We're told the Mauka to Makai Environmental Expo is the one day each year that admission to the Waikiki Aquarium is free. It's Earth Month – so they want everyone to celebrate and swing by this family-friendly event that highlights the importance of keeping Hawaii clean and free of pollution, from the mountaintops to the ocean. They have more than a dozen nonprofit, local, state, and federal organizations joining to make this a really fun and educational day with plenty of activities to keep learners of all ages engaged. Some of those organizations include Hawaii Marine Animal Response, Hawaii Audobon Society, Oahu Invasive Species Committee, Friends of Hanauma Bay, and so much more.
Organizers tell us there will be live entertainment, and more than a dozen different booths and educational exhibits that showcase ways to protect and preserve Hawaii's environment. They'll have arts and crafts, taiko drummers, a fish release, and so much more. There will be countless things to see and learn – and when attendees complete our event passport, they'll receive a free native plant as their prize.

I tested Meta Voice vs Gemini Live using 5 prompts — here's who won

Voice assistants are having a moment. Meta recently rolled out its new voice-powered Meta AI in a standalone app, while Google's Gemini Live now lets you have full back-and-forth conversations with the chatbot via Android or iOS. Both are designed to be natural, helpful and available in real time. But how do they actually stack up? To find out, I ran both Meta AI and Gemini Live through the same five real-life prompts right on my iPhone. No typing, just me talking to the bots the way I talk to a friend when I'm hungry, frazzled or in desperate need of entertainment for my kids. I judged them on speed, usefulness, follow-up ability and personality. Here's how each one performed. Prompt: 'I have chicken and spinach — what should I make for dinner?' Meta offered me a variety of options immediately, each of varying difficulty. The bot then asked me what I was in the mood for. From there, I said the pasta sounded good and it gave me the Live started with one idea only. Rather than giving me a variety of options to choose from, it asked me if I had any pasta on hand. When I said yes, but asked for something else, it offered a few Meta wins for coming up with the most ideas from the start rather than making me ask for more. Prompt: 'What's a fun and inexpensive way to celebrate the end of the school year?' Meta suggested a potluck picnic but also included a few other different activities to help me decide on the best Live also suggested a potluck and suggested 'everyone bring a dish,' which is basically the definition of a potluck. It did not elaborate on any other Meta wins for once again offering more ideas upfront rather than stopping at the first suggestion. Prompt: 'Can you give me a list of summer reading books? I'm a fan of Emily Henry.' Meta struggled with this and kept interrupting me. It kept saying 'Happy to help!' as I was talking. It suggested all of Emily Henry's books, which, as a fan of hers, I've already read. Finally, after a bit of prompting and a ton of pauses, I got a few suggestions. Gemini Live was equally bad. I told the bot I have read everything by the author Emily Henry and it immediately suggested one of her books. When prompted again, it suggested a few books by authors with a similar Meta wins by a hair. While both bots did not answer my prompt immediately, Meta at least came up with several better suggestions by the end of the conversation. Prompt: 'Can you tell me the top 5 news stories happening right now?' Meta immediately mentioned the breaking news story at the bottom of my computer screen and went into detail about it and other important news of the Live gave a brief overview of the news but didn't even mention the breaking news. It also did not dive as deep into the current news happening at the Meta wins for a more thorough and accurate dive into breaking news. Prompt: 'Tell me a joke that's appropriate for work.' Meta absolutely fell flat here. Nothing it said was funny or even a joke. One was just Live was basically an office comedian ready to give me joke after joke. They were corny, sure, but funny enough for an office Gemini Live wins for better humor and understanding the assignment. In the end, Meta Voice edged out Gemini Live, winning four out of five categories with stronger suggestions, faster follow-up and better real-time awareness. While Gemini delivered in the humor department (and still holds promise as a polished assistant backed by Google's ecosystem), it often required more prompting to get where I needed it to go. If you're looking for a voice assistant that jumps in with useful ideas without making you work for them, Meta is currently the better companion — even if its jokes could use a little work. While neither chatbot has much of a personality, they are both smart and responsive. Meta AI might be too responsive. Even if you close the app, the bot continues to talk, ready for another prompt.

Snapchat adds new features for creators, including an easier way to edit videos

As Snapchat continues to take on Instagram and TikTok, the company announced on Thursday that it's introducing a suite of new tools and features to make it easier for creators to create and share content on its platform. The social network is launching a 'Timeline Editor' feature, a new way to create videos from saved Memories, the ability to auto-save Stories to profiles, and more. Snapchat says the new Timeline Editor will give creators a more intuitive way to edit videos directly on the platform. The Timeline Editor lets you view your video in a chronological layout, so it's easy to trim, move, or rearrange clips. Once your sequence is set, you can add Lenses, add music from the Sounds library, and use other creative tools. The tool could get rid of the need for users to edit simple videos on third-party editing platforms, such as CapCut, before posting them on Snapchat. Creators will also get access to a new 'Create a Video' template that lets them select a few Memories, choose a song from Snapchat's Sounds library, and pick their favorite template to generate a custom compilation video. The feature is rolling out globally on iOS. Users will also soon be able to automatically save their public Stories directly to their profile to allow people to revisit the content. Snapchat says the feature enables creators to build a lasting collection of their best memories and keep their content alive. Of course, this feature sort of defeats the purpose of the ephemeral element behind Stories, but it could be useful for people who want to preserve their Stories. In addition, Snapchat is giving creators access to more insights into how their content is performing in order to allow them to better optimize their posts. Creators will be able to see the number of viewers who watched their public content for at least 12 days over the last month, giving them a better idea of how many returning viewers they have. They'll also be able to see which of their Spotlight posts and public Stories received the most views in the past 28 days, along with their total view time across all content. Plus, creators will get insight into their traffic sources, as they'll see views based on the source, which could include the Discover For You page, Following, Spotlight, Search, Chat, and Profile. Last, they'll see the average amount of time users spent watching their Spotlight posts, along with the average percent of their Spotlight posts that users finished watching.
