Texas ranking revealed in USA TODAY Sports' Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll
Texas ranking revealed in USA TODAY Sports' Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll The Longhorns begin their season on February 14 at Globe Life Field against Louisville.
Texas Baseball has secured the 13th spot in the USA TODAY pre-season coaches poll. The poll, released on Monday, features Texas A&M, an in-state rival and a new conference rival, as the top No. 1 seed. Fans will recall that Longhorns Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle served as the head coach at Texas A&M during their College World Series run last spring.
Texas is ranked 13th overall and 8th in the SEC in Monday's USA TODAY poll.. The Longhorns will kick off the Jim Schlossnagle era against Louisville on February 14 at Globe Life Field, as part of the Shriners Children's College Showdown. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Globe Life Field.
Two significant differences lie ahead for the Longhorns. Firstly, a new conference brings with it new opponents. Secondly, the dugout will witness a change as David Pierce, who parted ways with Texas after the 2024 season, will be replaced by Jim Schlossnagle, one of the sport's elite coaches. Schlossnagle and his coaching staff have high expectations, particularly the goal of returning to Omaha.

The Kansas City Chiefs and their fans have moved past the disappointment of Super Bowl LIX, but NBA legend and personality Shaquille O'Neal remains still has some burning questions about the game relating to Travis Kelce.
The Kansas City Chiefs and their fans have moved past the disappointment of Super Bowl LIX, but NBA legend and personality Shaquille O'Neal remains still has some burning questions about the game relating to Travis Kelce. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs have put Super Bowl LIX in the rearview as they gear up for the 2025 season. It will certainly be a change of pace not being the lone team pursued following the end of a near three-year title reign. Advertisement But the focus now changes to finding the necessary motivation to enact revenge after their shocking defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles. They will get their chance on that exact opponent during Week 2 of the regular season. While the players and coaches have moved past that game, one individual outside the organization clearly has a bone to pick with how things went down. Joining the "New Heights" podcast, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal had to let out his frustrations with the game. O'Neal amused Travis and Jason Kelce, campaigning that the former should have seen a bigger role against the Eagles. "I have a question," the Hall of Famer asked. "How come they didn't use you a lot in the Super Bowl? I know you're [expletive] pissed. I don't wanna get you in trouble. Advertisement "I need the pieces that helped us win the first [expletive] Super Bowl, don't be trying to do new [expletive]... I don't wanna get you in trouble, but I wasn't happy about that." Frankly, no one on the Chiefs could do much of anything against Philly that night. Kelce himself finished with four receptions for 39 yards on six targets. "I tell you what, you don't have to talk, but I'm gonna talk for you," Shaq continued. "Coach, he's [expletive] 6-foot-8. Throw him the goddamn ball. Single coverage, double coverage, at the goal line. Alley-oop, that's the play you call." Kelce has already done his damage in the Super Bowl throughout his career, holding several postseason records for a tight end. That illuminates what has been a first-ballot Hall of Fame career coming to an end after this season. Advertisement The Chiefs will have one more shot to add a ring to Kelce's collection before he hangs up his cleats. But even if they fall short, Shaq and the rest of his fans should rest assured on the extraordinary career he has put together. Canes one victory short of a berth in College World Series after beating Louisville 9-6
The Miami Hurricanes (35-26) edged the Louisville Cardinals (39-22) by a final score of 9-6 in Game 2 of the NCAA Louisville Super Regional on Saturday afternoon. The victory evened the best-of-3 series at one victory apiece. The winner goes to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Reliever Carson Fischer (5-1) earned the win after giving up one run in 3 1/3 innings. Closer Brian Walters recorded the final six outs to notch his 11th save of the year. Louisville's Jack Brown (5-5) was tagged with the loss after allowing a go-ahead RBI single in the sixth. Miami struck first in the second inning. Tanner Smith drew a walk after an eight-pitch at-bat, and designated hitter Jake Kulikowski followed with a single through the right side, advancing Smith to third. Freshman Michael Torres then delivered an RBI single to left for the first run of the game. The Cardinals stormed back and answered in the third. Lucas Moore drew a walk and stole second, then Matt Klein advanced Moore to third with a groundout to first, and Zion Rose followed with a game-tying RBI single to center. On the next pitch, Eddie King Jr. launched a two-run homer to left-center, giving the Cardinals a 3-1 lead. After retiring the Hurricanes in order, Louisville added to its lead in the fourth as Jake Munroe belted a solo home run to left, pushing the Cardinals' advantage to 4-1. But Miami was able to fight back, scoring four runs in the fourth inning. Derek Williams reached on a fielding error by the shortstop and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Renzo Gonzalez. After a flyout, Kulikowski ripped an RBI single up the middle to score Williams, which cut the Louisville lead in half, 4-2. Michael Torres followed with a single to center, and Jake Ogden capped the rally with a 411-foot three-run homer to left field, putting the Hurricanes back into the driver's seat, 5-4. Ogden had a monstrous day at the plate, as the Homestead native went 3 for 5 with three RBI, including a momentum-shifting three-run homer in the fourth. Two innings later, King Jr. returned to the plate for the Cardinals and delivered a deep solo home run to tie the score 5-5. In the sixth, Dorian Gonzalez Jr. led off with a double to right and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Williams on the next at-bat. After a Louisville pitching change, Renzo Gonzalez came through with an RBI single through the left side, bringing home Gonzalez Jr. and putting Miami back into the lead, 6-5. Miami found their much-needed insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh, powered by Daniel Cuvet. Torres got the inning going with a single through the left side, and Max Galvin followed with a base hit to right, setting the stage for Cuvet. On a 1-0 pitch, the Fort Lauderdale native turned on a fastball and launched a towering three-run homer over the left-field wall — his 18th of the season. The blast ignited the Hurricanes' dugout and pushed Miami's lead to 9-5, giving Cuvet yet another big moment in a standout sophomore campaign. Louisville chipped away in the top of the eighth. Alex Alicea led off with a double down the right field line, and Lucas Moore followed with an RBI single up the middle to bring the Cardinals within three. Moore stole second and Ryan Klein drew a walk to put two on with no outs, but Miami reliever Brain Walters remained composed, including a flyout to right, a groundout to short, and a flyout to center that helped the Hurricanes escape the jam and secure the victory.
