US Banker Sues Employer Over Chucky Doll Prank, Claims It Gave Her PTSD And Ruined Career

NDTV19-06-2025
A former employee of a US bank is suing her ex-employer on allegations that a manager placed a Chucky doll in her office chair despite knowing she was afraid of dolls. According to the New York Post, Debra Jones, who worked at North Carolina's Truist Bank, filed a complaint against her former company on May 21. In her complaint, she alleged that she was "subjected to discrimination and retaliation based on her being a qualified individual with disabilities". She is now seeking compensatory damages from the bank, according to the complaint filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
Debra Jones said she began her employment at Truist Bank in April 2024, the outlet reported. In her complaint, she stated that she was diagnosed with "major depressive disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, and autoimmune disorder vitiligo." She alleged that her employer knew she had those medical conditions and her fear of dolls.
In June 2024, during the last week of new hire training, Ms Jones said that her manager placed a Chucky doll in her office chair. Notably, the doll is a fictitious character from the 1988 slasher horror film 'Child's Play'.
In her complaint, she said that the manager's actions interfered with her training and worsened her medical condition. She also alleged that her manager laughed when he saw her reaction to seeing the Chucky doll.
On the same day, Ms Jones was treated by a medical provider and was placed on medical leave for eight weeks. She then received a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after the Chucky incident.
Ms Jones returned to work in August 2024 and was assigned a new manager and was allowed to leave work at 3 pm, three times a week, for treatment of her autoimmune disorder. Then, three months later, she said that the new manager made a joke in front of her and the team about her being "always fraudulent vigilant," after she discovered a fraudulent check. Ms Jones said she found the joke offensive.
In her complaint, she argued that she was being treated differently when she made mistakes, and that the different treatment was based on her disabilities. She also alleged that she was subjected to retaliation and discrimination by her new manager.
In January, Ms Jones alleged that another manager told her that her reasonable accommodation of leaving work at 3 pm was affecting the other employees who needed time off. They also told her that the job might not be a good fit for her and that she can't keep using her emotional and anxiety problems as an excuse. They also allegedly told her that she would be fired if she didn't improve.
In her complaint, Ms Jones claimed that she experienced panic attacks after meetings with the two managers and was later taken out of work for treatment of her disabilities. Then, in March 2025, she was notified by her employer to pick up her personal belongings at the office.
She argued that she experienced retaliation, discrimination and different treatment based on disabilities. She also stated that the actions of the bank have led to lost wages and caused her emotional pain and mental anguish.

2 US Carnival Cruise Passengers Drown Hours Apart At Newly Opened Luxury Resort

Two American cruise passengers, a 79-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, drowned in separate incidents at Carnival Cruise Line's newly opened Celebration Key resort on Grand Bahama Island on August 15. The incidents occurred just hours apart at the $600 million resort, which opened on July 19. According to the New York Post, the man became unresponsive while snorkelling at the beach around noon. Lifeguards quickly responded and pulled him ashore, where CPR was administered. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, the man was pronounced dead by a medical doctor shortly after. Later that day, around 2:30 PM, a second incident occurred on a separate cruise ship, where a 74-year-old woman was found unresponsive in one of the resort's freshwater lagoons and could not be revived despite CPR efforts. "The initial report suggests that the female became unresponsive while swimming in a pool," police said in a release shared on Facebook. The two victims were passengers on separate Carnival cruise ships: the Mardi Gras, which departed from Port Canaveral, Florida, and the Carnival Elation, which sailed from Jacksonville, Florida. The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating, with autopsies pending to determine the exact causes of death. Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement obtained by People, "Our lifeguards and medical team responded to two separate water emergency incidents at Celebration Key on Friday — one in the lagoon and one at the beach. Sadly, both guests have passed away. One guest was sailing with family on Mardi Gras, and one guest was sailing with family on Carnival Elation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the guests and their families, and our Care Team is providing assistance." Celebration Key is a luxurious private resort that features the world's largest freshwater lagoon, Starfish Lagoon, and an impressive 11,000-square-foot infinity pool at the Pearl Cove Beach Club. The resort also offers a range of activities, including paddleboarding, as well as various dining options to suit every taste.

Police bodycam captures arrest of boozed-up Southwest pilot before Chicago flight take-off. Watch

Newly released police bodycam footage captured the dramatic moment an allegedly intoxicated Southwest Airlines pilot was pulled from the cockpit and arrested at a Georgia airport earlier this year. A Southwest pilot was arrested after bodycam video captured him failing a sobriety test moments before takeoff in Georgia.(X/@unlimited_ls) Pilot David Paul Allsop, 52, was preparing to operate Southwest Flight 3772 from Savannah Hilton Head Airport to Chicago on January 15 when officers intervened, the ABC Chicago reported. The video shows Allsop emerging from the aircraft cabin door to face questioning from police officers who suspected he was under the influence. Police questioning and suspicion In the footage, an officer can be heard asking, 'When was the last time you had a drink?' to which Allsop replies, 'Last night,' while avoiding eye contact. When pressed further, he admitted, 'About, 10 hours ago.' Initially refusing to undergo a field sobriety test with the response, 'There's no need,' Allsop was reminded by the officer, 'Well, I can smell an odour consistent with an alcoholic beverage.' At one point, Allsop attempted to discreetly wipe his lips, causing what appeared to be a breath mint to fall from his mouth. He bent down clumsily to retrieve it before finally agreeing to take the test. Failing the sobriety test The footage shows the pilot struggling to walk in a straight line along the jet bridge, ultimately failing the field sobriety test. He was then taken into custody, charged with driving under the influence, and barred from flying that day, according to a report by New York Post. Video later showed him being escorted out of the airport in handcuffs for further questioning. Take a look here at the clip: Despite the setback, Southwest Flight 3772 was able to depart after a four-hour delay, once the airline secured a replacement pilot. Southwest Airlines issued a statement at the time, quoted by the New York Post: 'There's nothing more important to Southwest than the safety of our employees and customers.'
