Wednesday.
He said in a statement which appeared on Manchester United's website: 'Throughout my career, I've seen the difference that sports-led regeneration can make in fostering strong communities and acting as a catalyst for economic growth.
'That was certainly true of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics – and now, I believe, Greater Manchester's moment has come.
'Working with Trafford Council and the Mayor, there's huge potential to bring new homes and jobs to the area around the Manchester United stadium. And looking ahead, I see a chance to bring the FIFA Women's World Cup to a new Old Trafford Stadium in 2035. The home nations are the sole bidder, which presents a rare opportunity to bid to host the global football family.
'But this is about so much more than just a stadium. It's about listening to and working with residents to create a vibrant, inclusive district, with high quality housing, green spaces, world class leisure and education facilities, and improved transport links.
'Twenty years on from securing the Olympic and Paralympic Games for this country, I'm ready to help deliver a vision of equal scale and ambition. I can't wait to get started.'
United revealed a potential design for their new home and chief executive Omar Berrada says this is a big step forward.
'This is an exciting decade for the region, and we warmly welcome the inclusion of the Old Trafford Regeneration project at the heart of the Greater Manchester Strategy.
'We are also delighted by the appointment of Lord Coe as chair-designate of the Mayoral Development Corporation; the continuity it brings for the wider project will be a huge positive.
'In addition, Lord Coe's proven leadership and track record in delivering transformational projects will be invaluable as we work together to turn our collective vision into reality.
'In March, we announced our ambition for a new stadium and since then we have been progressing those plans.
'Today's announcement is a significant step forward in our shared vision for the revival of this area of the city that requires investment to thrive again.'

David de Gea lays down challenge to Man Utd transfer target - 'It isn't enough'
Fiorentina striker Moise Kean has enjoyed a stellar season, which has caught Manchester United's attention, and David de Gea has called on the Italian to continue producing Fiorentina frontman Moise Kean has been told "one good year isn't enough" after excelling in Serie A - which has attracted the attention of Manchester United. The Italian has endured some less memorable stints in his career, previously struggling to make an impact during his time at Everton. The Toffees signed Kean from Juventus and then sold him back there after he couldn't deliver consistently. Now he's proving his worth after finding a home in Florence. Last term Kean scored a career high 25 goals in 44 games and was named in the Serie A Team of the Season. Interest in him bloomed when it emerged he had a £44.5m release contract in his contract - but the deadline to activate it has reportedly passed. United are looking to bolster their forward line and want a No 9 to compliment new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. They've also been linked with the likes of Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Kean is among those names on their shortlist but ex-United star David de Gea has told his new team-mate that his stellar season in front of goal cannot be a one off and he must replicate his numbers. De Gea told Italian outlet Cronache: "When I arrived, my Italian was terrible and we spoke in English. Now I've improved and I communicate with him [Kean] more easily. He had an excellent season, but now for me he needs to have another good year, and then another, and so on. "One good year isn't enough, he needs to continue like this and build on what he's done. He's put in some very good numbers, but he needs to keep it up and prove he can do it over time." De Gea has revealed he would never have stayed to play in England if it wasn't for United despite his contract being allowed to run down before leaving in 2023. The Spaniard spent more than a decade in Manchester before finding a new home in Italy. He said: "I only wanted Manchester United, and while it's true that I received offers from England, I knew it would be impossible for me to play anywhere else. I've spent my whole life there, it's the club that shaped me and allowed me to have a wonderful career. Football is like that, unexpected things happen. Like the opportunity to come here to Florence."

Man Utd ‘ready to slash asking price for bomb squad' with Alejandro Garnacho now available for barely £40million
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly ready to slash the asking price for their bomb squad misfits with Alejandro Garnacho available at just £40million. The Red Devils are ready to part ways with the Argentina winger and four other flops on the cheap as they look to back Ruben Amorim in the transfer market. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Man Utd want just £40m for Alejandro Garnacho as they look to raise funds for Ruben Amorim Credit: EPA United's Portuguese gaffer has already splashed £62.5m on Matheus Cunha and £71m on Bryan Mbeumo. But Amorim is hoping to sign more players, including a big-money striker such as Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson. United have so far only raised £25m this summer through sell-on clauses and Jadon Sancho's loan release from Chelsea. And the Telegraph claims they are now ready to listen to bargain offers for players not in Amorim's plans. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL OFF THE MARC Rashford BANNED from playing for Barcelona initially amid registration issues Garnacho is likely to command the biggest fee, but that won't be much more than £40m. United valued him at nearly double in January after telling suitors to cough up £70m. Chelsea are considering a move as they also enter talks with RB Leipzig for Xavi Simons. And £40m could be too good an opportunity for Todd Boehly's side to turn down. BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Sancho does not appear to have any takers for a permanent move despite entering the final year of his contract. He has refused to budge on his £250,000-a-week wages, scuppering his chances of a permanent Stamford Bridge switch. It means they will lose him for free next summer, five years after signing him for £73m, but will at least see some of his wages covered for the current season. Fellow winger Antony is also likely to depart, with Real Betis keen on a permanent move after his loan ended. However, they have so far refused to meet United's £40m asking price. And that could drop significantly to allow a transfer to go through, resulting in an even bigger hit on Antony's £85m fee. Left-back Tyrell Malacia, who cost £15m, is also out of favour after returning from his PSV loan. It's reckoned United are ready to let him leave for a nominal fee after landing replacements in Patrick Dorgu and Diego Leon. And finally, Marcus Rashford is on the brink of another loan exit, this time to Barcelona. United valued the forward at £100m just two years ago. But like former loan side Aston Villa, Barca will have the option to sign Rashford permanently for just £40m should things go well.

Yoane Wissa clear on type of player Man Utd have signed in Bryan Mbeumo – 'We have arguments'
Manchester United have completed a £71million deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, and one former team-mate has detailed the winger's more tempestuous side Those comments nod to the competitive spirit United have acquired, something that appears to have been missing at Old Trafford for some time. The Red Devils have fighting personalities in captain Bruno Fernandes, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte, but the venom that was once so synonymous with the club as a whole has long been missing. Mbeumo enjoyed a career-best return of 20 goals at the Gtech Community Stadium last season, level with Wissa as Brentford's top scorer. But it seems there's substance to back up his talent, too. Wissa added: "It was all about finding the right balance between good competition but also fighting with each other. We are also fighting with each other, but that doesn't mean you have to hate each other!" That comment in particular hints at Mbeumo's drive to not only get the best out of himself but those around him as well. And the ability to deliver that message without grating on one's team-mates can be a rare quality. Mbeumo also opened up about the kind of behaviour he feels tends to optimise his play. And it's apparent Amorim and his squad may need to give their new signing the arm-round-the-shoulder treatment, rather than tough love, should he not hit the ground running straight away at Old Trafford. "I'm someone who needs support and love to give my best performances," said the Cameroonian. "I'm really lucky to have someone like Wissa, who always wants the best for me. "I always want to give 100%, but there are some times when I'm feeling down, so having someone like him who will help and push you in the right direction is brilliant to have."
