Taberna da Praça has a new menu, a new chef and a Manteigaria Silva inside
There's a new Taberna da Praça to discover inside the Cidadela in Cascais. Originally opened in 2012, the restaurant now boasts a brand-new menu, a new head chef, and a refreshed atmosphere – not to mention the addition of a Manteigaria Silva inside, the iconic Lisbon deli once named by the Financial Times as one of the best in the world.
At the helm of the kitchen is Pedro Inglês Marques, who's joined from Pestana Palace Lisboa. The chef brings a contemporary touch to traditional Portuguese flavours. On the petiscos side, expect peixinhos da horta (€8), an indulgent oxtail croquette (€4), black pork chouriço flamed in medronho brandy (€10), and mushrooms à Bulhão Pato (€9).
For something more substantial, try the octopus à lagareiro with sweet potato from Comporta (€27), black pork secretos with cockle rice (€21), bacalhau à brás with a fresh green salad (€17), or the classic bitoque — sirloin steak with homemade chips and a fried egg (€20). Desserts stick to the Portuguese classics too, with highlights like the Joaninha de Cascais (€9), sericaia with Elvas plums (€7), drunken rocha pear (€7), and a bold 100% cocoa mousse (€7) stealing the spotlight.
Making its Cascais debut, Manteigaria Silva now brings its top-quality cheeses and cured meats to the heart of the Cidadela, available to buy inside the revamped Taberna da Praça. You can also tuck into generous boards featuring these artisanal products right there at the table. Upstairs, still quietly charming, you'll find Déjà Lu, the second-hand bookshop with plenty of stories already told – and still waiting to be read.

The Revolut founder Nik Storonsky could be rewarded with an Elon Musk-style shares jackpot worth billions of dollars if he manages to treble the valuation of the London-based digital bank. An incentive deal struck years ago is due to trigger a gigantic payout if the valuation of Revolut mushrooms from the present $45 billion to $150 billion, the Financial Times reported. With Brentford demanding at least £60m, the Red Devils are risking missing out on the winger, who's got interest from clubs with more money to spend. But that could all change with departures. United are working on a number of high-profile sales, with Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho the headliners. Rashford, 27, has found himself searching for a new club after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim just weeks into the Portuguese's reign. The England international issued a come-get-me plea to Barcelona last week, revealing that he 'hoped' to play alongside Barca wonderkid Lamine Yamal. United want £40m for Rashford, who was loaned out to Aston Villa for the second half of last season. Garnacho, meanwhile, stayed put, despite links of a £75m move to Napoli in January. Speculation over his future didn't disappear, though, in fact it ramped up after United's Europa League final defeat. The 20-year-old's brother accused Amorim of throwing Garnacho under the bus, having been benched last month's 1-0 dismal loss to Tottenham in Bilbao. It emerged shortly after that Amorim had ruthlessly told Garnacho to find a new club, with Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid - his former club - all reportedly interested. Garnacho angered United supporters via social media over the weekend, posing in a 'Rashford 9' Villa shirt while on holiday. But those two aren't the only forwards on the chopping block. The left-back is expected to have other suitors, however, as Benfica were close to signing him in January, only for the move to break down. United would be willing to listen to offers for every member of their squad, with some valued much more by Amorim than others. Players such as Leny Yoro, Bruno Fernandes and Amad are considered prized possessions while they're reluctant to sell a striker, likely Rasmus Hojlund, before bringing in a replacement, as the Red Devils continue to be linked with Viktor Gyokeres.
